For my B-Day a few months ago, my brother got me an RTIC 110 Cooler for the top of the fishing boat to hold fish. We installed the cooler this past Friday and went fishing Saturday. The cooler has been rarely opened and never opened in an aggressive manner.

After we were done with fishing Friday, I opened the cooler to drain the ice.

I notice the cooler is falling apart. Unbelievable.

This is what I sent RTIC and the response I received..... F**K RTIC COOLERS!!!!!!!

Afternoon,
For my B-Day, my brother got me a awesome RTIC 110 as a present!
Unfortunately this one is defected. I had it still in the box until I took it out last weekend to use it. Worked great keeping my food cold! I got back home on Sunday and lifted the top to empty the cooler and noticed the lid is barely holding together ☹. We only opened the lid a few times Saturday for food… Look at the attached pictures. Its cracked on both sides.
I have other RTIC coolers that I have had for a long time with 0 issues. It was sad to see the new 110 with this issue.
How do we go about fixing this defected cooler?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Thank you for reaching out! We apologize this has happened. This is something that can happen when the lid of the cooler is overextended and is not something that is covered under the manufacturing error warranty. We apologize.

Thanks for posting this as I was going to buy the exact same cooler this weekend!!

That’s a bunch of bullshit as you can clearly see that thing is bright white and brand new. Guess I will buying an Orca or a Pelican instead.

I would leave a fish in there for a week or two and then mail it back for shits and giggles.

I also have a Yeti 110 that I use on the fishing boat as well. This Yeti has been incredible! If you can spend a tad bit more, GET THE YETI!

I have a RTIC soft cooler that I won at a Needles V-Drive Show. It hasn't let me down. But FUCK RTIC with their piece of shit 110 that broke the 1st fucking time out and them not standing by their product.

Take a look at ESKY. I believe they were bought by Coleman and may be branded as such. Had one on a houseboat and it was unbelievably good.

I bought a canyon cooler (103qt) last year for my birthday and I love it.

It is heavy as balls when loaded and kind of big for storage though...lol

Ever think that maybe you or a buddy opened it and overextended it and didn’t realize it ?

Kind obvious it didn’t break by itself

Or, was it done previous to your brother buying it? Was packaging (if there was any) from factory? I wonder if somebody else owned it and returned it or if somebody over extended it while looking at it in the store.

I see the manufacturer's point of view regarding the warranty and not covering "user error" but on the other hand their cooler should be built well enough to handle an over-extension once in a while.

I have a couple of these coolers. I’m pretty damn strong but They’re to damn heavy once loaded with ice & drinks.

I don’t use the big one. If I did I’d need a fuckin dolly to move it around.

I've had nothing but great luck with RTIC products, I have their hard and soft coolers. I only take their soft sides on the boat though, the big guys stay at camp.

Def sucks that they wont fix it for you.

I’m picking up Igloo’s new IMX 70 for $200. Gonna give it a try.

Did great on the 8 day ice challenge and I don’t need a $400 cooler that weighs 40 lbs dry or a Yeti sticker for my truck window :D. The other alternative is to just look on Craigslist, lots of folks selling new high end coolers with the tags still on.

Stay away from Yeti if you like the second amendment. They did some real BS then have tried removing it and lying about it after the fact. Still desperately trying to lie their way out of the predicament after over a year.

What a waste of money. His friends bought for his birthday .
Doesn't keep ice any longer then a cheap big 5 beer basket .

And it wasn't even that hot and in the shade.

It would take a lot of torsion to do that kind of damage. Standard usage in an upright position would make it very difficult to generate enough force to do that without the cooler tipping back and over. One way I could see this happen is if the cooler is turned upside down with the lid open and downward force is applied, or if it were dropped with the lid open and it landed face first.

Are you SURE the damage wasn't there from the time you opened the cooler?

It's a result of several drunken sailors that broke it with brut force then made warranty claims.
To RTIC you are now just one of them brutes.

These coolers are not any better than a cheap one if you going to be in and out of it all day.
These high end coolers shine on long camping trips or hunting trips when ice isn’t readily available or you need long term storage without constant access to contents.

If anyone buys these for a day on the lake you are a ding dong IMO.

Besides they are heavy ass f*ck

Bad design. Weakest part of any cooler and look how thin the plastic is. And the hinge is molded into the lid. you have to replace the whole lid instead of just a hinge when it breaks.
Is there anything to support the lid when it’s open?

Weird Wally World shows 300 on line, ace hardware 199 for the IMX

IMX is the new line so I’m told.
I’m still running a 20 year old Coleman that was $25.

LOL All of a sudden I need a cooler that will survive a fall out of my truck going 90 mph and then get attacked by a 2,000 lb bear. I consider myself dam lucky the past 59 years that I’ve somehow been able to dodge that bullet :D

They had a pallet full of them in Parker. Maybe I got the price wrong in my melon.
You're probably right.
Ill check it again next week.

55 quart Just discounted to $97.

The 77 Quart is $147:

Walmart is supposed to have a good warranty.

My only criteria for a ice chest is the top is attached and the big ones have a drain.
Our cheap-o Igloos have been pretty good.

The only way I see that happening, is if you where using the lid as a diving board. No way that would happen with normal use. Even if you were over extending it.

Made in the USA was a prerequisite for my last cooler. I came down to Pelican or Orca. The handle and wheels made the Pelican take up too much space. Settled on an Orca 75. Really pleased with it.

I just got the cooler 1.5 months ago. It has been in a box until last week when It went onto my fishing boat. Myself or my brother did not aggressively open the lid of the Cooler. It only had 1 day of use on it prior to breaking.

I've had my Yeti 110 for 3 years now. It is been opened up and down 1000's of times and traveled all over.

So to answer your question... Fuck No. RTIC is a piece of shit!

Maybe you should call customer service and speak to someone with some pull.

Look at it from their point of view and explain your side of the situation. It’s all in the approach.

Or complain on RDP

Aimee sounds like a level 1 customer service agent. Her response sounds like a typical deflection. I'd imagine that if you follow up and assure her that no such over-extension happened, and escalate to her manager you will get some results.
