1969 Lotus Cortina. Twin cam 1.6 Liter with dual side draft Webers and factory tube headers. Would run low 15 sec. quarter miles, handled like a slot car and still got around 25 mpg.

In 1992 I walked out to my high school parking lot after my baseball game to see a flat bed trailer being towed by my dads El Camino with a 1973 Nova on it. Pops said “it’s all yours”. My excitement was quickly extinguished as I found out it had no running gear. Little did I know the project that ensued would be the foundation of what our relationship is today. We built a 383 stoker 12:1, dropped in a built TH350, Ford 9” with 4:56 etc. Saturday’s and Sunday’s at LACR. Friday nights at Kevin’s Burgers, Roxford, Canoga and Lassen, Terminal Island. Constantly wrenching and tinkering in high school auto shop. Car got me in some trouble (even more trouble for my parents) but I wouldn’t change a thing.

Well we were at Kevin's and all the other places at the same time. Kevin's popped up in another thread about a year ago and was surprised how many peeps from here were there, if we all got together I would probably start recognizing faces. Those were good times except the pool hall shooting across the street and the drive by shooting a couple months earlier, the idiots that did the drive-by shooting we're aiming so damn high nothing was hit except for buildings, glad they had bad aim while holding the gun sideways out the window of their white Acura Integra.

Remember the B&D Mustangs parking across the street from Kevin’s at the gas station? It was old school vs new school posturing. LOL.

1st car was a K code 65 mustang. Towed with a rope out of LaPuente...I was 14. I got it running again, but life happens. When I was almost 16, I sold it. I did a bit more than break even, but gave the extra to my parents.
First actual driver was an 84 Nissan Sentra Wagon. Bought it from my parents for the 1500 the dealer would give them for trade in...wrapped it around a pole in the rain.
The first two of many. Some years I bought and sold as many as 5. Now maybe one a year...sometimes less. The cars are getting better for my drivers, so I keep them a lot longer. The cars I fix up now are better too, but now they take much longer. Used to be whatever had a bad head gasket, fix and flip. Now it's body and frame, and start building.

Those were the fast mustang's, they even helped me hustle some money with my truck, I absolutely stomped on mustang's and cobras, Z28's would get me by 1/2 a car heads up, I would beat stock mustang's by 4-5 cars stock cobras by 2. It was always fun talking them into 2 cars of space and then extending it to 6 cars by the finish line, they never had a chance to close the gap. LOL

61 Impala, Blue Flame 6, but not for long!

Bought 61 Bel Air, 283 rated PG. The 283 ended up in the Impala, along with a PG from a 64 (aluminum instead of iron). We did it all in my buddy’s garage with a floor jack and come along. Kept us out of trouble.

Rounded out high school with 73 Chev one ton from AZ, and a 66 Chevelle that I totaled senior year, replaced with a 68, year i was born.

Got another 61 I dragged home from GA in my buddy Crash’s shed waiting for the 11:1 409” AFR aluminum headed small block, it’ll get worked on once the StressEliminator is finished.

Ok, no one had this 1959 Peugeot 304! It had 4 on the tree and a four-cylinder hemi engine. Kept it about two years until someone rear ended me and totaled it. No biggie because I only paid $50 for it and put a battery in it.

I was fortunate, my dad bought a new 1970 FJ-40 when I was almost 15 to go elk hunting and explore southern Colorado 4WD trails and ghost towns. It was purchased for family adventures, but when I got my license a few months later was "my car" on an everyday basis.

Dad let me put big wheels and tires on it and helped me build a roll bar. In winter my parents let me drive up to Durango with friends to ski at Purgatory. It was a great vehicle.

Those original Land Cruisers were hell for stout, and the torque of the 235 CI inline six was great for 4WD in the mountains. Chevrolet sold all of the tooling for the 235 to Toyota in the early 60s, and they converted it to metric measurements.

I always had a laugh picturing GM execs rubbing their hands in glee and saying "Can you believe those Japanese dumbasses bought that obsolete engine? We actually got good money for it".

Twenty five years later, Toyota was kicking GM's ass. GM was building the shitbox X cars like the Chevy Citation, and Toyota was just hitting their stride. A few years after that, the Camry became the best selling sedan in the US, now they're the largest car manufacturer on the planet.

My 1965 Malibu SS is the first car I purchased with my own money (still have it) but this was the 1973 3/4 ton that was technically my first vehicle. I punched the 454 out to 468, raised compression to 9.5:1, ported the heads, healthy cam, Torker intake with a 750 Holley, MSD ignition and long tube headers. It was one heavy hot rod and the first vehicle I ever painted. Those white jeans tho....:D

My first car was a 1970 Chevelle, Man i drove the shit out of that thing, I remember getting new tires from Sears that had a 7k mile warranty i put 1500 miles on them and they were bald. got new tires but they refused to give me a warranty on the new ones, something about them being abused, pissed me off so when i pulled out of the bay i did a big burnout in the parking lot. ( no one ever accused me of being the smartest one back then)

After I totaled my Sentra, dad let me drive my great-aunts Citation. It actually wasn't a bad little car. It had the 2.6 liter V6, pretty good power for the time. We all drove that car off and on until the late 90s when my brother sold it. Still had the original trans and engine and most everything still worked.

Edit... Which reminds me, I had girl friend at the time that had one with the Iron Duke 4 and a manual transmission. And not the good Duke with the cross flow head, I doubt that thing had more than 60hp at the wheels.

'63 Sedan DeVille. Paid $350 in '77 and drove it home from Crested Butte, where I had spent the summer, to SoCal. Driver's window was stuck down. I remember taking a date out in it in the rain and I draped a towel over the door. Taillights never worked so I rode the brakes at night.

I like old VW's and bought a 1970 Karmann Ghia coupe. I went to a dry concert at the University of British Columbia. The cops checked people for booze. Herd cops asking "any alcohol" to other cars. They come to mine: "Got any drugs?" asks the cops...……………………………….

Used 1960 Chevy Impala. Put 100k miles on it and traded it in for a nearly new 1965 Chevy Impala SS, white with black vinyl top and black interior. Beautiful car. First month I had it some drugged out ass hole smashed into it while it was parked. Got it fixed, but it was never the same. Although, I did put 100k mile on that car also.

(not mine internet pic(
So my first car was a 1991 Eagle Talon Tsi awd 5 speed. , midnight blue. Bought it in 1992, sophmore in HS. Wanted fast and reliable no matter if it was dry or 6” snow. I kept that car for 9 years sold it with 364k on it. Back then especially in the midwest the import thing was not a thing, so I bought a 92 lx 5.0 in 1994 as my drag/summer car.

Fast forward to 2008 I got the itch to revisit the import thing. Bought a 1992 Tsi Awd 5spd all stock only 39k on it. Brought it home ripped it apart and spent stoopid money on it, to make it scoot. I painted it myself as maroon was unsat, first paint job ever. The car was a real hoot to drive and hauled the mail, but I was over it less than a year after completion. A buddy was happy to buy it from me....so off she went.

1968 GTO hard top 400HO auto, spring mist green, black top and guts.

Never should have sold it.

Some crappy pics of it from an album my brother kept circa 1984. With the white walls and dog dish hubcaps,
it was a sleeper.

The 360hp HO motor with auto, fixed headlights, power windows, color, and white turn lights on the fenders were all rare options.

First car was a truck, '76 Suburban that my Dad gave me, only after I built a motor for it. Big block, TH400, 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive 4.10 posi, Scottsdale trim. It had cruise control and ac front and rear and a power tailgate window. Other than that, manual windows and locks, vinyl seats and rubber floor. I absolutely loved that truck and have looked for others to replace it. I currently own 2 other square body trucks lol

Looked just like this
582cdc54331cc.jpg

An AT&T F-450 service truck totaled it when he pulled away from the right shoulder to make a u-turn in front of me one day on my way home from school..........

Motor, trans, exhaust, lift, wheels and tires had all been done and I was saving for interior, paint and body work. That truck also brought home my first boat, I can post those pics later.
Pics of pics to go with my first post

1988 Chevy 1500 regular cab short bed 4 x 4 fleet side. Totaled it when a guy pulled out in front of me and had no where to go. Got an '87 Grand National after that...3 tickets in 4 months and it had to go. Went to a '90 Chevy 1500 regular cab short bed 4 x 4 step side and have been in trucks ever since.

72 el camino was my first car. Still have it but it needs some work. I remember in high school my group of friends all had muscle cars; 72 el camino, 67 camaro, 72 baracuda, 70 nova, and a 67 el camino. Does't sound too impressive but this was in 2006 so it was pretty uncommon and made for some good times.

1970 Mustang Mach 1. Seems like quite a few of us had the same first car. Traded it in on a Toyota 4x4, I know dumb, but oh well live and learn.

1994 Chevy crew cab dually. It was red with a 454. Loved that truck!

Bought a green lowered one for my husband for Valentine's day this year, and I'm pretty sure I drive it more!
