John Harvey Kellogg invented Cornflakes in 1878 in the hope that plain food would stop people masturbating. Mr Kellogg, the man who created Corn Flakes, produced the cereal in the late 19th century and marketed it as a “healthy, ready-to-eat anti-masturbatory morning meal”.

According to fact-check website Snopes, however: "The phrase was never used by Kellogg, nor was it ever used to promote or advertise corn flakes."
In fact, early advertisments from the 1900s promote the cereals as "nutritious and healthful" while telling consumers of their benefits to the digestive system.

Who invented Corn Flakes?
J.H. Kellogg, the founder of the eponymous cereal manufacturer, developed Corn Flakes to provide nourishment to patients at the Kellogg sanitarium in Michigan.
As a devout Seventh Day Adventist, Kellogg believed in strict abstention from almost all forms of sexual activity or contact, even among married, heterosexual couples.

In an 1887 book, Kellogg described masturbation as "self-pollution" and called it "the most dangerous of all sexual abuses".
Kellogg cited several vices as the causes of masturbation including the consumption of "exciting and irritating food".
The doctor-entrepreneur advocated "the most simple, pure and unstimulating diet" as a means to preventing oneself from masturbating.

Believe it or not ...

"His other big contribution to the anaphrodisiac movement? When he was running the Battle Creek Sanitarium he made sure people were constantly getting yogurt enemas. Seems like a good, logical dude."

I'm really thinking the yogurt enema would do a lot to curb my masturbation schedule:p

Sounds like a great movie for me to rent for valentine's day

In Wellville, at Battle Creek, eccentric rich Dr. John Harvey Kellogg (Sir Anthony Hopkins) runs a stylish health farm for the wealthy, an idea ahead of its time, based on extreme vegetarianism, neither sex, masturbation, nor even sensual stimulation, but laughing therapy and purging the "polluted" body, mainly by exercises, often in open air, vicious diet, his invention corn flakes, laxatives, anal yogurt cure, enemas, and brutal mechanical cleansing. Eleanor Lightbody (Bridget Fonda) drags her sickly, incredulous husband William (Matthew Broderick) along to the therapy. The couple is almost immediately separated and getting horny for more available members of the opposite sex. Kellogg's stubbornly willful adopted son (amongst over thirty kids) George (Dana Carvey) is a filthy embarrassment, paid off just to stay away. Charles Ossining (John Cusack) panics when arriving in Battle Creek. He finds his aunt's fortune made him partner in the empty shell health food company "Per-fo", not the planned cornflakes factory. However, with a former Wellville employee and George's name, they hope to get rich from their own cornflakes brand. When an electric therapy goes fatally wrong and several other patients die, Will's incredulous reluctance turns to panic.

You shoudn't believe everything you read on the internet (especially snopes). The fact is the John Kelloggs brother, William Kellogg is the one who developed Corn Flakes and later established the Kelloggs cereal company.

Kellogg also pushed circumcision to punish boy caught masturbating.

Here’s what he advocated:

A remedy which is almost always successful in small boys is circumcision, especially when there is any degree of phimosis. The operation should be performed by a surgeon without administering an anesthetic, as the brief pain attending the operation will have a salutary effect upon the mind, especially if it be connected with the idea of punishment, as it may well be in some cases. The soreness which continues for several weeks interrupts the practice, and if it had not previously become too firmly fixed, it may be forgotten and not resumed.
