I remember seeing this last time it was lit.. Looking forward to seeing it again!

Big News!!!!

2021 marks the 35th anniversary of the first lighting of Cupcake Mountain. It also marks the 10th anniversary of the last lighting.

Over the last few years there have been many, many requests, inquiries and posts about the tradition, many of which include people who really want to see it happen again.

I'm happy to share that The Leaping Lizard Tribe will be lighting the mountain again this year!!!!

Saturday, October 30th at 9pm, Cupcake Mountain will once again be lit up!!!

Because the mountain is located in a wilderness area, The Leaping Lizard Tribe is working closely with the Bureau of Land Management to make this happen. We have had an agreement in place with them since the area was protected in the 1990s, so that we are able to continue to do this. However, it also means we are regulated in how we light it, and how many people we are allowed to include. Because of this, and because of limited parking, we ask that, if possible, people please refrain from hiking up that day.

Pretty cool.

I grew up going to Blythe and Parker, but one time my pops decided to head up to Havasu for the first time. We took one of those tour boats, and literally, the only thing I remember about that trip was cupcake mountain. Kind of funny the things we remember, but I remember the tour guide pointing up to the mountain and me being in awe that it was actually shaped like a cupcake. I'm guessing I was probably 7ish.... 30 years later and I still remember it.

Why is this done? And how do they do it (fire or huge spotlights)? And is it only for one night?
