First I have to thank Chet (SocalCricket) for the extremely clean El Camino that was the start of the project. Then I have to thank Jim Bassett (Bones Fab) for the extremely detailed work and knowledge to make this all happen, and Bob, the shop guy that did a lot of the work.
The start was a very clean 72 El Camino with a 350" engine and 350 Turbo Hydro trans. This all started with my wanting to add Air Conditioning (Vintage Air). One thing lead to another, so let's add power windows, and while we are at it maybe a cam so it sounds and runs good. Soooo, it has a hydraulic roller cam, aluminum heads with 2.02" & 1.60" stainless valves, new valve springs, roller rockers, Holley fuel injection, an aluminum radiator and dual electric fans, headers, A Dakota electronic analog dash, 4L60E 4 speed electronic transmission and a new 12 bolt 3.73 posi rear end to replace the old 2.73 gears. I also replaced the 18" & 20" wheels with period correct 15" American Torque Thrust mags and removed the 2" drop spindles in the front and installed stock spindles and new stock rear springs. It runs a good as it sounds. I am quite sure it would beat a stock Big Block car.

Sounds like it used to look really cool! Just kidding...lol. Period correct is the best! Just brought my 65 vette that I have owned since I was 17 and all the BS “upgrades” I did in my 20’s to stockish..guess the originators had it right!

Super jealous. Emperor Palpatine to me: "You want this, don't you?"

I’m so glad you bought this car from SCC. I couldn’t go on this site without drooling over it. Beautiful car!

Mind posting a pic of the Dakota dash? Did it replace a sweep dash?

Looks great. The old muscle cars look good many different ways and allow you to change things to your liking. No real wrong or right. Enjoy!

Here are a couple pictures of the Dakota Dash, there is a button and the information in the center window can be scrolled to many different things, water temp, oil pressure, digital speed, clock, 1/4 mile

Beautiful. We have a 70 trans am I’m in the process of putting back together. Just can’t find the motivation to finish it.

Thanks for posting! Yep, that’s what I’ve had my eye on for my ‘71 Chevelle. Looks great IMO. The functionality of that center screen sounds awesome.
