How does that happen? He likely walked off the beach, heart attack? Passed out drunk? Bizarre.

Sad news. This year was first time in my life I experienced a leg cramp while swimming in the lake. Before that I always wandered what caused people to drown it was scary shit. Now I always swim in the lake with a life jacket or floaty that I sit on. Kids have to have their life jackets on as well nothing would ruin the spirit of the lake more than a family member or friend drowning.

Closest I ever came to drowning was in college...got a leg cramp in the winter off chuns reef in hawaii. It was awful, and it turned me off for about a year from it. Its no joke.

Garrett was a member of the LHC paddle community and open ocean race team. I last trained with Garret in February 2021 paddling from Topoc to Rotary park. He was a strong paddler, a great swimmer and an aspiring photographer. I have not heard the details behind this tragic event and still can’t believe the horrific news. RIP Garrett. You will be missed. Paddle On.

Would have never guessed for a guy with that background would have issues drowning in the channel. RIP

I got a leg cramp too in winter, new years eve to be exact. We were surfing down south in Mexico near La Fonda and luckily I had my board to hold on to. That was brutal pain. Girls on the beach thought I got bit by a shark since I was screaming so loud in pain.

To my fellow RDP member. Thank you for reaching out to me today. Words cannot express the sorrow I have for the loss of your son and our hearts and this community hurt with you. Garrett touched each and everyone in the LHC paddling community and he will be deeply missed. I pray these pictures of Garrett from the Lake Havasu City Outrigger Canoe club honoring your son may bring you joy with celebrating Garrett’s life.

Today we mourn the passing of our good friend and fellow paddler Garrett Leland Hansen. Garrett had a heart of gold and was a damn strong paddler. Garrett, we will miss your ever-so-loud and enthusiastic war cry during practices. Thank you for the smiles you left on our faces and in our hearts. Garrett was a friend of the Lake Havasu City Outrigger Canoe Club as well as many paddlers on the lake. Garrett, you will be missed.
As in your art, "Let Your Ancestors Feel Your War Cry; Embrace Their Energy As It Pours Forth." Go get 'em Garrett.
Tomorrow morning we will be stopping under the bridge for a moment of silence for our friend Garrett.

Thank you all!
