Getting ready to start on our house and trying to work in some last minute changes. As things progressed we ended up with this ridiculously large shower. What I would like to do is put a tub in the shower, which based on a quick google search is actually a thing these days.

I like the free standing tubs but worry about cleaning around them in this tight space/wet environment. (pic 1)

The tub with built in surround is ok, seems by far to be the most practical. Or do I just go with a standard freestanding tub? (pic 2&3)

I really want to go with a semi flush mount drop in tub. Seems to be the most practical, cleanest option. My only concern would be safety and plumbing. This is slab on grade. How do I handle this single device that sits so much deeper than the rest? The sewer lateral is super deep so I have the depth but does this make my entire sewer plumbing super deep? or a dedicated line? (pic 4)

Shower layout the 6' wall can be pushed out on the right to make any width I need. (pic 5)

I am also 6'2" and would like to be able to fully immerse myself in the tub once a year when I use the thing.

Is there a model to look at or is this a 1 off build?

Almost all the pics you posted show a long shower ( like a Hallway ) w the tub at the far end

your floor plan is slightly different

your shower is 48 sf a tub will be take a minimum of about 12 sf ( maybe more depending on design ) that is shrinking the shower (considering a lot of the sf is access (walk into the actual shower valves and sprayer )

so I think the thing would be to locate where the tub would be placed and then figure what type….

Green - glass - pony wall around tub area full height other side of opening
yellow - full height tile
purple - open
blue - relo seat

one thing to keep in mind are niche should be hidden not seen …. on a back side wall that can’t be seen

Dang I wish we had this conversation when you were here. Plan was to put the tub at the far end like the blue rectangle. And place the shower head on the right hand wall. All walls currently full height but that can change.

I like having it near the entrance as shown but don’t think we quite have the space. I’ll post a larger shot of the plans.

Really appreciate the help! Thank you

We have a couple of these in production now. Not the biggest fan of these designs, once I mount the tubs I will update with pictures. Prep is key, shower pan base needs to be built differently prior to hotmop. Takes coordination with plumber, hotmop and framer. Picture of hotmop area with platform for tub.

We have a large walk in shower too. We opted not to do the tub inside because my wife does use it and didn’t want to feel like she was enclosed. If you’re after the “steam” effect, then do It. My shower is 12x5. The tub sits on the other side of The wall on the left. It’s a freestanding soaker tub that I even fit in at 6’3.

As far as cleaning goes, install a hose bib and use one of those pocket hoses. Works awesome and is really quick.
