I get this guy thats texting and calling me for 4 days. Wants to buy my kids 50cc Kawasaki Quad. Its 2007. Great shape. Runs great. Thing is like new.

Guy comes over today. I fire it up. He rides it around my cul de sac. Says he has one, and he likes to buy them to give to kids in Mexico? Hell if I know. Whatever. Guy was white. Had his kid with him. Anyways, we exchange cash. 1200$. He is happy. I give him spare jets and spark plug. Whatever. Done this hundreds of times. Done deal so I thought.

45 mins later, i get texts and calls like blowing me up. Im on a confernce call so cant answer. Finally call him back. He is stating he got scammed , this quads junk, Wont run yadda yadda. Im like “you drove it man”. Wtf?

Guys texts me an hour later, “oh I got it running. Sorry to bug you. Battery has a bad cell. I always assume the worse”

I text back “ I read you texts finally and heard your vociemail bro, first time I been accused a scammer. Good to hear and good luck.”

Blocked his number after that. I used a burner number so thats easy.

Wtf is wrong with people. Anyone been thru this before?

Things Im going to do in the future.

1: not sell anything from my house again.
2: put the title address as a po box instead of my house.

Fuck these people. For all I know he wanted a spare part from my bike and wanted to bring it back after swapping. No thanks bro. “As-is “my friend.

I have a PO Box for exactly this reason. Nothing, not even my license or bills, go to my house. I usually meet everyone at a grocery store near my home but if I have any doubt or bad feelings I set the meeting for the parking lot of the local P.D.

I have a crazy craigslist story.....

Back in 2008, gas prices were sky-high and I was driving 200 miles a day. I bought a cheap economy car to drive for a year while I had to make the commute. I bought the car from a guy in his 20's in burbank, he said it was him mothers car and she had gotten a new one. It was a great car, yadda yadda yadda. $2000 changed hands and it was all mine. Nice little car, except for the dent in the decklid.

Drove the car for 18 months, in that course of time I discovered that the AC leaked and had to be recharged every 6-8 weeks, clutch slave cylinder leaked, and the guy had actually unplugged the check-engine light in the cluster - found this out because it failed smog. Other than that it ran well. Me being me, I fixed all that crap and it ended up being a solid little commuter car.

Fast forward to 2010 - I throw the car on craigslist for a quick sale. First guy calls and says "ill take it, my buddy is going to come give me a ride to pick it up". So im sitting in the living room 2 hours later, and I see a car pull up out front. That must be the guy i think to myself. I walk out front to greet the guy, and he looks pissed off. He walks around the front of the car, walks towards the back, and goes right for the dent in the decklid - which i told him it had. He runs his hand over the dent, then goes and looks at the licence plate. I ask him "so, what do you think?". He looks at me, throws his soda on the ground and screams "I SOLD YOU THIS FUCKING CAR!" FUCK ! ! !" - It was at that moment I realized that this dude was the guy who sold me the car, and it looked like he spent the money on meth! He threw a fit in the driveway, yelling about how he came all this way and wasted gas, and this car was his old car and it's a piece of shit. I escorted him off my driveway by force and told him to go fuck himself, and assured him that I fixed all his fucked up shit and he should have bought it.

Crazy! What are the chances?

Guy pulls up in BMW M3 to buy some used tools I had , buys all the tools , loads them in his car , then tells me he has no gas to get to gas station . Could I fill his tank here or go to gas station and get him gas ... I said No and walked in house ...weird .

I bought a 50 from a buddy of mine a few years ago. Never worried about registering it or some other trailers as I just don't have time for DMV. I registed it last week and it was $170 for a $300 bike. I love California!

Used to do PO Box with bill and driver’s license. With the new gold star DL you have to use your actual address. They will not let you use the P.O. Box. I am annoyed. Now someone can steel my wallet and know exactly where I live and possibly rob us. Just like steeling a car nd having the address and garage remote to rob.

I have alwaus used the physical address of the post office itself (All post offices have addresses) and listed # xxxx like an apartment's address. I also have friends who have rented UPS boxes and do the same. Never had a problem.

I never had an issue until the Feds changed to the new IDs with the gold stars

If it's too big, set the meet spot, go meet them, check them out and have them follow you to where it is.

I've had to do that a few times and on your bill of sale AS-IS usually stops all BS, of course I don't lie or sell POS stuff unless it's disclosed.

Craiglist, offer up, let go all suck. Tried to buy a golf cart in the 2k-3k range yesterday. More of an impulse buy. I got 3 people saying they have it, just can’t get to it until maybe next weekend. 2 scammers and no call backs. Had cash in hand and a trailer from the neighbor ready. Well the impulse is gone and I’ll keep my cash :)

Next time you get the impulse to spend cash, just throw it my way and the impulse will end. Lol [emoji39][emoji202]

My buddy said the same thing also. Had the same problem.

Passport as gov ID and none of this real ID shit (basic CA DL). Everything is sent to my business address at the UPS store.

The "People of Craigslist" got to love them. When I was selling my Air Chair I had someone ask me to deliver it to them. Are you kidding me?

Right! Some had similar stories. It is weird how no matter what you try to buy, you will find scammer stories.

I'll throw in a delivery option and it's always helped the sale and get whatever item out of the garage to free up space. I've never had a person bail when I deliver an item. Now it has to be worth my while and over $100. I've delivered tools, scaffold, furniture. I have some storage totes for sale. 4 for $20. People are asking to meet 20 miles away... I just tossed them.

Recently had a used BBQ listed for sale for cheap ($150) on C/L. Had a guy call and ask if I would be willing to deliver. I am thinking the guy is local. NOT!.. Wanted me to load the grill up and bring it to him......70+ miles away. Said we could "work out a deal when I got there". LOL. So lets see.........go through the effort of loading it into my truck, drive it in my gas Ram 2500 70+ miles with no compensation for time, fuel, wear and tear, just to wait for him to throw a low ball offer my way????? LOL...."Take a hike, dude"!

I have the new DL and they allowed me to keep my office address on it. I had to show proof of where I lived, but wasn’t required to put it on DL.

Same for the Passport Card.

Bumping an old thread but the CL and offerup attitudes have changed this year. I've been listing stuff at a high price. If someone pays, that's great. If someone offers 80%, its theirs. All I'm getting is F.U. your price is bullshit and their not even interested in the item or I can buy a new one for less sob story. Do get offers but they are way low. I'm selling a new bosch breaker hammer. Asking 1200 will take 1000. New one is 1500. Just sold a CRF150R for 2700. Was asking 3600 and got a bunch of shit for it. Guy asked if he could look at it. Tell him 3000 and he comes over. Comes over and told him 2700 and spend the 300 on gear for his daughter. I had people offering me 850 like it was a favor on their part.

Sold my wife's Mazda, Mexican couple...broken English and all. I wrote a bill of sale, got all the info off HER drivers license, he didn't have one. Got cash, all was good. Went to AAA next day, made sure car was out of our name. Fast forward, 2 weeks, car was never registered, was used in a crime, cops come to our home, I give all the onfo. to cops, because of the info. we provided, the couple were found and arrested, I think one of the crimes was a hit and run (gee, go figure) ALWAYS cover your back side!

All good ideas

I’ve always advised “sorry for late call back, was on a traffic stops”

Sets the tone real quick if they want to risk a gun battle over a vehicle. Sold over 20 vehicles in 25 years with 0 issues , lol.

I've got a mildly entertaining sale story. I fabricate as a hobby and need a gate for my house. I know what it takes to build one, so I find a nice used gate for sale about 4 miles away. We couldn't make Saturday work so we meet Sunday morning. I'm hungover but don't want to flake on the guy so I drag my ass over there. Show up to his house and he's got a nice f150 prerunner in the driveway, welding and fabrication equipment in his garage. We talk fabrication for a bit. He tells me he had the gate built because of how much work these things are to fab. I could tell this dude was more hungover than me. Just barely able to function. So I keep it short, take the gate and go.

Just funny to find someone during a sale that has the same routine, interests and prerunner as me.

Had a Phoenix government official come look at my boat. We agreed on price and the final thing to do was lake test. I agreed to the lake test, but said we have an agreed sale if it performs well and there are no issues. He says, "oh yeah of course".

For the lake test he shows up at my house with a cooler, his son, his neighbor and his neighbor's kid all in bathing suits and beach towels. We end up on the lake for over an hour with him wanting a 101 class in boating and the kids swimming. I finally called it a day and as we were about 100' from the dock he says, I'll take it for, and then offers $2k less than what we agreed on.

I can feel when I'm about to go all BIlly Jack and I could feel it coming on, but bit my tongue, took a breath and just nonchalantly said, nope its the price we agreed on.

I have several buyer and seller storys. I sling allot of stuff and have for years. The best story was, several years ago sold a boat. Was a older Yamaha jet boat. Bought it for $6500 to take to lake mohave for week and then put it up for sale for $7000 after the trip. (cheaper than a rental, might be able to make a few bucks) got a call from a Mexico number. Guy really wanted the boat and wanted to meet that night. I had already made plans and couldn't meet till later (after 9pm)
About an hour after the phone call, received another about the boat. Guy asked a bunch of questions, eventually told me he was from homeland security and interested in boats like mine because they are frequently used for trafficking. I told him about getting a call earlier from Mexico and he became very interested in meeting. He drove straight to me and we met face to face. He explained how they were always one step behind these traffickers and how he was very interested in monitoring the sale of my boat. I agreed to let them monitor and even be there during the sale. I had the boat at a storage lot and gave him the info. He arranged to have an agent with me when I did the transaction. Later that evening, I met with the agent and went to meet the buyers at the boat location. The agent hung back and acted like a buddy of mine. Three guys show up in a standard cab Chevy, only 1 spoke English. We haggled about the boat. The guy was most interested in the title and if it ran. He gave me $6800 cash for the boat. We did a bill of sale to a Mexico address. I managed to take a picture of his California Id. All was good and we both went on our way. Him and his buddy's with the boat and me and my agent buddy with the cash. I dropped off the agent, he thanked me and that was it.
The next day I get a call from the first contact agent. He thanked me for letting them monitor the sale. He said, "Did you see us there last night?, I said " see you?" , I saw your agent that was with me!!!!
He proceeded to let me know that there were 20+ agents there within 20 to 100 feet of where we were at, checking on us.

A few months go by, I get a call from the agent. He asked "Do you remember what the weight capacity of that boat was?"
I said I thought it was 1000lbs. He said "We caught it last night with 1200 lbs of drugs on the beach in San Diego!"
He said I would also probably get a call from the impound lot because that's were my boat was and I was the last registered owner.
It turns out, they put a tracker on the boat before the sale and watched and monitored everything for months to get to the higher ups. They arrested several people in the whole deal. I did get a call about the boat, but surrendered it to the impound. I had my fun and even made $300 on and got a cool story.
