A neighbor up the street has a very clean orange 240z w/ a small block in it. Total sleeper, sounds real nice.

Damn, this thread just sent me through the way-back machine!

I had a 72 Datsun 240z that I built into road race car as a kid. 280 bottom block, 240 E88 head (higher compression), 5 speed, and Triple Weber Sidedrafts! Eibach springs, Tokico adjustable shocks, Gutted, caged and street legal.

That thing sounded sooooo sweet when you were in the throttle!
I sold it like a dumb ass kid and have never seen it again. 😔

(Best friend had a awesome avacado green 510 that was also a blast to drive!)

I know there was a time that nissan bought up all the 240s and 260s they could. Sent them back through the assembly line and factory restored them. They actually sold them for a good price for the time.

Don't remember when but think it was in the 90s.

Yes, I’d guess late 90’s. Nissan bought, and restored them as NISMO special editions, or so articles and media said. Don’t think i ever knew of one being bought and sold, but lots of articles about it.

I bought mine for 1k in San Francisco. Plan was drive up from LA for a one day nonstop turn around trip with a couple buddies. Turned into a shit show.

Bought the car practically sight unseen and in the poring rain. Trailer flat, learned some Denny’s serve beer, drunk buddy got into a road range incident as a rear passenger and tried to throw an extra Hitachi dome top carb out the window at some guy in a Cadillac, Hell of a trip!

Car was much rougher than I thought by the time it was home. Had White House paint ROLLED ON. Head gasket leak.
Never should have sold that car.

I worked with the first American president of Nissan, considered him a friend. Unfortunately he died recently.

It sucks that this company has completely lost their identity. If Nissans weren’t perpetually on sale, they wouldn’t sell. Their brand is shit, they’ve won the race to the bottom and consumers consider them cheap Toyota’s.

Throw in the CVT garbage and I dunno how they even sell cars.

I have friends that are mechanics and they hate working on Nissans. They say it takes twice as long to work on them over a Honda or Toyota.

I have two 240Z's in my neighborhood (different owners).

One has a V-8 in it, but I haven't seen it up close.

One is all original, unrestored 2nd owner who has owned it since the 80's. He recently gave it to his Son. I found an old Z keychain of mine while going through some boxes last year, and gave it to his Son.

I had a 79 280ZX, an 82 Turbo 280ZX, and an 85 Turbo 300ZX. Loved them all. I will try to find some pics.

Interesting story about how the Japanese came up with the Datsun name.

it appears the founders of the company told the engineers that they wanted a name for the car in 24 hours. One of the engineers replied Dat soon...

That thing looks sweet. I bet it kicks ass on many other expensive imports etc. Does it see the track much?
He sold it last year, but I believe he took it to Sears Point (excuse me Infinion...no make that Sonoma Raceway. LOL) and Thunderhill.

Saw this little gem at my storage place. It must be a new arrival, as I have never seen it before.

I looked for pics. This is the only pic I have of my Turbo. This pic was part of a series of pics to fight a parking ticket. LOL.

I eventually put shorter, stiffer springs in it, which lowered it a little. But this pic looks stock height.

Here is my 79 280ZX. It was my first car with AC. LOL. I only had it a month, as my buddy totaled it driving too fast in the rain on a windy road. He had a bad ass Wolfsberg GTI. I warned him to be careful because this car drives way different than his car. Front wheel drive vs rear wheel, independent posi rear end. He didn't listen. He surprisingly walked away without a scratch.
