What is up with these enormous gas prices. Paid 2.74 for 85 octane in Casper, Wyoming.

The people have been "conditioned" to believe that any drop in fuel price to be a good thing. It's all bullshit. In my opinion, absolutely no reason fuel prices shouldn't be much lower than they are.

The big oil will try excuses such as refinery shutdowns and summer/winter blends cause price hikes. All bullshit.

Currently, there are at least 9 different types of fuels that we deal with. Instead of having summer/winter gases along with different blends for different counties, there needs to be one regular, one premium, and one diesel for everyone. I've probably said too much already, but in the end ... the prices are complete horseshit.

cali and the tree hugger mentality need fluff fuel in summer and some other blend in winter so if there is a shortage we get bent over, was 3.49 wed and by fri it was 4.59.......WTF

Not sure if everyone is aware but our Governor Moonbeam, semi quietly, passed the "Global Warming Fee" not long ago.

It adds roughly 10 cents per gallon to gas and 12 cents per gallon to diesel, but... It's variable!! Somewhere around 2%.

Here's the kicker. It's charged to the wholesalers, by the truck load, instead of at the pump. He can then get away with calling it a fee instead of a tax! It's all bullshit. We're being charged a fucking tax on a tax!

This cost gets passed along to the consumer.

This "tax" has a straight line path to that Piece of shit bullet train in Bakersfield.

Supposedly California has low fuel inventory which is the excuse for our pump prices versus the rest of the nation. I'm not buying that line of crap. California consistently outpaces the country in cost at the pump and it's not because of inventory issues. [emoji107]

I paid $2.41 for light duty diesel at my local QT here in Phoenix on Friday. Who'd ever thought diesel would be cheaper than gas again?

Hank....in case you didn't know... we had an " completely unexpected" fall in gas inventory. Gas is running out. :D Don't say anything buddy, we all know. ;)

I like how its reported as "we had" like were all in this together. LMAO

I counted 12 tankers last Thursday sitting outside the LB breakwater so full they had what looked like 2' of free-board. Seeing this I immediately thought, someone does't want to refine it.

Damn, I had not noticed because diesel has not gone nuts. Why is diesel now $2.99 here in the IE and gas is $4.29?

Last Thursday I filled the MBZ up, Premium at $3.39 @76, Friday evening on my way home it was $4.69, $1.30 over night. Costco and Vons have slightly adjusted their prices. Filled the BMW up this AM at Vons, premium, $3.59. Total bullshit story about shipping a lot of fuel to China and the suppliers let the inventories drop to a dangerously low level, LOL

I am not an expert by any means, but I do work in the industry. There are several contributing factors to this recent hike in spite of the relatively low crude costs. There are several people to blame for what we are feeling in SoCal. Summer blend is a real thing and you get less gasoline out of the barrel of crude, period. That's the first and I think we all accept that, even if most of us doubt whether summer blend is a necessary thing, but its gov'ment imposed so nothing we can do about it living here. Second, some new fees as discussed. And third, the real pisser, refining capacity is california is way down right now, and we can only pump gas that was refined in california during these summer months, so no gulf coast refineries can pick up the slack and get the prices back down. Whether the refineries are working together to create this issue or not I cannot speak to. The refinery explosion of the FCC unit was definitely not planned, but that is hurting yields, and the maintenance scheduled at other refineries is a little suspect to me, but I have no hard facts one way or another. It used to be when gas prices were high, work was good because big oil had a ton of budget to do stuff with us, but not the case now, so I am paying high gas prices and work is sketchy :grumble: Hopefully the situation sorts itself out soon.

Chevellesb is on point. Cali is the only place in the world that requires carbob as a sub grade
As such no one else will refine it as it's too expensive to be competitive. From a macro perspective demand is up but no one is ramping up supply until demand holds. Once it does Opec will ease cuts and prices will fall. I work at chevron in oil trading and were predicting 50s for the year on crude prices.

Paid $3.70 for diesel in Mojave this morning, $4.19 last night in Ridgecrest.

Biden withdrew support for the Yemen war, so Saudis cut back deliveries.
Get used to it until a conservative gets back in office.

Its $1.51 per liter in my hood. That's over $5 per gallon converted. My old town doesn't have a transit tax that I have now. They are 20 cents per liter cheaper. I fill up there. If the border with the US was open, Id be filling up in the states.
