The tenant is gonna take the cash, not pay AGAIN, and then ride out 6 more months of tenants rights as the landlord foots the bill and rides it out till the end. I don’t know how the hell they are going to track who paid and who didn’t. Not everyone has the same rent. So some will get paid to much some not enough.

With the tax credit you will get half based on your 2019 taxes to get the 2nd half you need to file for 20'. Haven't herd anything about owning it back once you file for 21' if you made over.

For the Child Tax Credit they will start sending next month you should be able to do on the treasury website and opt out of the monthly payments so it stays as a tax credit at the end of the year. that is what i am doing.

The way I read the Child Tax Payments set to begin July through Dec is an advance on 2021 return. The max per child increases to $3000 (from $2000). So, they are basically paying out 50% of the $3000/per child from Jul to Dec 2021.

I think post #30 is saying the same thing.

I have never ,nor ever will get any kind of payment from the govt. in regards to stimulus or otherwise since I was a go getter

But let’s remember the first round of PPP loans had 0 accountability either.

The whole system is flawed on both sides of the financial spectrum, and most of us here are funding it with 0 in return.

My tax guy relayed the story of one of his clients that got the second PPP loan(owns 4 gas stations) and had to show 20% loss for the year in revenue. The guy said that was easy to show during the first covid quarter/lockdown. He didn’t have to explain the profit he made later in the year.

He then asked my tax guy to try to work the numbers so his kids could get stimulus checks.

Some may say that is okay (kids getting checks when the parent makes over $400k)

I say it’s ethically wrong when it’s taxpayer money.

In the end it”s no worse than paying off the rent.
