Excalibur, series 4 mid 80's I believe. Beatuiful, custom built motor car in very good condition. Always garaged, under 17,000 miles, runs and drives great, 350 cu. In. SBC, automatic, nice leather interior, new battery, good tires, no dents, scratches etc.
What are these things worth? Pretty rare in this good of condition.

Nice leather interior? How did the seats get worn that badly in 17,000 miles?

I've never considered an Excalibur a legitimate luxury vehicle. It's more like a kit car.

A kit car? That is custom built by a very highly respected engineer, designer and auto manufacturer?
I guess maybe we found a void in your knowledge of things rrrr.....lol

Built in Goleta CA, next to the Airport. I remember nosing around there in the early 80's.

The earlier ones used MG Midget windshield/wipers/doors... maybe the whole cockpit.

Grand Marquis chassis or LTD from what I remember, empty shells were left after driveline removed.

This one appears to be all GM with a Ford ignition switch in the dash.

To get top money that thing needs a thorough cleaning and detail.

I'm well aware of the history of Excalibur. Their "custom" builds have included Volkswagen bug taillights and Studebaker chassis, and the more recent cars were assembled using more than 75% of parts purchased from GM and similar sources. I don't consider them as an automobile manufacturer, the production started and stopped several times and the cars were pretty much hand built, not manufactured.

I've never accepted the idea that a fiberglass bodied car built with purchased parts and intended to mimic a Mercedes SSK is a legitimate exotic or collector vehicle. Don't confuse stating my opinion with a lack of knowledge.

These prices SHOCK me. But then again, asking price and selling price are two different things.

My personal opinion, I have NEVER understood the allure of these things. They are ugly and slung together from a bunch of other parts as @rrrr has stated.
For this one by OP, you'd have to pay me to take it away. Debate about history and collectability aside this car does NOT have a nice leather interior. There is a good reason it only has 17k miles, nobody wants to drive it.

Mike weaver (ex heavy weight champ) had one when I was a kid in diamond bar. I don’t remember if it had a boxer or glove hood ornament. Seemed cool when I was a kid. lol

Agreed, it would benefit from a good cleaning.
I think the darkness of the seat is from shadowing and it doesn't show well in these pix. If you look at the forward side of the passenger seat, the portion in the light, you can see the true color of the leather and that indicates the effect of the light shaddow to me.
The price on the white '83' model 4 sure does not represent a "kit car".

My Dad and Step mother lived in Diamond Ridge Up the hill from the 76 Gas Station which I worked at back in the mid 80's. I grew up in Brea. I believe Mike Weaver lived in The Country however I don't remember him coming in the 76 for full service however I am fairly certain we worked on that car of his more than once. My DAD was super into any kind of fights and got ON TV just to order and party away.

I was born in Long Beach, we moved to diamond bar when I was still a kid. Grew up in DB, my ex wife was from diamond ridge, along with a bunch of buddies. I was over by grand, up behind I think it was Safeway back then. Weaver was up grand below the country on coyote springs end of the cul de sac. My buddy grew up just down the street from weaver and still lives there. I’m sure we crossed paths back then. I use to go to 76 all the time for minor repairs on my mini trucks. If I recall they did smogs there. My trucks all had crazy motors, dual side drafts, trd race shit, straight piped etc. Magically they always passed, lol

That's because Joe (owner) would help out any kid.

I am still fairly certain we worked on his car but were talking 80's and my memory is pretty shit unfortunately. I got held up at 10 pm one night doing a brake job on a customer car. What an ordeal that was. D-Bar Union / Unocal was one of the few places to get autos worked on at the south end of Diamond Bar.

About 1/2 way up Cold Springs on the view side was my parents house. My sister graduated from D-Bar high.

89 or 90. She did her Jr and Sr year there, kicked out of my moms house in Brea for dropping acid and being gone multiple days in a row. My Step sister kept her glued down.

So before Joe bought that station he owned a big station at Imperial Hwy and St College in Brea. That's how I met Joe.
He sold that station and acquired the D-Bar station. I did full service fill ups and wrenched cars in the evening. I was 18/19 at the time. They had or maybe still do a big lot up in Diamond Ridge in the back with a granny Mobile placed in the front yard. If I remember right they would foster kids.

Little Joe was his son that you probably knew. He had a Red Ranchero.

That plaza...Thrifty's and the Alpha Beta. Kind of cool to pull up the memories.

Shiiiiiiiit, I was 90, and if she got booted for partying, odds are I do know your sister, lol
Joe ended up at the station across from DBHS ( helping the service garage ) after they sold or got pushed out, I don’t remember why they closed.
Brea so you prolly know community tire, Roger (owner) Cam (used to be main tire sells guy ) grandpa Dave ( head mechanic ) I still go there , Roger is like family

If I remember right Joe was pushed into selling. Some unfriendly folks took over and gave Unocal what they wanted I guess.

That was a Chevron he landed at on Pathfinder. I did not talk with him much after 89 or so. May parents house caught fire and they moved into a rental behind the alpha beta while insurance rebuilt that house. Aluminum core wiring and all those houses have it. After that they never moved back and bought a flip house in the country.
Joe was driving home and saw the fire, stopped, and starting hosing it until the Fire Dept. got there. Truly a great dude.

I knew community tire but not personally.

Leather is cracked and the carpets are dirty and or stained. The wrenches left on the carpet scream this thing is a broken or soon to be broken nightmare.

FYI; These were built on a Pontiac Grand Prix chassis and sold by a few Pontiac dealers. And yes, made in Cali. Not a kit car, but sort of in a way yet professional made. Not a great deal of collectible value, but if maintained will hold value. My 2 cents.
