Can not for the life of me get the spline shaft to engage the drive line female end. No visible damage, and I have cleaned it up, even sanded lightly on the spline ends to clean up any burrs. Suggestions? Last time I installed it went right on. Will not even engage .25 of an inch.

Has this setup been together before or is it a new combo?

Same shaft and driveline. Has been six years since together but has just been sitting in shop. Rebuilt pump but re used same shaft.

I see no grease on either part, that usually helps a bunch. It should always be greased when put in service. The two need to slip easily as the hull flexes, twists and moves during boat operation. Sometimes the splines can be tight with very little tolerance. It's good for less rattle at idle but can make assembly a bit difficult. Also as mentioned, clocking, try clocking it spline by spline to find the best position for it. Sometimes the splines can have some twist in them also. Do you have a straight edge you can use to check for twist before greasing up?
