Thanks for the replys, i will be testing the boat in parker for its mayden voyage over the 4th and see how hot the v-drive gets, if it does. I get different replys from different people, some say you need water and some say you don't i guess i will find out.
All the water does is cool the top part of the case where your leg or hands might touch it in a flatty. In a cruiser, it's out of the way, forget about it. Run a good synthetic gear lube and be done with it. Is the rear end in your car or truck watercooled? There are ways to cool the oil in a v-drive but they don't have anything to do with the waterjackets in the cases.
