I’m looking to get my CCW in OC, and was wondering if you might know someone that carries daily. What do they carry? LEO friends carry 43 and 43x, but I’m not sure if it’s worth double retail to pick one of those up second hand. G19 is an option, but seems kind of big for 5’9 180.

If you think a G19 is too bulky, then you’re gonna want to look at single-stack options.

Double-stack mags require a certain amount of thickness that there’s no getting around.

I’m 5-10 160 lbs, can carry a G19 with little trouble and no printing in shorts and a t-shirt. But my daily is a single-stack Walter PPS-M2 that’s probably not on the CA roster.

I carry a Glock 43, but it’s highly modified. I will be 100% my little brother just got the 43x and i may be parking my 43 to get one for carry use. In stock form, the 43 is basically a single stack 26, and the 43x is a ss19. That 43x is a bad sum beach

Lipsey 43 vs my modified 43, i essentially made mine a 43x size wise

Bodyguard 380. Everyone who knocks the 380 is likely someone who has not been in an actual shooting. Carry it with a clip mount so no holster and its comfortable even with shorts, swim trunks whatever. Obviously you can go bigger when your clothes allow, but this is something you never have to put in the glovebox due to size/weight.

This is exactly what I carry. People may knock it like you said. But I carry it because its small and its convenient. And when its small and easy to carry you carry it all the time. Like you said boardshorts riding my beach cruiser is not a problem. I use an inside the waist band holster.

I do plan to get a glock 43 eventually.

I carry the same. Goes right into the cargo pocket without issue. I wouldn't try to make headshots at 10yds with it, but rule #1 of winning a gunfight is to have a gun.

I swapped from the 43 to the 43x. Both are great options. I carry essentially everyday, everywhere I go. Both conceal easily with IWB holster.

Nobody carries revolvers?
I've tried the semi autos and too heavy and bulky
I like the simplicity
Charter Arms 357 Pug
My buddy has a Ruger LCR and I'm looking at that now. Super light. 6 oz less than my Pug

If I am just running some place quick I carry a colt cobra in a pocket holster, but that is very rare.

S&W Body Guard .380 or a Sig P938 (9mm). both small enough to be a "dinner gun" both single stack. 7 capacity with extended Mag

A lot of nice smaller sized dbl or single stack compact semi-autos suitable for daily carry avail now...

Unless you live in CA. The only way around that is to pay through the nose for a second hand gun

I know a guy that carries a S&W 686+ 3" barrel OWB. A 7 shot 357 Magnum. About 5'-10" and 145lbs. Does it in shorts and a T shirt. Also carries 2 extra moon clips. Claims he's never been made.

I used to carry on my ankle until I had 100lbs pit hanging off of my arm and couldn't get to it. Now nothing goes lower than my waist.
It's also bad for circulation for your leg.

G19 is hard to beat for size and capacity.

S&W MP bodyguard 380, not much bigger than an Iphone and with good hollow points it will make a decent hole.

I was thinking about it, and it makes sense if you can use the full capacity. Limited to 10 rounds, why would you pick it over something smaller that maxes out at 10 rounds?

Buddy says he will sell me his 43 or 43x if I want it. I might also rent a shield as another option because I know my buddy can make much more than I’d want to pay, and the extra couple hundred for him could pay for some more range time with me.

I carry standard capacity mags and I'm sure you know about the recent federal ruling. Have you rented/test fired some of those models you mentioned to see if they work well for you? There really are a number of good options available just depends on personal preference and how you choose to conceal carry. I've always appendix carried and the Glock 19 is small and light enough to be not that uncomfortable or show any printing when used with a good IWB holster. One thing nice about Glocks is the option for mag extensions or using larger capacity mags from other models, etc...I carried MP compact for many years but prefer the 19 over it especially with the Apex trigger.

I'm not sure what Federal ruling you are talking about. Possibly the OK on standard capacity mags which was quickly reversed in a week back to 10 rounds? I've shot the 43 and 43x, but it's been a while. I like to train with my G17 MOS rather than switching back and forth between a bunch of guns. "Train with what you may have to fight with mentality rather than just going out and having fun" CCW will be appendix carry only, and I will definitely try everything out again before purchasing. Thanks for the insight on the G19. I will try that out as well when another friend gets his for office carry.

I just bought a Sig P365 today. Got to wait ten days so I can cool off a bit. I also have a Ruger LCR which is really light and small. Works well for its size. This might be its replacement though.

The ruling wasn't reversed. The judge just added a temporary injunction to his own ruling pending appeal to the higher court. Some of these bullshit California laws will finally get reversed. I agree with you. I have stuff I specifically train with and other stuff just for plinking fun. Sounds like you are on the right path to finding what will work best for your individual needs.

I carry a P30sk with +1 Extension, and a Stealth Gear Rig. Most comfortable setup I've had, and have been conceal carrying my whole Life. Getting in and out of the Car is even a breeze and can drive Holstered for a couple hours.

For Ammo I either run Gold Dot's or Liberty's.

Lots of good options besides the Glock offerings in the 42/43 range. Now, I’m a huge fan of the 19 so don’t label me as a Glock hater. I owned the first gen of the LCP, then the G 43 then the G42. All was ok till I picked up an Shield. Wow! I sold all three previous guns and now exclusively carry the Shield in 9mm if I’m not carrying the G19 or any of my 1911’s.

What firearm would you prefer? I see your limited to the Ca roster. Do you have experience with firearms? I suggest to start with a single stack 9mm and once you get comfortable with carrying a firearm start trying out larger ones as in frame and caliber. I figured carry the biggest firearm you are comfortable with. I wouldn't get anything smaller than a 9mm. I had a Glock 42 (.380) and it was a let down and I felt no way this would put a "stop" to a problem in a timely manner. Try the S&W 9mm Shield. Its a mean sounding little fucker that has a good bark and can be easily concealed. You can pocket holster it if need be.

If I wasn’t in CA I would probably carry a gen 5 G19 MOS because it’s a good all around gun and has more than enough capacity. I’m not really limited by the roster if I buy 2nd hand, only the 10 round magazine capacity limit. I’ve got the gen 4 G17 MOS that I put about 500 rounds through a month and have shot the 22, 42, 43, 43x, and a Sig and CZ that I don’t remember the models. It pays to have LEO friends that are into firearms. My buddy and I are taking a 2 day course in Oct and a private CCW course after that and he’s going with the shield so it looks like I’ll have some solid exposure to that before I have to make a decision. Good to see I’m on the right track as the same guns keep coming up.

FYI, I can shoot the Shield accurately at 25yds on a B-26 target all day long. Couldn’t do that with any other compact. And follow up shots were quick

I just got a message from Magguts that their +1 magazine spring will be ready in 2 weeks for the S&W 380. Turns clip from 6+1 rd to 7+1rds

To be clear, are you guys shooting the 1.0 or 2.0 shield?
I had both a 1.0 and then a 2.0. They were 9mm compacts not the shield. I liked the latter better due to improved trigger and mag capacity but still found the G19 superior overall for CCW.
