Alright...been up since 2:30A and kind of excited as today is departure day. Hooked everything up last night and packed everything away.

i am going to try to update things in here...good and bad along the way. Possibly someone will be able to use some of this info themselves if they ever set out to do this as well.

i wont be specific location wise usually. Just generic as to where I am and so forth.

first stop is New Mexico for one night.

i am anxious as I will be heading to areas in the South I havent been to before.

Hopefully I am going to keep my sense of adventure along the way and dive in. I have no desire or want to hit any big cities. 100% zero desire.

so....Off me and Roxy go in a bit. Gotta to at least wait for sun up. Lol

If I recall there is a dumpy little casino on I40 with a free campground in back. Electric and water. Great for an overnite stop if there are open sites.

Maybe a little out of the way, especially for 1 night. City of Rock campground was cool.

Carlsbad Caverns is a must see.

We did this for 3 years and loved it. If you give your general route I can suggest places to see.

This will be interesting- So your leaving/left Arizona- heading across the USA? Going to the east coast? Florida, Maine? I've never made a trip like that, I would imagine there is fascinating things to see in every state.
You know, your on the hook for daily/weekly updates - Safe travels

Maybe on your way back you can pick up a southern bell. Have a safe trip and can’t wait to go along for the ride..These are some of the best threads.

super jealous of this adventure man!

take is slow and enjoy the ride. You are 100% right on staying out of the major cities, there is nothing good there. You're going to get so much good food in the south. I can still remember this tiny 6 table dinner I went to in this 1 stoplight town in Arkansas, i got these thin cut porkchops w/ gravy, 2 eggs and biscuits and gravy, without a doubt one the best breakfasts i've ever eaten, served up by the sweetest ol black lady you've ever met. Totally picture perfect "south"

If in southern Louisiana try their Boudin. For those of us who like it, that stuff is habit forming. Don't believe it is available elsewhere in the country. Some of the best is in Scott LA, just west of Lafayette.

You should be like Huewl Howser but doing RDP Gold-Narrate your trials and tribulations. Maybe even document the RDP members you meet along the way. If in Boise, ID...have a cold one for you ;)

If you haven't driven for days across Texas that'll be a new experience for you
Yeah, no Sh%t, I have never drove across Texas but I hear is boring and long on steroids. I drove from So Cal up HWY 5 to Eureka and thought I was going to go crazy.

Yes. I have done it 4 or 5 times. Have friends in Fort Worth, so when we would always stop there. Damn it takes forever. At least they have 80 MPH speed limits in a lot of it, although I would only tow at 70 or less.

I live near Dallas.

El Paso, TX is closer to the CA border than it is to me...

Truth...
I-40 Eastbound soon as you cross the NM/Texas border the landscape becomes nothing but White windmills...that stretch on forever.

OK....First stop was Deming NM the other day. Used my Harvest Host (harvesthost.com) membership to stay at a winery. I decided to just take the 10 all the way out of AZ. HH just suggests you spend $20. at these places as you don't have to pay to stay, can put out your slides but they do not have any water or power. No problem for me :). I will use these types of places when I am being transit to another point for a night. HH has wineries, golf courses, pubs and farms and there are a ton of them.

Anyhow....the drive wasn't bad....Tucson was a bigger stretch then I remember thru there. It was pretty windy east of there all the way into Deming. Wasn't an issue pulling the 5th wheel but a trailer would have been getting pushed around quite a bit. Only stopped at one rest stop for Roxy and nothing else. I didnt eat or anything which I would not suggest. Make sure you get something to eat BEFORE hitting the road. Uneventful travel for the day.

The winery-tasting room was better than I expected. I was starving and had pretty much emptied out my fridge before leaving. When I walked in there were a few couples in there that were not RV peeps. Sat down and ordered a glass of Merlot without any high expectations. To my surprise it was very good. A bottle is like $18. but I just got a glass for 10. and asked for a menu for food. Very limited menu....cheese platter and some flat bread dealio. I ordered the meatball flat bread. It did the trick and I started checking my next day route. My total bill was about 23. which included the tip as well. Very reasonable pricing.

The first lady to greet me inside had on a mask but was very pretty and had a very nice body. Probably 28-30 years old. Tats on her neck but not trashy. Very polite and courteous. Same with the other lady that came to the table. They were very accommodating and wanted to make sure I was good with everything. Excellent service. As I was in there another 3-4 RV, Vans and trailers showed up. All couples....no traveling single women....lol Most were getting the wine tasting deal of 6 different wines for about 12. or so.....not a bad deal. This would be a great stop if traveling with your better half for sure.

They had a huge grassy area and told me I could take Roxy anywhere I wanted so we walked around for a bit. After that hit the 5th wheel and had a few beers and called it an early night. Nothing exciting but a good ending to a somewhat short day of driving. Couldn't use my Verizon hotspot there for whatever reason so put on some over the air tv and fell out.

The only thing I didn't like about it was the parking lot is dirt and pebbles. With the winds really blowing it blew around a lot of dust in the lot. The temps were dropping quick.

I will be putting up info AFTER I have already left these places instead of while I am there. I just prefer it that way.

Here are a few pics.....Its a cool place to stop as you cross NM on the 10.

In typical RDP style, this thread needs pics of the hot neck tattoo chick!

In all seriousness, this will be an epic adventure and I will be following this thread!
