I have never owned a boat with an outboard motor. Looking at a 19' Daytona with a Merc 200 EFI.
Possibly 1990's vintage? Maybe newer being that it is an EFI? Are they all 2 strokes? I have read in the past that the lowers play a big roll in how they perform, but not sure. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

Probably EFI, but definitely 2 stroke. CLE gearcase good to 80 is, Sportmaster is the case you want. 260/280s are the motors you want. 200s are fishing motors.

Anything in the 1990’s will be 2 stroke, cle is the way to go, I have owned 2 21’ Daytona outboards, it doesn’t take too much to get a 19’ to go fast, u need a low water pickup, because you need that motor high to go fast. 19’ with outboard sit low, you will have to be mindful of boatwakes from behind, as it was with my 21’s. If you are a novice, be carful, blow overs can and do happen. You should look at the Easter egg 21’ maxed out has for sale.

From everything I have gathered, the 260/280 with the Sportscaster is the preferred set up. Thanks for the input!

Preferred but a whole lot note money. A 260 with sport master will go for $8000, while a 200 fishing motor maybe $1500.

19’s don’t need much to go fast, a 200 will get it to close to 90. The Easter egg 21 for sale I put together last year, runs 104.

I had a 25 Daytona before so aware of the blow over potential. The one I am looking at has the low water pickup but I am not too sure about the 200? I agree they sit low in the rear. Would be a lower river boat but would still have to be careful. The "Easter egg"boat is pretty nice, just don't know if I could get pass the colors? In contention thought. Thanks for the reply

Really nice boat! I've got my eyes on it. Really want different colors but I think a solid colored trailer would go a long way on that set up. My mom survived breast cancer so I can almost relate to the colors.

I had a bahner MOD VP style boat...more of a jet hull, but mine had a 200 merc on it. After a few years of playing with it and trying a bunch of different props, I saw a bit over 83mph in 12" chop....didn't need as much trim to get the boat loose, but it made my eyeballs rattle. It would run 78-80mph in typical lower river water and do it for miles. I got the thing loose a few times with the trim button looking for a bit more. I'm no racer, I've been thrown out of a boat once and I'm not in the mood for it to happen again. Maybe I'll not pursue the low 90s with the Lavey MOdVP I'm putting together now.
