I just ordered my full Hydrastar 1600psi kit to get rid of the horrible surge brake system on the Extreme trailer for the Force. I am looking forward to having a boat trailer with out the surge brakes. They are such a pain depending on where you boat, and travel to. Do any of you have pictures of where you mounted your equipment?
I will be i stalling the actuator equip, welding on a new adjustable 2 5/16 coupler, packing all bearings, installing new bearing buddies, and new brake pads. Total overhaul.
I got the whole kit, and HD coupler shipped for just under $1k. And around $250 for pads, grease seals, bearing buddies, and the couple flex lines that were just about worn through from rubbing the torsion bolt. Not to bad.

I mounted my actuator on top of the tongue right between the coupler and the trailer jack. Built a 6x6 alum. box to house all the wiring and CAM. Mounted it on the port side of the tongue. What vehicle are you using? Do you have a factory built in controller or aftermarket?
Couple of pics in this thread.

I have an 08 Chevy 2500. I did order the kit with the CAM since they aren’t compatible with out it. Any issues with getting anything wet when launching?

Very good. Did you get the plug and play system? Mine was so easy to connect. No hard wiring.

Does your 2500 have a factory controller? If so, it works great with the CAM. If not, most aftermarket controllers will work with out the CAM. Mine is on top of the tongue, so it doesn't get wet at all. Carlisle shows you in their videos that you can get it in water, but I don't think it's a good idea. Best to mount it where it is up and away from the water if possible. It is sealed, unlike some other brands, so it may be ok to get it a little wet sometimes.

I wanted mine hidden so I built stoarage boxes with locking lids into my trailer. I louvered the bottom for air flow. Lined them with bed liner and put led lights inside. Works perfect

I decided I am going to install a diamond plate trailer tool box on the tongue. 24x12x12. I will install all of the components index of it, so I know it will be protected from the elements and water from launching, and will give me somewhere to store straps, tools etc...

I got the trailer all finished up last weekend. Diamond plate box mounted, all EOH brake parts inside of it, and got it completely sealed from water on the lower 1/2. Converted the tongue, and lifted the trailer 1” to get the tires to stop rubbing fenders. Tested it this weekend to the lake. My gain has to be set pretty high, compared to my travel trailer electric drum brakes, but it works awesome. Here’s some before and after pics.

Looks good! I’ve been thinking about doing the same thing if my surge brakes give me any trouble in the future. I’ve got them dialed in pretty good now, but I had to fix a bunch of shit a trailer shop screwed up first.
