Figured I would take you guys along as I do my enclosed trailer upgrades.

This trailer will serve 2 purposes. Day trips to take the kids riding and my hunting shack every November.

I’m not going to get to carried away as I was originally going to buy a canvas tent for my hunting trips. So obviously I’m already triple my original budget lol. But hey the wife hasn’t yelled at me yet, so here we go.

First upgrades start next weekend.

Tie downs
Roof coating

Also I’m looking into lifting the trailer as well.

It currently has a drop axle under it.
I’m considering replacing it with this. I just need to find out if my hubs will swap over.

If anyone is interested in the current axle let me know and we can make a deal. Here is the axle info.

Anyone know where to get the plastic sheeting that goes under RV’s to enclose the underneath?

What do you want to do?
With the under belly? I’m going to insulate with foam board then seal it up to keep water, snow mud out as best as I can. Might run some electrical under their next year.

I meant in general what were your overall plans.

For this year I just want to get a few things done
Insulation
Enclosed under neath
Paint roof
Window or 2
Tie downs
Fold down beds and a counter.
Maybe lift it.

Next year maybe small electrical system
Few plugs and a couple lights.
Solar panel and battery
Propane tank mount
4 corner jacks.
Awning
Outside lights

I pulled all the interior paneling to insulate with foam board. Some e teak on the floor and unistrut on the walls for tie downs. Aluminum tool box (vented)on tongue to house battery, and tools. Used a mr. Buddy for heat and had a shelf for a butane or propane stove.

Mine has a drop down workbench with a 12v fume hood over it for cooking. A 1000watt inverter as well as a 30 amp hookup for shore power. Solar panels on the roof to charge the 12v batteries. So you can run it off a generator, shore power, or plug it into the inverter to run off the 12v batteries.

There are a couple 12v lights and the fume hood is 12v as well so you don’t have to run AC power all the time. These pics are with the AC power hooked up.

When it cools back down im adding a small winch up front.

First coat done. 1 gallon will barely be enough.

I got the tie downs installed. I put in 8 of them. They are rated at 2,000lbs each and have large backing plates.
I was able to sandwich the crossmember with the backing plate on 6 of them. Should be more than adequate for Dirtbikes and Quads.

Found these cool little things to hold the foam board insulation to the bottom of the trailer.

What's the theory on roof coating? It looks like the stock roof was mill finish aluminum skin, which I would think is pretty reflective. Is the white coating more heat reflective or is it a sealing deal?

Hell if I know.
But they say it’s supposed to insulate a bit. I like it mostly because it’s finish feels a bit like rubber. So the rain won’t sound as bad and it will seal. Also hopefully help with water stains running down the side.

It’s better than it was I suppose.

I almost forgot about his thread! I noticed on the roof, there seems to be some gaps along the corner trim molding. If those are indeed gaps, they'll surely leak. Something you may want to take a look at.

For the undercarriage, be careful which foam insulation you install. Some absorb water and some don't. I would consider installing the appropriate insulation up between the frame rails, and then I would take the time to completely close in the insulation from below. I would use aluminum sheet installed over the bottom of the frame rails and insulation to try and protect everything (Like a belly pan). Depending on where you are or where you may go, rodents could quickly get into your insulation and ruin your hard work. Closing the insulation off completely would prevent that and help keep any moisture kicked up while towing, from entering through the bottom of the trailer. Just my .02. 👍

Thanks for the comments.

I am planning on sealing the underbelly. See post #5 That’s he same stuff they put under RV’s when they enclose them for the artic package.

I am paying attention to moisture getting at the underbelly. To help that I’m flipping the axle to lift it about 4-6 inches. That should keep me from dragging it through any puddles or snow. Combine that with the enclosed underbelly I don’t see much water getting in but I will be paying attention to it.

Regarding gaps in the roof. It sure does look
Like it from the picks but it’s just a sloppy job of sealing from the factory. Looks like hell but there are no holes. It sat in the rain at my buddies house and he checked it often and saw nothing.

I have washed it a few times and ran the hose on the roof and saw nothing.

When I pull the plywood off to insulate the walls we will look for daylight.

Hope to get it lifted this weekend if I orders the right flip kit lol

Only selling to buy Walts enclosed.
Walt might be able to tow your little one as a second trailer behind his ToyHauler. Have you asked if he is interested in a trade plus cash

I won’t be hauling my trailer out there that would defeat the savings on Walts trailer.

I could drop by Walts when I pick up my truck and head home.
3 trips back and forth is a lot of fuel money.

Not to mention he isn’t going to pay $6200 for a 12’ when he is selling a 24’ for $7500 lol

Had some black paint laying around. Figured it could hurt to give it a coat before I seal it up in a few weeks.

No eye protection? Somebody call CPS!
No gloves or steel toe boots either.

We live on the edge.

Honestly he was making me a nervous wreck with the Sandals. He didn’t help long as it was hot as hell in there. If he would have stayed he would of had to put some shoes on.

I bought a 16x8 enclosed car hauler from an old man who used to haul his hot rod to car shows.
Fortunately for me… He did alot of work to it.
Re Enforced the rear door to drive cars on it, Insulated walls/roof, new door with window, battery and rigging for gen set, led lights inside/out, vent van, nice storage locker, tie down rails on the floors and walls.

My plan was to do the same as you, use it to haul the toys and camp for a day or two.

But my plans are now changing, because my new KRX1000 is way to tall for the door and it isnt going fit.

Therefore I will be putting mine up for sale in the near future, just havent had the time to post pics and details yet.

But I will post it on RDP first, to give yall first dibs.

It tows perfectly, I made several trips from Murrieta to Reno with it, when we moved…

Just have the entry door left to insulate.

Bed rails are in. So that’s a head start and building the beds. The rest is easy.

To tired and hot to roll out the shearing to enclose the bottom maybe next weekend.

looking Good man, any noticeable difference you can tell standing inside with blocking the heat ? Damn things are ice boxes in the winter time without the insulation. Great upgrade 👍🏼
