Here's a less expensive alternative on the $5000 mercury CNC prop that puts an extra 8-10 mph on the new Mercury 300R V8 outboard. First of all, I have never bought a Hill Propeller in my entire life. I've never heard of any big numbers from their props.
Mike Hill called me a couple weeks ago and asked if I'd be willing to test a new prop they just developed to run on the new 300R motors. I said sure, why not. I also told him that I would post all the results, positive or negative.
Chad Hill sent me two 34" x !5.5" 5 blade over the hub cleavers to try on a 21 Liberator cat. One had 15 degree rake and the other was 20 degree. There was 15-20 mph winds and I was on my little 1.25 mile long test lake, so conditions were not ideal. Let me start out by saying the 20 degree sucked. Ran 99 and had to trim down to keep it off the limiter. Only ran 48 at 4000 rpm. Now on the other hand, The 15 degree prop was incredible. I ran it and the Mercury CNC back to back. The Mercury was faster by 4 100ths of a mph!! Both ran 111.10 mph on gps. You can see in the last pic that the trim was minimal.
Now the price! Mercury's prop is $5000-$5500. This prop is $2380. I will be selling them for $2150 to your door. Cheapest 8-10 mph you'll ever see.

I would like this...however, I just ponied up big loot for the Merc cleaver. So....I dont like this. I do like the 5 Blade Hill I still have. Great running prop for VERY reasonable price.

I was expecting it to be slower than the CNC, but it was not.

i am REALLY confused and have dealt with Chad/Ron/Hill/Bronson for decades ussing there props...they are ALL from SoCal area, that i know.Mike Mandazzi is a well known and respected outboard/COR/Enduro racer, that is a givin.I belive Mike starts a propeller company Buckshot recently and advertises on FB under name Mike Hill? Most peeps seem to like his props, except a VERY well known guru in Florida (wont mention names) that has run numerous 138mph passes in his STV with a 2.5 hiperf 2 stroke in his sleep with full size shiftable gearcase!!Maybey someone can come along and enlighten me on who is who..LOL

Mike called me about the props. He then talked to Chad and had Chad call me since I've been setting up alot of 300R motors. Mike uses the name Hill as his race name but is not related to any of the Hills. His real last name is Mandazzi. Chad is Ron Hills son and now running things. He builds Mikes props since Hill has their own foundry. They cast the props for alot of different prop companys.

thanks Randy, that clears up alot.I am also thinking back in early 80s (i am old fart) Bronson/Ron Hill were affiliated then separated into two diff companys?I know Buckshot (Mike) has done lots of research and hard work and my hat is off to him.I almost bought one of his props to run 120+ when i heard the bad news from Florida that they didnt work very well on rigs (stv mirage) with 2.5 s3000..on other hand seems like everyone with 3.2 liters (bigblocks) loves the Buckshot. At my age, I probably should stay away from those shootout speeds anyway..BTW,i here there is a fairly new outfit called Cutting Edge that is in same county as Buckshot/Hill and hearing good reviews about there props

I spoke to Agustin from Cutting Edge on tuesday. Sounds like they are gearing up to produce some props for these new motors as well. I may get my hands on a 15.5 x 34 here in a few weeks. He apparently was affiliated with Herring in the past.

He goes by Mike Hill on Facebook and calls the Brand Buckshot that he is selling,i would think the Hill's are involved?
I spoke to Ron Hill a few weeks ago about these props and he knew Randy was getting a set sent to him. Hill Marine are producing them. They came in the same boxes that my Hill 32p SL5 came in.

Hi Randy,

If I am correct Hills will offer a 5 bl 26 pitch cleaver late spring. is this correct. If so, is it possible to choose between 15/20 degree too?

Thanks !

no hub. slides right on the 1.25" 19 spline prop shaft. Same as the Merc cleaver.

I have a couple of Merc CNC cleavers used on my twin 400 28 Speedster.

they have some dings and I have thought about sending to mercury racing for cleanup. Expect this is fairly pricey just based upon the original cost. Do you have any opinions on how well these would turn using this “Mandozi” guy rather than mercury

I sell them for $2150 to your door. Same price as the cleavers. May be going up later this year I'm told. Do you need 450's? or do you have it covered.

Randy, I have been wanting to go 5 blade over hub on my Daytona 22 with twin 300xs on it, you built a few similar liberators with twin 300xs, what was the best prop for those hulls? I called DeWald and they are $4000 a pair. I have always used Hill when I raced, they always took good care of me.

Have 450 motors already. List price on signature 500 cleavers is 400 more. Are we talking about same prop?
