Sounds like it's getting scrapped

Sad. Wish I could have gone by and seen her before she got pulled out. I’m at Ventura harbor several times a year and didn’t realize it moored
there.

That's a shame, you'd think at some price it would make a decent liveaboard somewhere. Not seeing the condition inside though...who knows how bad things are.

Click on the insta - there is a video of the somebody walking the inside of the boat. It didn’t look that bad other than a bunch of stuff piled inside?

If they are going to scrap it, why did they wash the exterior. Makes little sense to me.

Going, going, gone.

Sad end to a once fine yacht.

Twin huge turbo diesels sitting on concrete. Couple big ol generators too.

Looks like two rippers have been tearing her apart for a couple days, grabbing pieces and dumping them into roll offs to be hauled away. Such a shame.

That is a horrible sight! It could have been such a cool setup.

Damn, that's the last pic I wanted to see, the failure and death of it's resurrection.

Sad day.

Would be cool to hop the fence w/ a cordless recip-tool and cut the Gentry Eagle panel out as a souvenir.
Hang it in a bar somewhere.
There’s no fence and I’d bet of you showed up and said you wanted to do that they’d let you. But you best hurry. I suppose they start early in the morning.

Team Archer

Was on the boat about a month ago its too far gone for repair been setting for 25 years when i was there you counldn't tell there was an areson drive on the boat it was covered with barnicals and bird ****. It was still in the water at that time. It was a very sad day for me i was there with a gentelman that was interested in bringing her back to life but was too far gone. Last i talked to norman gentry was that is was going to get scraped. I was lucky enough to have gotten a ride on it back just befor tom had his accident.

Well when I heard it might be going to Long Beach I thought they might tow the Queen Mary out to sea and sink her to make room for this Gentry Eagle. When I heard it had been sitting for 25 years covered in barnacles and bird sh1t, I figured City of Long Beach was the buyer...

If I was closer I'd be cutting that panel out tonight myself.
I'm still just a Hoodlum at heart, but someone should do it . . . it'll be gone forever.
Grab a couple tall-boys and get after it boys ! . . . you'll be a Hero ! 🤘🇺🇸

Such a sad deal. I read about the history of the transatlantic crossings last night. I guess Richard Branson's record setting boat Virgin Atlantic Challenger II, was left to rot also and was in similar condition. Luckily, a wealthy guy saw it, knew the history, and decided to do a full restoration and save her.

Here is a link to a video of her being ripped apart. Bagpipes playing Amazing Grace is a nice touch.

It would have made a cool VRBO place to stay. Even without much rigging. LOL, even on a lot somewhere in town.

It was purchased to salvage the drivetrain and the rest to be scrapped from the very beginning IMO. The whole story of the guy wanting to restore it was a bunch of made-up BS.

Well that's one way to pull motors and drives out. I think wreck it Ralph misunderstood using the excavator to lift the motors and drives not get to the motors now it's definitely too far gone. ☹️

They should change the name to Highly Optimistic.

They best start purchasing allot of pumps. If they fail it will be lost to some salvage outfit that will be following their Instagram page closely.

… Too bad somebody didn’t tow it down to the LA Harbor… Somewhere down where I used to live aboard… That’s where all of the old relics that still float used to end up…

… Worked on a movie for television something like the Humphrey Bogart story???…They needed an old captains gig… I found one in the storage yard up off Aneheim on Henry Ford Ave…
…Up until that came up… I had no idea what a captains gig was???…

This article came out in the local paper yesterday. I thought it was one of the better articles. Writer got ahold of Norm Gentry and really dove into the story instead of just the typical surface crap most of the articles on it are.

Sad to hear that a buyer was trying to get things together to save the boat and only needed a little more time but the harbor was like, NOPE!

Don't know if it's a Vin, and not close to the grueling journey or anywhere near the distance of Gentry's voyage, but the newer technology is worth a view. YouTube Yacht master channel. I was a bit wary of putting a boating video up on RDP.... :p

I have to say.... I really dig the original style of the Gentry Eagle. But after the redesign of the main salon, I think it just ruined the looks. The boat looked kind of goofy after that.
