did it a while back 2014...it was ok...nothing spectacular (if you've been to the carribean before) but be mindful of where you are staying, some locations have a shit ton of seaweed on the beaches. It somewhat ruins the beach deal if you go in with a cocktail and your fighting the vegetation. Service Staff was nice and courteous back then, but things may have changed.

Food and drinks were good.

Went diving there a couple times. We loved it. Definitely a 3rd world country but it's cool & we always felt safe.

We did 8 days in Punta Cana at Barcelo Bavaro Palace resort on the beach and it was great. Beautiful grounds, great beach excellent service, but just outside the gate it is a third world country. The beach was clean and water was super clear. It was billed "just like Hawaii but half the price" and pretty much true. Always wanted to go again.

Never been but I am a fan of the all-inclusives... Not to scare, but wasn't it DR a few years back that had some mysterious deaths related to name-brand liquor bottles in rooms that were refilled with some bad batches of local liquor...? I didn't follow the story and don't know what became of it, could just be hype, but might be worth looking up and keeping in the back of your mind. That said, I know a bunch of people that have been there and loved it. Enjoy and post up some pics!

I did 10 days in Puerto Plata at an all inclusive a long time ago. It was awesome, lots of off resort activities just keep your head on a swivel when in the local towns. If I did it again I would go to Punta Cana though.

I vaguely remember that story and too believe it was in the DR.

Every year we go somewhere new with a group of friends, and the girls picked this place a few years back as some of our friends had already done Punta Cana.
I wasn't that impressed, beach was a bit of walk, and the alcohol was all house brand, or you had to pay to upgrade. The casino next door was a bad decision for all of us. Service and food were good, but I was expecting being able to see the beach from the pool with a drink in my hand.

@Ziggy liked it and even stayed at the same place we did. It wasn't our favorite vacation. We are very active but of course still love sitting at a bar on the beach or laying in a lounge chair. However, every type of physical activity or excursion was so far from our resort we kind of just stuck around the resort and I felt myself getting fatter. The beaches are not nearly as pretty as all the other places we have been (Aruba being one of our favorites).

However, we still had a blast. Made some amazing memories.

In 2015 we stayed at Barcelo Bavaro Palace and had a room right on the sand.

In 2019 we went to Hard Rock for the Kid Rock Island Jam. The hotel was amazing, our room was amazing, service was great but the food was just ok - to be expected from an AI.

Interested as we may be heading there for the kids Spring Break. So far, from what I’ve seen, the “5 star” resorts don’t seem as impressive as I would think. Plus, it doesn’t really seem there’s much to do with the family outside the resort. Following

lived there one winter playing winter ball. had my own casita on the driving range at Casa De Campo. Amazing resort. Unreal golf. Food was amazingly terrible. The people are great.

there is poor and then there is dominican republic poor. Its disheartening. But if you get a chance to go during winter league baseball absolutely goto a game. Its not to sketchy outside of resorts but you are correct that there isnt much to do. The roads are brutal i would never rent a car after some of the shit i witnessed on our busses.

Thanks for all the feedback. As beautiful as it looks, we are not sit in a resort kind of people. We like to get out and walk and explore in the mornings. I think we are going to pivot to Key West....
