RDP is a bunch of doers, makers and fixers. Since we are sorta hamstrung on the doing, what are you all making and fixing?

I'm making an electric guitar with my 13 year old. He wants to do a Manchester United themed ax. Its currently sanded, sealed and primed. Need to run a couple more seal coats to flatten the grain, then we'll paint.

Lets see what ya got going.

Waiting on 3/16 alignment rods (music wire) to complete the first wing. Ribs are tacked in place on main spar, but don’t want to attach leading and trailing edges without it being jigged. Am going to work on fuselage today.

Built a bench and setup a gym in our garage.

It’s amazing what you can come up with using common items...sawhorses for dips, ladders/pipe for wide grip pull-ups And vertical pushups, 5-gallon buckets of water as makeshift dumbbells.

And resistance bands work great in a pinch.

That is great. My stepfather grew up making balsa wood planes. I was into models when he came into our family. In the late 70s he built a plane. It intergued me and he bought Me a kit that I recall was about a 48” wing span. I Did not have the same skill set as he. The wings had more curves then the last 2x4s left of a Home Depot pallet. LOL. Had it hung up in my room for about 3-4 years and then when we moved out it was flown off the roof of my childhood home in ablaze of glory. Thanis for bringing up my childhood memories!!!!

Messing with the Rzr Turbo S in the shop, waiting for Saturday UPS to bring some loom and stuff to get some prework done on wiring. Trying to decide if I want to build an old school light rack with round lights or succumb to the light bar trend. Momma does not like the old school style idea. I do.
Looking at the Baja Designs XL Pro lighting if I do it my way, will go something less $ if she wins.
Plotting which free spin kit to put on the Dodge. Looks like the Yukon gear option is in the lead now.
Also working up the courage to go up in the loft and begin hucking a bunch of crap.
Going out every day to hose a damn bird nest off the back of the shop. Last year the bastards cost me 600 in siding etc to fix after the season.
Wife wouldn't let me....make it go away... while they were using it last spring
This year I am going to keep it from ever getting built. Got some things to screw up there when I my kid can get up there on a big ladder to install them.
Damn things.
Watching the damn grass get taller and taller here and at the other house I am responsible for. When the bloody rain stops it will take me 4 days to mow and weed eat everything, and 3 days later it will be time to start over. Wipes my back out. I hate spring. I can't wait to get the hell outta here.
Quiet at the end of the road where FBT World Headquarters is located.

I'm not working as hard as the rest of you.
I have some of those solar tiki torches around my patio.
I wanted them a little taller than you can get with the parts provided.
So with a little 1/2 PVC and connectors, some paint, and a steel construction stake, I made them taller.

Under those hammers is 2 halves of a solid fuselage. Ringmasters typically have a 1/2” solid balsa fuselage. This particular kit came with 2 ea. 1/4” thick “sides”. The challenge is to glue the halves together with the intricacies of things like wing cutouts, stabilizer surface, and motor mount area lined up perfect...or as close as possible. Warpage and variation in balsa sheets doesn’t always cooperate.

So after test fitting and mock up, I used slow drying balsa cement (instead of CA glue) between the halves. The entire build and blueprint is on a 1” thick blue sheet of dense insulation styrofoam, so after coating the mating surfaces I started aligning at the tail end and straight pinned the halves together into the styrofoam working my way forward.
After it was all pinned in place nice and straight I applied slight hand pressure to make sure the sides were mated then laid the hammers on to hold everything flat.
A few drops of CA glue around the edge to lock it down and let er dry!
Tomorrow we’ll engineer a suspended bellcrank assembly but won’t install it yet.

The main supplier of parts for this crap has suspended all shipments because of the virus, so I’ll be engineering a lot of the little pieces that you normally just order for $5 or so.

Decided to tear the trans outta the truck and reseal the oil pan/rear main seal that’s been slowly leaking worse for the last couple years. Trans going back in today. Most other projects on the list require money, and I’d rather not spend much money right now.

Here’s one I did with my other son, it’s a ramp for high jump and long jump ( meant to give the athlete more air time to work on form) there are usually 500 bucks. We did it for 75 bucks. Did it the day schools closed a few weeks back.

We kerfed the 1/2” ply so it would mold to the rails made of 2x8. We then ran 1x1s across, and then finally a section of kerfed 1/2” to box iit in. Glued it a bit and then attached the rubberized floor mat on the deck.

Finally got the suspended bellcrank in.
Had to wait for my brass eyelets to show up so I could drill and Bush the bellcrank ends.
I don’t like using them without bushing the wire holes.

Wing is finished other than covering and putting in line guides at the wingtip.

so my son says “dad, I want a Jamaican flag on the front and a Rasta fade on the back” uh, ok. Cuz that’s what every white 13 year old soccer player wants on his guitar. It’s a bit of a PiTA with 4 colors after the primer coat and a bunch of masking. A little more complex then the Man U design he previously wanted. Oh well.

It’s at this point I always question what it’s going to end up looking like. I’ll finish the Rasta on the back tomorrow and then try to figure out what to do with the sides. Then I’ll spend a few hours finish color sanding and then apply the relic treatment. Finally, I’ll clear coat with 3 or four layers.

not sure what I’ll do with the headstock, I’ll surf the web for ideas tonight and cut it tomorrow and start finishing that.

might go with a black pick guard, or thestandard white.

should be done by Sunday.

Took the drive shaft out of the RV to replace hanger support bearing. Four pieces taking out to then find out I can't get the joints out because I don't have a big enough socket. Will check with Robinson's to see if he can do that part for me.

My back hurts lol. Hoping to finish the seat this week. Just gotta set up a few lights. The goal is to see the fire from space [emoji41]🤣

And plant some big hedges to get some privacy.

I'm curious to see what you're going to do with the pvc pullbox in the middle of the fire ring [emoji848] --- cool project, thanks for sharing [emoji106]

So originally I ran a 1” conduit just for the hell of it to the center of the fire pit. Then figured out I wanted to add power and lights in the block.

I need to add a photo of the fire pit but it has an inner diameter of 44” and a height of roughly 20” once finished. The idea is I am going to build a “false floor” above the pull box roughly 12”. Then set the glass/fire ring.

False floor will be a pre poured concrete circle sitting on blocks/spacers. Technically that pull box will be accessible lol.

The 4 1/2” conduits feed 2, 2 gang masonry boxes on the back side. Plan is to have a dedicated 120 circuit that feeds receptacles on each end of the seating (2 more additional masonry boxes).

I’m going to wire the LED step lights (not installed/roughed in yet) via a dimmer/transformer unit. Not sure if you’ve seen those but they are a 60w 120 to 12v unit. It’s all over kill and I could run 4 dedicated circuits if I wanted to lol.

First ones pretty much done.
42” span, waiting on engine and tank, landing gear, plus a couple little pieces of control hardware, as well as some vintage Ringmaster decals.
This model is a repop of a vintage ‘50’s S1 Sterling Ringmaster. I have another S1 kit from Vintage Performance that’s a Matt Kania design based on the S1. It has a straight trailing edge as compared to this designs tapered trailing edge. Both planes are 42” span (by rules) and use .25- .35 engines. I have a new Brodak .25 and a new Brodak .40 on the way. My plan is fly both big planes with the small motor and see which one fly’s “better”, then stick the .40 on it with 70’ wires and let er rip!

Started the little “Baby Ringmaster” yesterday. It’s a 24” covered wing 1/2A model, .049 power.
I’ll finish and fly it first, sort of get back in practice before destroying the big one.

F0CA9B2A-F8F0-44B1-A5F8-6D9BE99AC240.jpeg

Edit: Just ordered the engine for the baby.
Cox “venom II” .049.
Turns a 5” prop at 20,000 RPM on 25% nitro! Lol
It’s got an 8cc stunt tank so it’s gonna be a real ripper!!

Cut the headstock, trying to make it look like a knife handle. We’ll see how it looks with paint.

This weeks project. I had this one piece of concrete that was cracked. Broken. Lifting up in the corners. Busted it out and filled it back in.

My month long project. Started with the facia board rotting out. So I pulled it off. Cut out all the rot behind it. Replaced it. Then I decided to paint the house a different color. Lol. So I’m about half way done. I needed scaffolding for the patio. And I’ll spray the tile a dark grey when I’m done. But I’m doing the stucco by hand. I even painted the window frames. This is a huge project for one guy.

They always say "the best plan is no plan" when moving dirt and having a 150 yards delivered and 40 yards of 3" rock. Started out as drainage control. Now full remodel. May dig a pool while at it. It's time to get a solid plan once I finish clearing lot. That is my workshop shown in picture.
