The trim motor for my cavitation plates just clicks and I can’t seem to find a loose ground? Any ideas if I need to replace the motor? Or where to find one?

Its a little hard to see the actual configuration of your actuator without some more pics, but Progressive Automations has a pretty complete line of linear actuators that can satisfy most applications.

This is the unit I bought for my Schiada restoration.

I think my actuator might be good. When I got my boat it had dual 12v batteries but one wasn’t hooked up for some reason, maybe the previous owner disconnected it, I don’t know.

I’m starting to think if I wire them in series to get 24v then it might work. Because this actuator says 20v on it.

I’m going to try that and see what happens

I got it to go down but it won’t go up and now it’s all the way down.

I don't know if this helps. That's from a airplane, Lear manufacture, maybe for ailerons or?

I did figure out that it’s from an airplane and Lear made parts for planes. But I can’t seem to find much info about Lear or if these are still being made. I was hoping to find the same one that I have to make it easy to install and not have to change the mounting bracket.

Maybe try running power and ground wires strait to the unit from a known good battery to make sure the unit is bad you might have bad connection, bad ground or the contact in the switch might be going bad it almost sounds like your circuit can't cary the load it needs .

Can you get better model number pics? Maybe start calling airplane repair shops to get fixed or bone yards. They do have new ones, but not like that exact for flaps. I did a quick search and didn't find anything.

Call Duff-Norton and tell them what you have. They should have a replacement. If they don’t sell direct call Fastenal or Grainger and order from them.

You were onto something when you noted the 20v requirement. That's what the second battery was for. If you get second one exactly like that one, it's still going to want 20v or the second battery hooked up in series to run it. I couldnt read the Amp rating, but make sure youve got good switch connections. If it was 35amps, like I thought I saw, youre talking about 700 watts. That wants some decent sized wire and good connections. Ive seen a bad wire crimp set fire to the insulation on wire. Bad crimps/corrosion causes resistance. Resistance causes heat. Not to mention low voltage and current delivery to the load.

I recently found a bad crimp on an ignition wire that had 16v delivered to it, and only 9v coming off. HEI's hate low voltage.

Thanks for all the information, I was able to find the same actuator from an aircraft supply store called Lee Air Inc. My old actuator was bad, I took it apart and the bearings were all rusted.
