Never been so bored in my life. waiting 24 seconds between slides felt like forever, Questions are really basic, but i did miss the ones about color of some buoys.

pretty much common sense answers to 99% of them

My parents made me take it when I was a kid even though I just made it in.

I only missed one question which was on purpose so I could show my results to my parents.

It basically asked what should you drink while out on a boat all day and I put beer.

What other states mandate it? that you took?
Ca, AZ, NV. Wasnt mandated. Mostly the same course and test in all those states. I now know how many horn blows I need to make when I back out of a slip.

You don't need it if you boat on the river, or do you?

If you take the BOATUS test you just click every 30 seconds until the test, then google the question if you don’t know it. Guaranteed pass

As of the dates shown below, these boaters will be required to carry a boater card issued by DBW, unless they meet certain exemptions.

California Harbors and Navigation Code Section 678.11(b) contains the following phase-in schedule based on operator age:

January 1, 2018 Persons 20 years of age or younger
January 1, 2019 Persons 25 years of age or younger
January 1, 2020 Persons 35 years of age or younger
January 1, 2021 Persons 40 years of age or younger
January 1, 2022 Persons 45 years of age or younger
January 1, 2023 Persons 50 years of age or younger
January 1, 2024 Persons 60 years of age or younger
January 1, 2025 All persons regardless of age

I took it this past year. State won’t require it until next year (for my age). Was home and was bored.

Its been a real blessing though. Having the card in my wallet means I can casually flash it at the bar. You know, so the twice-divorced aspiring influencer bartender knows I’m a serious boat owner, not just an Instagram captain.

👍👍 2 thumbs up, highly recommend. Wouldn’t know how to get my boat off the trailer without it.

In the 90’s I got a discount from SF for that test. Not sure if they do that anymore. Wasn’t much but it was something.

12 year olds work the family tractor, paper and computer test mean nothing untill reality hits you in the face, gives great info, but even you boys with 80 - 150 mph boats dont follow o_O

I will say after I got older and realized how lackluster the test I was so thankful I had my Dad, Uncle, Grandpa, and many other lifelong boaters to learn from.

wouldn't it be easier though to take the BS test. instead of dealing Fn BS on the water and possible have your day or weekend ruined because of some stupid card?
Not that i disagree with your stance. just sayin'

I have my ca card. Took it while board at work one week. Pretty easy if you are a real boater. If you don't know aft from port then the test is going to be a little hard. Remember, red right return.

Nope, I don’t do stupid things on the water to get pulled over.
Should it happen. I left my wallet at home

Waterways in Canada are federal jurisdiction and a card is required here across the country. Its an easy test and waste of time. Washington also requires a boater card. Have them both.

Had no interest in getting it (CA card), but then my daughter talked about driving the boat, so we both took the class together, was a fun father/daughter activity and we had plenty of points of reference. Completely asinine though that boaters need the card but renters don't...
