You’re probably going to want to mount that mid the rest of the way up. Generally, those 3L cases like being propshaft center 1-1/4” to 1-3/4” above boat bottom.

With the measurements you provided, with jackplate fully raised, propshaft is 5/8” above. Each hole is 3/4”, so raising it will put you at 1-3/8” above at full extension.

Great job on progress!
So raise it all the way up? I just put it back where it was when I bought the boat but never did drive it so if your sure that’s the best starting point I can raise it up.

So I’m not sure why I thought the carpet removal was going to go smooth…4 hours later and thanks to my oscillation tool it’s ready for new carpet.

Shame to cover that nice balsa work but the layup looks like it was always meant to have carpet.

Carpet install will have to wait till Friday when I can have more time.

Sure looks like it, and if your numbers are correct that’s the math.

Realize that it’s for best top speed, and your jackplate will go down a bit for holeshot and rough water, probably midway for cruising.

Easier to do it now then when it’s complete so I’ll add it to the list this week. Have no clue where to start for prop. In a perfect world I would like one for pulling the kids in the tube and top speed but will end up with 2 I imagine.

You WILL end up with more than 2 props. This is an addiction. Just say, my name is Fonz and I love boating

Moved it up 1 more hole and that’s as far up as it goes, gives my steering a little more room also when it’s all the way down so should be a win win.😎

Well the carpet is installed and if there is ever a next time to carpet a tunnel hull boat I will be subcontracting this sticky pain in the a$$ part out.

It looks like you are using a 2.5 clamp/trim bracket with a 3L center section. Make sure that when fully trimmed in the the center section does not make contact with the big anode that is on the bottom of the clamp. Sometimes there are clearance issues and some modifications may be needed to anode. Guy on S&F just found this out is why I brought it up.

When I was trying to figure out how to take the powerhead off I pulled up on a hose and heard a snap…well that was the tell tail water pump discharge nozzle snapping. Where I was purchasing random parts for this motor this nozzle is said to be unavailable even though I’m sure someone sells them I figured might as well make a sturdier replacement.

Getting closer each day.
Breaker and relay for Aeromotive fuel pump.

So with the aftermarket fuel pump now and running a return regulator I needed a way to return the fuel to the same tank it was drawing from. This fuel valve sure made the wallet lighter but seems to be well made.

Hoses and wiring connected, just waiting for a piece of angle coming Monday so I can make a bracket to mount the fuel/water separator and connect the last lines.

Regulator that will be mounted on the powerhead.

When this boat was revamped previously they added these car hood hinges to make the rear hatch lift and stand vertically. I like the idea but couldn’t stand how they used drywall screws and janky hardware. Also painted everything black to help match the overall color schem.

Heading to MI Saturday to get the powerhead repaired and back in shape.
I can almost hear the rpm’s screaming now!

Well it was a little disheartening to receive my aluminum angle yesterday I ordered. “Made in the USA” doesn’t seem to mean what it used to be unfortunately.
DAE5995D-26C8-48E8-8073-B2BD2CD183C0.jpeg

On a positive note I reached out to Mcmaster Carr who replied saying they were going to refund me and contact their vendor so let’s hope this improves in the future.
Anyway I heated it up and made a 90 out of the section I needed.

So yes due to limited space and how everything layed out I chose to use 1 90 degree fitting, it however is a quality “Earls” and is -8 to the pump inlet so my hope is that upsize will make up for the fitting.

Block is off to the machine shop. Sleeve gets cut out today or tomorrow, hole gets welded up.

Box of goodies.

A little trailer work while the motor is being gone through.
Originally the trailer had a jack near the tongue but at some point it was cut off and a rotating one was added farther back that would cause the frame to twist.

Cut out the remaining section of old jack pipe.

Took apart the replacement jack and ground off the old bracket and fit it to the trailer.

Little welding…

And some paint.

Nothing too exciting but a little work on the trailer. Had to replace one hub after finding the bearings rusted, I’m amazed it made it home😬. Attempted to press in new races in the old hub and the loud pop was not the race seating but the hub cracking…..🤦🏻‍♂️ Not my day but Napa at least appreciated the business.
98D31A1C-0E18-4618-8FFF-9D9D34D334F4.jpeg

Trailer isn’t in the worst shape and is original to the boat, actually found where they welded “21 Daytona” on the bottom of the frame.
But the rusty areas bothered me.
DFE2FF4F-36A1-4937-A5FB-11D54ECC6C66.jpeg

Little better now and added a light bar in the middle and boat buckle tie downs.
51F36417-D60A-4FFA-94EE-5DE5D8E1AACA.jpeg

During welding of the replacement jack the already rough trailer tag got a little scorched.
I was able to make a replacement, laminate it and stick it over the original.

Block is back at the welders to fix a couple small issues. Next day is for straightening out Mercs crappy reed cages and getting a set of close weight matched rods cleaned up.

Travel day tomorrow to rescue some 50's vintage Mercs. Saturday afternoonish there should be noise. All kinds of static tests to do as I never found a definitive cause of death, oil pump output, check valve test, ignition tests, etc etc.

One more of the offending hole that has been welded up and being cut for the sleeve.

So the cage itself distorts? By "lapping" I assume the cages? Interesting. Has nobody made a billet replacement? Just curious.

The rubber coating swells from the fuel. We are working on billet cages. Hoping to have them ready mid summer.

Every wounded motor has it's tale to tell, or sometimes several. Initial cause of death was revealed in a most pain in the ass kind of way. #6 exhaust runner in the chest is porous and leaking water in the glue seam. So back apart, I have to make a plate to isolate the exhaust side to pressurize the chest. After 30-40 seconds of idling it would drop #6, pulled the head and the water trail was pretty obvious. It won't leave until it's right, and not my first battle with styrofoam blocks.

Sorry you have to disassemble, but glad you found it and is fixable.

Nice work!

Well made it back from picking up the powerhead and drive. It’s been a busy weekend so far and if all goes well possible launch tomorrow if the weather cooperates.

Put 20 gallons of premium in each tank and about fell over watching the dollar signs roll by on the pump 😳 The price of fun….

Anyway going to run it on the hose and check everything over in the driveway before the maiden voyage.
