It's funny, I just ran across an old business card that my old man had in his collection, and I can remember (even growing up in the 80's) him using the old code for business. Ours was "Union 7-3558".
It got me thinking after a few cocktails... "what would my cell phone be?" Ugh-2725??? WTF!!! 🤣our world has really gone to shit...

I remember being at my grandma's house in the 60's and she was on a party line. I'd sneak in the foyer and listen to other people's conversations. I remember one time I farted in the receiver and got some really strange reactions from the other parties. 😁

Triangle 5 5007. Rialto in the 50'-60's.

Another popular one for the I. E. was Turner.

Seems like our party line went away in the late 50's.

Started out as 916-982-2263 then the area code changed to 530 when the rest of northern Ca split from Sacramento.

Damn there are a lot of old farts in here. lol!

As early as I can remember we had the same home number that my parents still have. The 818 area code was created not long before I was born.

If you look at a rotary dial phone or an early push button you will find something missing and had been missing from the beginning until about 20 yrs, ago.
As part of my phone service I used to have the GTE personal assistant. It was a great service that included "voice mail".
My greeting was "Hello: you have reached the Nelson residence. We're sorry that we're not available to take your call personally however if you would like to leave a message for Roger please enter the code Q-1. If you would like to leave a message for Renee please enter the code Q-2. This will direct you to our individual voice mail boxes. Thanks' and have a great day".

The messages we got were great and ranged from hysterical laughter to " where the hell is the Q !!!".

Phew - I thought I was getting old...

I have no idea what you all are talking about.

I only remember having a 10 digit phone number?
Dude I'm only 40. But I grew up in a old school town. We had rotary dial phones until the mid to late 80's, a 13" 13 channel TV that could switch from black and white to to color... And I can remember asking my dad what our phone number was and that's the way he told it to me... 🤣

I remember before area codes. I could also call long distance without using the area code if it was not out the area code. Obviously the letters had nothing to do with area code, they started the second set of 3 digits. When I was small you had to call the operator to make any kind of long distance call. My home exchange phone book covers two pages in the phone book and I am the last one listed.

We kids, at least in our family had to have a dime on us all the time to call home, Parents could ask us anytime to show them the dime, it was HELL to pay if we didn't have it on us. No penny candy for us, at least not with that dime.
