Engine Builders Warranty question
I had a new 509 engine built by a local IE shop and experienced engine builder that has been in business for about 40 years.
The motor had very good parts like JE 9:1 pistons, Carrillo rods, Dart Pro 1 heads, Crane 741 cam, Lightning exhaust and a 500 efi w/AZ Speed TB.
Everything was new except the block and the crank which was tested and magnafluxed and polished.
I actually thought I was over building it to have a Whipple put on it next year.
It was dyno'd by Westech Performance with about 550 HP. Nothing crazy.
I supplied most of the parts. About $10k worth. He supplied about $4k worth of parts.
This past weekend was the first time out to Parker. Unfortunately the motor blew up and I had to tow it back to his shop.
I had about 1.5 hours on the motor never passing 4500 RPM.
What is common practice for an engine builder?
Do most stand behind their work and help out what they can or is it just a you know it's a boat and theirs always going to be a problem?
Anyone have any suggestions on experiences they have had?
