With so many of us losing our friends lately I though it would be appropriate to remember them. This is Woody, more human than most people....it's been 2 months since he collapsed and took his last breaths in my arms. Woody, 12/26/2004 - 3/14/2016. Post up your pics.

When I lost Neva it broke me as a person.. Loved that dog like it was one of my kids. It was about then why I realized why old school people don't get that attached to dogs. Got her as a puppy so young she couldn't cross a threshold, and was with me just about everywhere until her last day.

It's strange that you say you were "broken as a person", that's pretty close to how I feel. It's been 2 months and I don't think I've gone a whole day without tearing up.

This is Sampson. He crossed the bridge last November at 12 1/2 years old. He was a full blooded Blood Hound, born May 10, 2003.

His Mom was a tracking hound, first for the Arizona Department of Corrections, and later for the La Paz County Sheriff, after I acquired her from DOC. His dad was a SAR hound in Northern Arizona. His 2 sisters went into tracking, one for an Oregon County and the other for Yavapai County. I didn't train Sampson for tracking, so he was just a big hulking 130# house pet. He was a gentle giant who wouldn't hurt a fly, unless in defense of his family.

I held him as he took his first breath, and also when he took his last. We've had numerous animals over the years, but this one was special and hit us really hard when he passed. We miss him every day.

This is Boris, I had to say goodbye last month. I can attest to the difficulties since his passing, I have lost pets before, my cocker spaniel for 20 for gods sake and had him from when I was 5 to 25 and it sucked, but not like this. Sad to say I was closer to Boris than I have been to anyone in my life, right or wrong, that's how hard its been. Found him at 6 weeks or so old, not knowing what he was, and then he kept growing, most gentle animal ever, which was a surprise, but certainly knew who his family was.

Our Sadie, Dec 2001 - May 2014. We'll never forget her or ever stop missing her. She was s true "River Diva" of sorts. Just above Black Meadow there is a cove. I have no idea of the official name. But for many of us, and some here at RDP, it will always be known as "Sadie's Cove". Because it works . . . . RIP big girl .

Losing our Molly changed me forever. She was our first dog together and was our kid, as we have no human kids. Watching her go downhill so quickly after her diagnosis and having to say goodbye to her before she even turned 7 was the worst thing we have ever endured. Although the happy memories are more frequent now, there are times when the hurt comes back just as strong. Damn I miss that dog. She was truly amazing and loved the river so much.

Fuck cancer.

We took her to the river every single weekend toward the end. This pic was taken at the end of the day on her last time on the sandbar. The look on her face says it all. We didn't know, but I think she knew the end was near. We had to say goodbye later that week.

My Skylar aka Sky... She was special I got her at 20 years old. She was not your typical Husky either.

She would ride the seadoo when she was a pup ride in the boat, she would stroll the campgrounds picking up on chicks for us!

I would bring her to pool parties as she would run and jump into the pool with you. She was truly an amazing dog. She wouldn't walk on a leash she was trained with hand commands and clicking noises. Best damn dog I ever had..

I had to say good by to my sky on April 30th and it's broken me every since. She was here my whole adult life. She has been through everything with me, my divorce losing everything my parents divorce my grandmas passing, so many things and now she's gone.

I have 3 little dogs that I got from my divorce and while I love them they're not sky. Rest easy my baby girl... I'll see you soon.

I think the term "broken" is exactly right. What's worse is our remaining pup (Floyd) who spent 10+ yrs with Gunner as a brother is a different dog. He just doesn't seem happy and seems lost :( If ya got 20 min to kill...I put this together as a forced therapy...to remember all the good times with him vs just thinking about the loss.

Great video, made me cry :(
Floyd must be devastated and can't understand where his brother is, hope he pulls out of it. Labs are just the best.

This is sooo hard for me. It took me two days to just put this one pic up! This was my best friend for 10 years!
This pic is on her last night with my wife on 4/14/16. Rocky was different than any dog I've ever had. He was 90lbs of pure Boxer and was known around the neighborhood as the gentle giant that didn't need a leash. He was the best family dog ever. He love life, people and most of all my family. I'm old and have had some really good dogs I've had to put down but this one was truly different and had changed me forever. RIP Rocky!

Beautiful video. Very well done. I actually did the same thing for our girl and found that going through all the pictures and videos, while painful, was very therapeutic. Now we have the video of our girl to cherish forever. Kinda glad to know I'm not the only one that did this...

This is the therapy I need also but I'm just not ready yet.
Great looking pup!!

we had to put down willie our crazy one eyed pit bull a week ago.i miss him so much.he was a great boy, except those crazy moments when he bit other family pets.i held his face and took his last breath as I told him I loved him............losing a pet is terrible, but if its a accident or cancer or something out of your control I think its easier.i have such huge guilt in my soul because we put him down.he was on doggie Prozac to help him but after 5 dog fights and trying to kill the cat we chose to lay him down.

I love you and miss you willie willie..........

This place was maybe the only place I could talk about the loss of my pretty little black lab, still hurts beyond believe but it is a little easier these days although the house is just not the same without a dog around. The new king size bed, meant to share with a bed hog dog seems empty....

Haven't watch it in a couple of weeks....... makes me smile and cry at the same time.....

thank you for sharing and letting me share
rb

it was my future son in law in the video who suggested we mount the gopro to her special "red" life vest that we searched all over for!!!!! I am glad we messed around with the video cuz it so cool now to watch!!!

You have all put up very nice tributes to your dogs. I still shed a tear every now and then when I think of my departed palls.

My sweet girl Colby who we lost about a year and a half ago.
After reading through this thread I realized I hadn't been to the humane society in a while to look for a playmate for my remaining dog Dillon.

Thanks to the OP for prompting me to get off my ass. I hope when the time is right those of you that have had a loss recently will do the same.

Life is better with a dog.

It will be a year in July since I put Cash down. He was my first dog and as crazy as he was at times I loved him. The night before I put him down I cooked him a steak (he barely ate any) slept with him on the floor and when the vet came to the house i held his head as he took his last breath with his sister laying next to us. Next to dealing with my son struggles his first 6 months of life it was the hardest, most painful thing I have done.

My wife so loved this dog (yea I did too). Wife has a love/hate relationship with FB memories. She posted so many pictures of Heidi over the years the memory pics come up quite frequently.

2004 a few months old:

God that last picture makes me bawl ever time I see it. [emoji24]

Had to put my beloved Dakota down just before Desert Storm this year. Broke my heart, she went everywhere with me for the past 14 years. As my good friend said, it hurt so much because of how much she meant to me and the good times shared.
