69 Roadrunner was no doubt their best year! .. Also wanted one, and will have it but aren’t very many around! You don’t see many at the shows around havasu …. maybe one if you’re lucky!!

3.23 would probably be a good gear. Not going to lose much down low with that blower. Then add a gear vendor overdrive. Have one on my Dart with the 4.10’s and a 28” tire. Makes long distance driving bearable.

The only speeding ticket I ever received was in the 68 Dart on the way to California Speedway for some drag racing. 😁

Pulled over by CHP on 210 near the 15. Ticket was dismissed after a series of delays and a trial by written declaration.

I remember when I had to ask permission to buy shit. 🤓😂
…When I lived with Toby the terrible… She used to encourage me to buy shit… So what did I end up with when we split up…quite a few cars🤷🏽‍♀️… and 650 vinyl albums from the 60s and 70s🤷🏽‍♀️

Leave it and put a gear vendor in it, @bonesfab is a dealer

I didn’t even know what these were. Buddy of mine said the same thing last night and I did some googling.. those are rad (and spendy). I love the idea of keeping the 4.10’s but having an overdrive. I’m wondering if it’s something I can do in the garage or I need a pro.

My ex wife was great with putting up with my bullshit and the toys I ran through. lol. I absolutely did ask for permission, I was just trying to sound cool. 😬

It can be done in a garage, everything can be done in a garage. Ask me how I know.

You can do it yourself, the only thing you will have to have done that you can't do is shorten the driveshaft, everything else just follow the really well written (no really) instructions.

Are there no overdrive transmissions available for Dodge muscle cars?
There is but you have to finesse the trans tunnel with a hammer to make it fit. I do know a built 727 is really strong and a gear vendor is near bullet proof, I don't know how strong the 80's A500 42h and a A518 46re can be built

Found this

My engine puts out 880 horse and would probably destroy that thing. The trans is beefed up a lot. I think my only real option is the gear vendors OD, or buying a pre-built pumpkin with 3.53’s and swap it out..

…or get a trailer. 😒

I did my gearvendors instal by myself, it's very doable! Shortening the driveshaft is the next hurdle. I recently heard that we don't have anyone local doing drivelines anymore, heard we have to go to Kingman now.

Yes you have to go to Kingman. Since Carquest is gone not sure what happens. He would send it down to them and collect payment so you didn't have to drive up there.

JD Machine would do them too but after Mike sold, that place went downhill and doesn't exist anymore.

I'm thinking Gearvendors is the way to go, overdrive makes a old car way more useable. I hear they are pretty hard to break, I ended going with a TKX for my car as it was already a manual trans car. I talked with a guy at Gearvendors, he was saying it's an easy job to install, getting the driveshaft shortened is no big deal either.

So I called gear vendors, and they were a little concerned with how many modifications there are to both the front end (all tubular) and the transmission crossmember (also aftermarket / tubular) and then with how low the car sits. They said it’ll work, obviously, but I’d need to go into project being ready for “significant” floorpan modifications (which I’m not prepared for) if the driveline angles are altered from the factory to begin with.

At this point I’m leaning towards getting a pre-built center section with 3.23’s and keeping the 4.10 one on the shelf for if I ever try to get an ET out of the car.

In that video, that’s going through all 3 gears and you can hear how wrung out she is 😂

cruising rpm is overrated, I have 3.91's in the chevelle, sure, the freeway kind of sucks, figure 4k at 80 kind of thing, 3k at 60. Around town its not big deal with a big converter as well. I would only bother swapping gears if you were planning on driving that car on some long road trip. I agree that about an hour on the freeway is all I ever want to do, and only every few months to the track.

80 for this car would be 4100 RPM and I’m just not willing sustain that 😂

I don’t have aspirations of major road trips with it, but I would like to be able to take it to Kingman / Bullhead / Vegas for shows etc.

I’d love to do the Power Tour West with it this year but we will see if work has other ideas.

Post 172, I don't know how much finessing is required, it even sounds like maybe your trans tunnel may not be factory by how much has been done and a built OD might fit.

I’m going to crawl under it and have a good look before I decide either way, I’d love to have the gear vendors and keep the 4.10’s for sure!!

The posts I’ve seen of guys putting them in this car have only required minor dents in the tunnel.

If you use a rubber mallet it most likely won't hurt the finish

So the question is, what's cheaper, the overdrive or an enclosed trailer?
Oh, and nice parking job...

I can't tell by the photos, does it have a Dana 60 or something else? If it has an 8 3/4 Chrysler or if they put Ford 9" in the car when it was modified, you could build another center section with a 4.10 or 4.30 for racing, etc. Bones is correct about the 3.23 for normal driving.

The thing will pull harder with the 3.23. Just do that and be happy. A gear vendor in that car will take some work.

I appreciate you chiming in, thanks!!

I don’t often blame others, but that’s where I fit when I originally parked it 😂

It’s an 8.75. I’m going to order a center section with 3.23’s once I measure what U-Joint it’s got.

I have a couple friends that have been jammed up by Havasu PD for little tire chirps. It’s insane. They’re hammering loud exhaust right now too….

Just absolutely beautiful. If I ever had the cash, I'd get a Challenger and a retro-modded '70 'Cuda
