I have never pulled an engine before, but I believe the easiest way is to disconnect universal joint and slide the engine forward, then up and out. How far forward does a 460 need to move forward to get it free?

I am in the process of replacing my floor in my '79 Eliminator and do not have the time to pull the engine this year. The previous floor was a patchwork of decking which contributed to the rot, so I am replacing it as one piece around the engine. I have no idea how close I can run the floor to the front of the engine, but want to avoid issues of pulling the engine in the future.

Any advice is appreciated.

Minimum would be like 2.5" in front of the lower pulley.

Mine is closer to 4.5 to 5". Had 460 and Berkeley originally, now has 454.

Thanks for the info. I have a 21' day cruiser, too. Love the boat and cannot wait to get it back on the water.
