I have a 2011 Tahoe with a yellow fuel cap so I can run E85? It’s half the price but it will use twice as much is that correct? Any reason not to run it or any good reason to run it? What are you thoughts.

My old worktruck was compatible also and at times i used it but price difference wasnt as much.As far as burning twice as fast aint true but it does burn more than regular gas.I probably went from 12.5 to 10mpg with e85 at the time it cost me about the same fuel wise per mpg.Now if its half the price you will save but if price is within 20 percent not worth it.

I just filled it up wheter i had 1/4 tank or 3/4 made no difference either.

It only uses about 1/3 more fuel, so at half the price, it is cheaper to run e85.

I only will run e85 if I'm planning on highway miles.
When in town or stop-n-go traffic it is not efficient.......but if truly half price you're still some money ahead.

run it, it’s cheaper. All good as long as it’s not left parked for extended amount of time.
No worries for mixing with half gas half ethanol the computer will correct for amount of ethanol

It burns very clean. Your pistons will look almost new if that was all you ever ran. Some vehicles actually make a bit more power when the flex fuel sensor sees enough alky to advance the timing. I know some Ford 5.4s were like 15-20 hp higher on them.

Just not in anything you are going to keep for a lot of miles. The cylinder washing has been an issue in fleet vehicles and the coated pistons help but can’t keep up with the wear long term. Light loads and casual driving seem ok but high miles on police vehicles have been a huge issue. Small enough numbers as a percentage of sales that GM & Ford are still playing until more fleets adopt it. It’s good marketing at these numbers.

I run it in my Tahoe, it runs great on it but yeah the mpg goes down a couple miles a gallon.

I can totally feel the hp difference in my car. More turbo boost.
.
E85 is usually in the 100octane range.

I converted to e85 on my 94 mustang with a sbf 88mm single turbo back in 2008. Nothing like running all the boost in the world on a fuel I got at the pump.

The L83 5.3 V8 in our Suburban makes quite a bit more power on E85.
