Every year we have a big party at our shop for the Holidays. We get the guys a hotel room close to the shop, have it catered, have employee wives, vendors etc.. Well, this year is canceled due to COVID. We were going to just have a luncheon here at the the shop for just the guys but most live in I.E. and leaving South OC and fighting the 91 sounds horrible to a lot of them. Tried calling a few places in Dos Lagos/Corona area and nobody will take a party of around 35 guys.... What is everybody else doing this year for Company Holiday event?

Bosses house works.... but I gotta say it might just be better/ safer for all involved to send restaurant gift certificates. We all have varied opinions and beliefs on catching covid. Why risk it ... its just one season.

I heard that Funerals have a higher amount of allowed participants. Call it a Funeral and book it wherever.

Personally, we're having a funeral for our turkey on Thanksgiving, so Cali can go screw itself on the amount of people allowed at a holiday event.

We are sending out a gift card to each employee for a nice dinner (whenever restaurants can open) then I took the balance of the budget and invested in some new equipment/tools for the shop.

Giving all my team members a gift card as normal and at my wife's bakery we are giving cash bonuses. What we usually spend on a holiday party for staff is getting divided amongst the staff and delivered Dec 20th

We were just discussing this at lunch today. I want to say F it, and have the event, if people are worried, don't come. Others don't share my attitude.
Its been a tough decision, I had the same thinking... but a bunch of friends that own businesses said I was crazy for still having it, that got my thinking. I dont want to be the guy that has a party, somebody comes with it, 10 people leave with it, and it spreads from there through all of their families at the holidays. Dont want to deal with the fall out, you know somebody will point the finger right at me...

This sounds like a good solid plan. The empl. get some individual appreciation and the co. Gets better T&E to help make their jobs easier, more efficient and hopefully more profitable for the Co.
Wins for everyone involved.

80% of our guys are one project in Norco right now. We are thinking just do a luncheon on the job. Maybe get a taco guy, pizzas... I dont know. The whole thing sucks, the party has always been a great way to end the year, and god knows this year needs to END!!

Look at it this way, if one person brings it and it affects your whole crew the next three to four weeks of your business are going to be severely impacted as a lot of them will need to be off for quarantine. Treat it like the military does in times of crisis, don't put all of your department heads under the same roof at the same time.

Writing checks, easier, and the employees prefer it. Divide up what you were gonna spend on everything into your FTE and hand it out, everybody wins.

Think we are just gonna do a lunch taco catering deal. We usually do a nice dinner with everyone’s significant others and give them their bonus but this year is different due to covid.

My number one gal gets 10% of our annual revenue growth as a bonus, everyone else gets a fixed amount. Parties are costly, somebody always does something inappropriate and they are a huge liability even before Covid.

Nice.....A catered "tail gate/safety meeting" conveniently timed at the EOY.

We do a half day on Christmas Eve then everyone comes into the yard and we do carne and pollo, bonuses and raffle a bunch of stuff. Usually from 12-2. Alcohol is not condoned but some may sneak it.

Since it's Az. I'm pretty sure we will do the same thing this year. Need some people to serve it this year, pretty sure buffet is out.

We were scheduled for our Xmas Pechanga Party as we did last year. Cancelled about a month ago. We will do a low key staff lunch instead.

Room has been booked for Fleming's private room. Not looking good for inside dining, hopeful things change in 5 weeks.

If cancelled might have move the party to the house. Its about 20 people.

Will see.

We usually have a big event, but this year we aren't doing anything. I'm hoping they give us a day off or half-day, but we won't know what's going on until next month.

I've still got a job and we are doing well, that's all that matters. :)

As a field employee my wife and i enjoyed our Christmas party last year . To be honest after the year were having i am just happy to have a job and a paycheck . If the money is kept in the buisness to keep me working i will apreciate it more then a party .

IMO, Figure out the (Actual) amount you were willing to spend HOSTING this party ... Dinner, Hotel, drinks, gifts etc...
divide by the actual employees.... provide a Gift card in that amount ... list the gift card as CHRISTMAS PARTY....
Ps, do not readjust their Bonus to off set this amount... you were planning to spend this......

A nice thing I’ve seen companies give their employees is a Coupon for a day off with pay!

get a taco truck or a burger barn on wheels and do lunch at the job

..... Or if you're fortunate enough to work/own a baller company in SoCal you could book on one of the Newport Harbor Tour Boats... Looks like Trump supporters are still going strong today so appears the cruise yachts are open for biz... this ones packed.

I thought they were still limiting the amount of people. Guess not.

Duffy rentals are, think no more than 6.
