2006 and I have around 120k with no issues. A few glow plugs now and then but very happy.
I use the Lucas fuel additive and average 14 mpg in city, get close to 16 driving to Havasu and around 12 towing.

2004 with 120k, just spent 2k on the waterpump, and service stuff. Spent $1.200 a year ago or so on the egr cooler. Other than that, it's been great.

2011 with 84,000 and no problems other than an EGR gasket. Lately getting 17+ mpg on the road, got 13 pulling my Howard 22 Sport, the Offshore is much heavier, I'll find out in spring when I bring it home for service how it does pulling this boat.
Only thing I hate is the regens especially when it happens in town and I see my gas, er, diesel mileage go down exponentially, but regens are a fact of life with the newer diesels. Other than that I love the truck and if they weren't so damn expensive I'd be getting a 2015 HD when they come out - love the new interior.

07.5 69000 miles. Only problem I had was a glow plug and a tranny cooler leaking at the fitting. All covered under warranty though. Has a banks exhaust and intake other than that been a pretty good truck. Thinking of selling though I just don't drive it enough thinking of a 1500 gasser. Idk..

I had an '03, bought it new and kept it until '08. Had 105,000 miles on it, only major problem was a trans switch ($400) a day before I traded it.

The tranny cooler fittings are notorious for leaking. Almost never get them to stop.

I don't own a Duramax but everyone I know with them has been extremely happy.

We're ordering a new 2015 D Max.
We love the Ford but the 6.7 issues continue with yet another version being introduced.
Photoglue has the best prices and you can order now.

I guess so if they gave me a brand new tranny cooler instead of just replacing the fittings:thumbsup

58,000 kilometres, no issues. awesome drivetrains, very well thought out. Clean fuel is the key to life on any common rail high pressure system. these engines in the newer ones run at a max of 29,000 psi and dirt is going to cause fuel system issues. The ones i personally see at the dealer with issues are tuned or neglected of course nothing is perfect but if left alone and maintained the chances of issues are much less. :thumbsup

It's a minor issue to the quality of a Duramax. They're great trucks.

That's what we've been hearing. Keep them maintained and they'll be very reliable.

I just traded mine in. 2004 K3500, 204,000 miles. Water pump, a couple temperature sensors, and a transmission sensor.

Never had to do anything to the brakes either. Great truck.

06 2500 HD 4x4, 108,000, box stock, no chip or modifications. One glowplug sensor since I bought it new in 06. Best truck I've ever owned in my 68 years! :)

03 4x4 dmax head gasket 10k, Allison main input bearing grenades 36k, water pump 75k, misc glow plugs, injectors, fuel pump ouch, front wheel bearing seals, a/c damper 140k, heated seat 140k, gauge cluster 40k, the latest and greatest ,148k hole wears through transfer case dealer says that's normal wear and tear, but good news they make a case saver so that it won't happen again.$1400 bucks. Who designs a transfer case that a hole wears through and it's considered normal wear and tear. Other than that it's been a great truck.:grumble: brakes are great still the originals.

I am on my third. Never had an engine problem. This one, a 2009 has gone through three Transmission Control Modules.

Drive train is great but with each iteration, the truck itself has gotten worse. Never ending interior rattles, trim problems, window lift problems, the list goes on.

I would like to get a Ford Truck with a Duramax/Allison transmission in it.

02 2500... Set of injectors @18000, 2nd set @22000, blown motor @22000, multiple fuel/glow plug issues. At 72000 now needs tie rods, a/c damper, and ball joints

I bought Lynch's 05 three years ago, it had 120k, now has 137k. It hasn't missed a beat, no issues, or expenses. It only has to do the hard work, towing my fishing boat to the boat launch, approx 250 miles each way.

2008 dually 4x4 with 187,000 with EFI Live set on #3, egr Blocked, trans-go Jr, 65gal, gal fuel tank and 45gal, in the bed. Pull 40' toy hauler tongue to rear, 16,000lb. and it's the wifes daily driver.

On my way up to Sata Rosa, (up north) From my house in Plamdale, I stopped at Harris Ranch went 204mi, full of fuel 110gal, plus 500lb in bed. on 9.2 gal.
and I filled it with 2 cans to check what went in. 20mpg.
I don't think thats bad.

Only thing was inside door handels peel, replace under warr, and pass, hud had a recall, all fixed and all is good.
avg,mpg just running aroung 16mpg.

04 112k. Being a mechanic saves money. New hubs, steering componets, and water pump a few thousand miles ago. Lifted since day one. When you guys change steering componets add a good steering stabilizer. The tiny stocker doesn't dampen crap causing alot of wear.

05 LLY, 80K (garage queen), no issues at all with powertrain. Airbag sensor ($$) and a couple of broken trim fasteners and thats it! Probably will be buired with that thing....new ones are priced out of sight and even more complicated, especially with the ones with the 'piss-tank' dealio.

My truck has been lifted since 2000 miles and have replaced both hubs and ball joints easy to do. As far as steering components I went with the Cognito pitman arm and idler supports when I lifted it. They help alot when your running 40" tires.

08, 71k, had it since 49k, no major issues for me or in dealer service record. 12.1 mpg avg towing 11,000 lb toy hauler to river and back this year. Love it, makes towing a dream compared to gas.

Def. The Cognito stuff is great. I had a 6.0 before the D max. Overall the D max is much better in my opinion.

Our Toy hauler is 18K GVW. Hope to get 9 towing with the Dmax,, probably dreamin', have a feeling it'll be significantly less.
Hope it's power is at least equal to or better than the 8.1 gas we're towing with now. The 8.1 is a workhorse, works fantastic but,,, 6 MPG.

Parts counter guys we talk to say go GM / Duramax / Alison.

Talked to some GM engineers at the bar at the LA Car show and they said various types of more fuel efficient diesel emission controls are in the development stage. One is electric-supplementing-exhaust heat instead of powered by diesel fuel and is continuous regen. No power loss or hit on the MPG or turbo surge.
No word when or even if we may see anything like that.

Can you recommend a good place to have the extra fuel tank installed?

There are three manufacturers that I found. Transfer flow, Titan, and Aero tanks ( previously mentioned).

Aero from what I understand is a bit more custom. They have an extra tank that will fit into the frame where the spare tire is. Good for another 40 gallons if I recall.

Titan is a composite construction.

The other two are galvanized steel. I believe the mid-ship replacement tanks are all around 60 gallons, up from the factory 36.

I kinda like the idea of having the aero tank(s) at 100 gallons and throwing the spare in the truck bed when needed.

'05 with 82k on it. Sits under a cover in the garage most of the time. Never really had any problems. Got a bad batch of fuel once and limped it home from the river. Changed fuel filter and cleared codes and its been fine since. A few months ago I noticed a little bit of oil coming from the rear main seal area. Changed oil and added that Lucas stop leak stuff and it seems to have stopped it. I really need to get it out and drive it more. The truck really is like new. Interior is perfect. No rattles or anything. Needs a windshield from pitting on those river trips. I love this truck. Probably have if for a very long time.

You'll be amazed at how much more pulling power the Duramax has. I'll NEVER go back to a gas engine.

my '05 was sold with 140k ish on it and had one recall for injectors. My '11 has 108k and not one problem, could not be happier with them both. I am a little concerned that after '15 GM is going to get rid of Allison and start doing the trannies in house. Not sure if I will do another one at this point...the Dmax/Allison package works perfect together.

Fact #1. Daughter crashed it and did $10k in front end damage/now repaired.
Fact #2. Mother-in-law borrowed it and did about $3k in rear end damage. Not repaired because it happened one week after getting it out of the repair shop from the first wreck.

Complaint-next person who crashes it better hit something hard, so the insurance company totals this thing. I don't want to be driving around an expensive turd.
