Wait until the black hits, whhheweee it goes on my tri tips also. Basically everything Ribs as well, just a touch don’t want to discolor ....changed a lot for me I have to say. After my first run in with it, I went for the huge bottle.

I think I was ripping that chelada looking one on Chicken and Pork, mainly Ribs n Chops. Great move and I think you will really enjoy it.

I’m playing with the Kinders spices now as I received them for Xmas, so far I only used the “buttery steakhouse”....on chicken lmao. I can’t bring myself to putting it on a steak. I mean, I have butter and black so.

Here’s my tri tip from the other night. That’s granulated garlic, the black rub and black pepper. Olive oil after the first 2 seasonings the went pasty add the cracked black. View attachment 969708

Bought this Ozark Trail/Walmart brand for the RV. It's lighter than my home stuff and the 14" was $9.96🤑. Gave it a light sand and put it right to work. My plan is to do the exact opposite of my home stuff and just beat the shit out of this thing and see how it holds up for $10.

youll be surprised, they're actually decent pans. They are made in China (along with everything else at walmart) but they are not bad.

I think for the price difference, i'd buy a lodge, but ya.

I figured I might as well post this. My grandma passed a couple of years ago, and they are finally going through her place, cleaning things up. I swiped this old pan from there, zero markings, except for the hand stamped number 8 on the bottom.

It has some unique features, the hammered exterior finish and a nice smooth interior surface. It had a TON of carbonized food product all over it, and took me 1 full can of Easy-off (4 treatments) to break down all the shit.

I wish I took some before pics, but here’s the after.

I used this site to help identify some of my oddball pans. Pretty cool stuff. https://www.castironcollector.com/unmarked.php

If you are looking for cast iron performance without the weight pick up a carbon steel pan.

Same "rules" apply.
My buddy just bought some. He was seasoning it last night. Looked great.

I have Lodge, stanley other brands at home. The plan is to beat the shit out of this one and see what happens for $10. Funny enough it's already performing better in the non stick category compared to my babied Lodge stuff at home. If it ends up being a POS no love lost for $10

First rule on a new cast iron is to wash it in hot soapy water and then fry a pound of bacon or sausage.

Bonus points for cooking a pound of bacon and sausage. 👍

Yup! With some olive oil and garlic, and finish them off with some melted butter baste right before they come off.

Huge bummer this past week. Having dinner at friends in Havasu with the kitchen that we installed and were talking about their new appliances. They were disappointed to have a note on the documentation that you can’t use cast iron. Then I realize and dumb mofo that we have an electric range and that we will not be able to use our cast iron pans. :cussing:

So even though I LOVE how this thing cooks steaks, I was about to give up on it for cooking anything else. Everything stuck to it!

So I broke down and bought some flaxseed oil. What a huge difference. Made stir fry (habenaro, garlic, onion, red bell peppers, mushrooms, celery, chicken, salt, pepper, chili powder and cumin) tonight, after seasoning it with the flaxseed.

Cleaned up like a teflon pan when I was done. I should have listened to you guys right up front!

Some bacon for the burgers, corn on the top rack. Its not a smoker but I love the room of a six burner.

Never thought about using a lil cast iron on the bbq...will have to try that. 👍 I just usually fire up the griddle for the bacon...but then I dont have to clean up the griddle. 😁

Will have to go get me a cheapy to use for the bbq. 👍

Fyi fellas...... @ 99cents store the other day...... saw some cast irons for cheap. Prolly not the best, but might be a good pickup for camping gear or to use on the bbq at home or for just extra....

If I remember right
$5.99 8"
$9.99 10"
$12.99 12" I think
Skillets were kinda on the light/thin side, but not too bad.

I bought a set from harbor freight years ago for camping. Very porous or rough cast, and I sanded them down with a flapper wheel on the angle grinder, also from harbor freight.
Once smooth, and seasoned well, they work just fine. Still use them on the BBQ, over an open fire, and in the kitchen, both in the 5er, and the house. It would be difficult to tell the difference between Lodge, Wagner, and Harbor Freight, after all of them have been sanded.

You never know what you'll find. I have one I got on CL in a box full that's a hundred years old. Love it.

Reseasoning one as I type! I do use vegetable oil as that's what I mainly cook with. But it's on its 4th coat so far! Definitely not a one and done deal with vegetable oil. You have to do several thin coats. I bake at 500⁰ for 30min first coat the apply another thin coat 4-5 times every 15min. Then leave in the oven for cool down! Works well for me. If it comes out sticky after cooling the coats where to thick! Maybe I'll try flaxseed next time.. not sure though as vegetable oil has a higher smoke point. And that's all my mom and grandma ever used! They should be dry to the touch, no oily residue once they cool down!

5th coat done.. ready for the cooling process!

This pan could actually use to be sanded a bit but I like it for frying as it let's the oils and butter flow under the meat!

Picked up a nice 12" skillet at a garage sale for $10 this morning...looking forward to giving it some use 👍🏻
That ain't garage sale pricing....unless it's like a 200 dolla skillet. 😂😉
