My friend and I donated our time and gear to the Chapman Film School last week in Orange County. Little did these students know that they would have the industry's undisputed top dog camera guy shoot their school project, I'm his Camera Assistant, I was pulling focus on his steadicam with my gear. It was a great day with some bright young folks with big hopes and dreams.

That’s cool! My FIL was a first assistant just retired a couple months ago after almost 40 years.

Great time on a ride over the last couple days. Left Parker to Laughlin and stayed the night. Then ran from Laughlin, east over the mountains, south to Topock, then crossed back to CA and south to Parker today. Pretty rocky, had a couple flats on on one car (plugged one and replaced the other).

My cousin had a ball joint issue at the end of day one and had a snowbird hook us up with some files and a c clamp to get it all out back together. It held up all day today 🤙🤙

Looked like a great time. You made from Parker to Laughlin In the one day? That would be great as the in laws live there. Might have to give it a try one of these days.

Yeah, the ride from Parker to Laughlin was all on the CA side. About 110 miles and a lot of it was bladed powerline road.

Rad !!!
My neighbor just brought Me back 2 big pieces of wood from the Philippines.
Some mohogany and a big piece of Yakal from his wife's cousins farm.
I wanna glue up a couple cutting boards, but I don't have a planer . . . yet. LOL.

If you don't plan on using a planer often I would find a buddy that has a planer and maybe a jointer. Depending on the pieces of wood if you glue them together on the face you're going to be prone to warping. I tend to cut my wood up and do edge grain, it's a bit stronger and less warping. Someday I'll be patient and do a patterned end grain board. Getting everything square and using the correct glue are the most important parts. All of my boards are glued with titebond 3.

They always look so much better after I oil them, this one is just done with oil treatment, and it will be waxed, then it needs to find a home.

Sure, It's basically controlling the focus on the lens of the camera, along with zoom and iris. But on roaming cameras it's done remotely/wirelessly. Cinema cameras and lenses are now being used for broadcast purposes, just like the Superbowl halftime show. But when you use a cinema camera (large format/full sensor) with a Cine lens it creates an extremely shallow depth of field making the focus very difficult to be sharp. So a focus puller or (1st Assistant Cameraman) will do the job. If you ever watch NFL or Golf on TV and you see a really weird shot where the quarterback is in focus and all the background is blurred? That's what I'm doing now, only on live TV shows. It's similar to your DSLR cameras shooting HDR with auto focus, but we use bigger cameras and a focus puller. We us all types of Prime lenses (means no zoom) and also zoom lenses. Lens changes are a pain, so I always try to sell a zoom lens as it changes size on the fly. I set up a station with my focus controller and monitor in the pit somewhere out of the way and pull focus on the Steadicam.
Do you know Mark or Shane Hunter?

Funny! Yeah I know Marc Hunter really well. I traveled the world with him building his camera cranes, we go way back. Believe it or not I’m working with his son Cory today on Frasier. Small world.. lol How do you know them?
