What made you pick the Factory 5?

My buddy Eric delivers for them!

It was built to use a foxbody mustang as a donor and after my September incident I happen to have a good donor with a 400hp 5.0 as well as some other miscellaneous components that needed a new home

My driver was Kelly

I gotta see the instruction book that came with this thing. Do you have to verify that you have all pieces before you start wrenching? Looks like a shit load of fun!

Cool project. I have alternator and power steering mounts, along with a compact power steering pump that might work for you

Those are some pretty parts! But this car is going to be manual steering, manual brakes, and I already have a nice black billet alternator-only vbelt pully and bracket kit

Sounds good, I'd do a manual rack in that as well. Make sure you run the right gear on the distributor for that roller cam.

I think I saw a BBk intake on the motor. You can probably get a little money for that.

Good luck on the build, I look to watching the progress

Havent gotten to work on her a whole lot over the break like I had hoped I'd be able to, some of my suspension components are still on back order.

However on the brighter side, all of my engine components are here so I brought my engine home from the shop today after sweet talking a guy at firestone into giving me a takeoff tire. I've got her mostly stripped, cleaned, and ready for paint. But thats a project for another day when the new timing cover and oil pan goes on. Progress.

Alright here we go.... a buddy did one of these builds in around 2005... I think it was Factory 5... there was a group in Anaheim that'd build ya one ground up for around $70K or go the hands on cheaper approach and he chose Factory 5. He had just retired and I watched him spend maybe 8 hours/ day in his garage putting this thing together. He was a PHD Pepperdine guy with no mechanical expertise so we all laughed but damn if that steering wheel wasn't snug between my knees in a year. Did the 1988 Mustang 5.0 donor like you... sent the engine out to get tweaked and then things like body, interior and trans started arriving. He went with the silver body/ twin black stripes look and boy did it turn heads in Laguna Beach. It was artwork and had some serious punch off a traffic light. Get wide ass tires on that rear end!

This is essentially my build plan, cosmetically anyway. I am going to add 1/4" pinstripes to the outside of the racing stripes though and am also going with 15" grey halibrand replicas for wheels.
Tires will be Cooper Cobra GTs, white letters out in 235/60R15 and 295/50R15

Im outfitting it with the best brakes i can fit inside of those 15" wheels (a cross between 93 cobra, 86 svo, and sn95 brakes).

My dual piston Wilwood's work pretty good, and Halibrand is definitely the way to go for wheels. Keep the pics coming.

BTW, I am currently running MT Drag Radials, and they are the best tire I have run so far. Getting traction but having a tire that is not too sticky and slinging rocks everywhere was hard to find. The MT's are a good middle ground and the rears stick pretty good when you lay into the throttle.

I had the option but wanted the 15"s per the original cars which Wilwoods will not fit under. However I did opt for the 5lug versions with lug covers. I didn't want the what if of always having to check the knockoffs

I have safety wire on the knockoffs and am currently running 17's. 15's will definitely give you the original look...

Nice color scheme.... can't really go wrong as the lines are so classically beautiful. I've never seen an ugly one. Glad you opted for side pipes... be sure to get the heat guards.... all the gals and older types get burned otherwise. And those 50s on the rear are crucial.... the power/ weight ratio is something to behold. These things are all beef and no fat. Get to work, plenty to do as I recall ... took my friend a solid year all in.

Well. The plan was to get the long block assembled and painted this weekend and then dress the engine. But sometimes new parts that say they fit, dont.

Maybe I'll splurge for a fabricated oil pan now?? Idk

I ultimately decided to go with a gold fabricated rear sump pan. A little more hot rod and a little less stockish. What the hell, I always considered myself a retrorodder anyway. Not to be confused with restomods, fuck that shit

I've also been playing with some license plate ideas. Gloria's California plate number on a traditional Texas plate (less one digit to stay with 60s number sequencing)

What are the deatails of the rear end?
and what did it cost you?

Moser 4link 8.8 with US gears 3.55:1 ford style trac-lok rearend. All brand new heavier duty components, not rebuilt. $2,700 shipped to my door i think is what I was invoiced.

Considering I didn't know the condition of my 150,000 mile rear end after the accident and I was going to be spending $1,500 freshening it up and converting it to 5lug disc even if it was good, this just seamed like a no brainer

"PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The M88 from Moser Engineering is a brand new and improved performance version of the original 8.8" Ford. We have taken the highly refined 8.8 and turned it into a High Performance rear for those needing the compactness of the 8.8 along with the gear selection of aftermarket OEM and OEM gears still available. The completely brand new Moser M88 rear utilizes the 8.8 ring gear on the highly successful OEM 8.8 but adds some major improvements over the stock 8.8 housing. It starts with using the same premium nodular steel Moser has used in the industry leading Moser 12 Bolt and Moser 60 rear end assemblies. It was then reinforced with additional material and webbing in the areas the previous unit lacked. The smaller factory axle tubing has been replaced with Made in the USA 3" x 1/4" wall seamless DOM steel tubes. CNC manufactured Premium Moser Housing Ends that gives you the option of retaining a c-clip or going the preferred press on versized bearing for retention and safety. We also include Heavy Duty Moser oversized main caps to help direct the forces exerted against the main caps back into the casting and the performance cover when used. Improved oiling of bearings and cooling of the gear set and carrier help increase life of all the parts. These are available for any 1979-2014 Mustang applications, kit cars like the Factory Five applications to street rods.
They can also be purchased as housings alone, housing and axle packages or as a complete MusclePak crate rear.

MADE IN THE USA...TRACK TESTED IN THE USA"

I just wrecked my first car tonight. Hit a deer tonight doing about 100 according to my cluster. I took it head on and it lifted me up off the ground. I then slid sideways for about 1/4 mile, at one point into a trench and then back out. Pretty sure I tagged a sign with my drivers door at some point too before coming to a stop. In of all places, a hospital parking lot. Im covered in glass and pretty pissed off right now. A whole lot of memories died tonight.

The mother fucker was just lying down in the middle of the highway. Fully alert and shit.

I built a Factory Five Mk II roadster in the mid 2000s. What a fun project. I did it all myself, even the body and paint. I sold it a couple years after completion. I'm thinking about building another someday as it was so much fun. Mine had a 5.0 out of a '85 mustang so it was a 4 barrel/5 speed.
