I build these things to be used, but once someone lays eyes on them they don't want to use them (usually wives). We use ours, but wife only cuts veggies on it. The woods I use don't really allow too much knife marks, you'd be surprised.

The sound it makes when you cut on them sounds pretty cool, it's solid!!!!

Here was the very first one I made when I was messing around with boards. My wife uses it for our veggies, this is like a year n a half of cutting. I'll hit it with a quick sand and wax it and post another photo in a little bit. You can't hurt them.
