They have definitely slowed down, and Bun E. Carlos is gone, but they still put on a great show. I collected a handful of Nielsen picks over the years. I will see them every chance I get!One of them??????????

Saw Cheap Trick New Years eve '79 and it was a great show. Betting a 2024 show in the heat at Blue Water won't compare, But tickets were probably $5.

Great album, in fact the only Cheap Trick album I liked. Rarely a cover of a classic song like 'Ain't that a shame' is as good of better as the original. Theirs's is for sure.
… Saw them about 1980 at whatever that big place in Long Beach is… maybe the Long Beach Memorial auditorium???… Friend of mine John Moon Martin opened for them… their manager Ken Adamany was a longtime friend of John Martin’s… Moon got us four guest passes… Lived aboard about 5 miles away in the LA Harbor
I remember Columbia House too. And I remember listening to them on 8-track. Later I graduated to vinyl on an old plastic Gerard turntable that I found in the trash and somehow I bought the correct cartridge/needle at Licorice Pizza and got it working.

I lost my record collection, when my Mom grabbed my brother and I in the middle of the night and we left her abusive husband. We had 5 minutes to take what we could carry, it still bugs me to this day, that I lost that collection. I tried to get it from the bastard for years, he would not give it up. I was really into music as a kid and had some pretty good albums that would be worth some money today. I always enjoyed the experience of going to the record stores and digging through the albums, reading the liner notes and trying to find unique stuff. Having grown up in a rural area of SoCa, a trip to Tower Records was like going to a national park. Angie's parents have two Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers albums with zipper album sleeve, one is un-opened. Not sure where those are at, but I bet that might be worth something to the right person.

That's where we saw Buzzcocks! Trippy but super cool venue out in the middle of BFE. The Pretenders played there last year.

… Moon was a very good friend… At one time he lived across an easement from me in La Tuna Canyon…And would bring over his latest finished recording…Was never involved in any of his solo production… I think it was his first solo album… Escape From Domination…That was the first one he brought over… The title came from him being raised by a wealthy, but very domineering father… And that album was his deal…escaping from his father‘s domination…

It was several decades after that Southwinds album came out before I was even aware Moon recorded that far back. It was a nice surprise. I actually think they might have recorded before this album? … On the Southwinds Ready To Ride album… It wasn’t exactly the way I thought the production should be done…But it did OK…sold about 250,000 copies…
… Was in the studio with them for about 90% of that production…
… They probably could’ve hit it really big if they wouldn’t have run the band as a democracy… kept telling them to do a concept album instead of letting each band member take a turn at songwriting and production

… The Southwind actually formed at the University of Oklahoma… I’m going to guess probably Late 1963 or early 1964
… But at that time they were not known as the Southwind… They were known as the Deciples… They were hugely popular on the college circuit… Jim Pulte had a most amazing singing voice…
… Jim Pulte had a degree in sociology… I believe… Erik Dalton had degrees in psychology, sociology, and something else. I can’t remember what it was…
… I’m not too sure what Phil Hopes major was… But John Martin became two credits shy of a degree in pharmacology or whatever you call it when somebody is studying to be a pharmacist… These guys were no dummies…
… Probably early 1967 they made the trek west to the music scene in Los Angeles… And somehow hooked up with a black soul record label…Venture Records… that was headed by Mickey… Now I can’t remember his last name, …I may even have his first name wrong…but he had been one of the big boys at Motown…
… and knew the band from their college days… This was sometime after they had met Ken Adamanny, who later became the manager of Cheap Trick…
… After their trek west, it suddenly dawned on them that the Desciples was not a great name for a country rock band… So they came up with the name, Southwind…
… They were hooked up with a producer, Douglas, Fontaine Brown… Who did a really good job of producing their first album simply entitled …Southwind…
…The Southwind played a lot at a small beer bar called the Piier 7 in Van Nuys, California… Which is where I met them…
… Doug Brown would occasionally sit in with them and take over keyboards… I saw the writing on the wall as Doug Brown was a powerhouse, instrumentally and vocally, and I could see that Phil Hope was most likely going to leave the band and Doug Brown would take over his spot… on keyboards…Which is exactly how it happened…
… So your thought of maybe John Martin had recorded in the 60s is absolutely correct…
… On to Gram Parsons… I can’t remember if Gram Parsons’s first band was the International Submarine Band or not…But the submarine band was actually very good…. They had been produced by a friend of mine to this day Suzi Jane Hokom…
… There was a club in the late 60s called Mr. Benjamin’s… That was in a small strip mall on Sepulveda Boulevard in Sherman Oaks. I think…. Some great music past through that place… Eric Burdon and War … Pretty sure Deep Purple played there… Blood Sweat and Tears… And more… Southwind was sort of the house band… So I was there quite a bit… One night, a very country band opened for the Southwind and I cannot remember for sure if by that time they were calling themselves The Flying Burrito Brothers… They were simply amazing. Gram Parsons sang like an angel… A friend of mine who was doing the sound for the Southwind recorded some of the Burrito Brothers first sets on cassette… Which he had kept in storage until a flood went right through his garage and the cassettes were destroyed… May have been some of Gram Parsons best ever live recordings… Kind of a shame…
… Quite a bit after Gram Parsons death… I was sitting around Suzy Jane Hokom’s house one day and a couple of guys came over and one of them and I forget his name..: or possibly both of them were the guys who stole Gram Parsons body from International Airport and took it out to the desert as per his wishes …they took his body out to Joshua Tree and lit it on fire…there was a pact amongst these guys that when one died, they would be torched at Joshua Tree… I can’t really remember, but I think one of these guys went to jail for a little little bit over this… The story had so much notoriety that a feature film was made out of it… Grand Theft Parsons…
