Just last week DCB repowered one of their M28’s from 300’s to the new Merc 450’s!

Pictured here with the original 300’s

With an additional 300 hp (150 per side) the boat picked up an incredible 20 mph gain! Taking the boat from 113 mph to a blistering 133!

Upon initial testing at Lake Elsinore their new M33 ran 125 mph with the 450’s and 36 pitch props. The number is respectable, but the main comments we received was the unbelievable mid range acceleration with that combo.

Just a few hours ago they tested a set of 38’s on the boat with Johnny B, Tony C & 110 gallons of fuel and I’m happy to report the boat pulled a 131 mph at 6250 rpm!

In talking to Tiny he feels a set of 37’s would be perfect for the boat, and 36’s if you plan on carrying a load.

Congrats to Team DCB!! 131 mph in a 33’ boat is unbelievable!!

These guys are always doing it right. A lot of thought and engineering into these boats.

If he sold the 300‘s for half the cost of new. At 15k a piece. His 20 mph pick up cost him $4400 per mph. That doesn’t seem worth it in my opinion.

Wow...131 in a 33 with OB's....who would have thought that prior to 4 stroke v8's... Bet some of 29 and 33 owners are scratching their head about those 400's....

Lol...

It's not about efficiency or R.O.I. It's about hauling ass and having fun. Don't be the downer dude.

I really need to log off and go sell some train track. :p

Bad jokes aside, I dig the trailer with the extension and appreciate guys with far more means than myself having fun.
Happy Friday and weekend everybody. :)

Dude, do you remember how bad we used to bag on outboards. We used to drive Rocky into the ground about that Carrera he had with outboards. Now even a hi performance cat I'd probably go outboard, just to easy. Wait till Mercury busts out a 550.

Rocky's luck he probably have the same guy rig his 450 OB's and probably not even roll over on plane... :)

They only had 10-15 hours on them.. With the shortage of 300’s out there I’d imagine he got a lot better than 1/2 price?

Shit there’s guys that would pay full price for them because if you aren’t a Mfg it’s about a year wait to get them right now!

On that note I had a friend buy a cat for 400k. He used it maybe 8 times, boat had like 40 hours on it.. he got 180k for it.

That’s $916.66 per minute of driving it.. Now figure a lot of those hours were idling?? Couple thousand bucks per minute to haul ass. Lol

ROI and boats don’t go together unless you bought used during the recession and right up until a couple years ago.

When he sold it I was doing the math on it and was saying to myself.. That shit is cool but it isn’t 2,000.00 a minute cool. Lol

Now factor the outboard ls can run for 3-5-8 years drama free?? Fun per minute costs drop considerably.

Impressive numbers for sure, but curious how these boats plane and how long it takes to reach these top speeds? From some onboard videos I’ve seen in the past, it looks like these guys are traveling many miles in order to squeak out a few extra mph.

I went for a ride on a Nordic 28ss with 400s. It rolled right over and accelerated hard. Hit 120s fast.....

With the HP and torque of the 450s, I bet performance is impressive throughout the rpm range

I am a die hard car boat motor guy and probably the last guy who would go outboards

But anyone who can do the math can see that outboards are the way to go now

So I am probably pulling the trigger on a 27 Speedster with twin 400’s. (Can’t afford the 450’s) :p

I am curious about this too. I tried to get a ride in a 27 Speedster with twin 400’s but I missed the chance (well drinks were involved)

But I did notice from a video of the same event the OB planes twice as fast as my single inboard. (Same boat)

I am told the midrange is good and it pulls to top mph quickly. I am still trying to hitch a ride to confirm it myself.

I bet those 450’s are monsters.

If I had the scratch I would get that DCB 33 with 450’s. That’s the ticket for a bigger boat. We talked about it but it’s not in the cards at this time.

I even talked to Tony about the 28R with 400’s. 120 mph in a 28 is the ticket too for a slightly smaller boat. Adding 450’s makes it a beast.

I like the idea of being able to drive around for hours essentially cruising and sipping fuel. My same friend told me at 90 mph he was spinning 4800 rpm.

I watched Tim Newton take off for the helo shoot last weekend, boat launched like a toon, completely flat, the tunnel tab makes a huge difference.

Kind of boat model dependent because some of them rip on plane and others take a minute.. Generally speaking though yes that last 1-2 take awhile.. lol. But that’s kind of true in any situation isn’t it? Sit there lightly touching the trim trying to get every last bit..

I still like the sound of V8’s... but it’s hard to argue when some of these god damn things have their first service intervals about the time I’d be 3k into services on a small block, and extended warranties that are longer than the expected life of a big block..

Up to eight years of warranty now? Wtf?

Seems the larger I/O tunnels can take a pretty big hit on the resale market, curious how the OB rigs will fare @ 3-5 years old.
I realize these are of a new world order, but in the past it always seemed I/Os, make, model, dependent, held their value better than OB's.

When I rode in bully's Nordic 28ss with 400s I was really impressed. Very Fast and very civilized
