I was wondering if I could get some recommendations for a good bourbon, cook with the best and drink the rest right?

I like Makers Mark for everyday drinking Bourbon and Basil Hayden when I get a little more serious....but I'm really more of a Single Malt guy.......when I'm not drinking wine of course:drink

Hmm, lemme think?

Umm, Basil Hayden.

Very smooth, not hot like some high proof bourbons can get. Of course if you want heat you can't beat Booker's barrel proof, it's usually bottled about 122, and it's remarkably drinkable.

Also like Bakers, Jeffersons, buffalo trace, most all small batch bourbons :thumbsup

Bourbon's have a wide range of proof's as well as prices. Buffalo Trace is very nice regular sipper and not hard on the wallet. Basil Hayden is my favorite. Pappy makes a guest appearance around the Holidays. :thumbsup

I like Makers but for something special, you can't beat this....

I am on a bit of an Irish whiskey trip lately, specifically Jamesons's. Not sure I will go back to Bourbon.

If price is not a problem and you can find a bottle George T Stagg is my favorite, Noah's Mill is also great and much cheaper the others mentioned are also great but they all have a little different flavor. I still like single barrel jack

The way i found the one's i liked was to buy a bunch of the little bottles, you can get a good selection at a specialty liquor store, just pour a little in a cold glass and compare a few at a time, this is much cheaper than buying big bottles.

For bourbon, the 15 year pappy van winkle is an unbelievable whiskey, its around 107 proof, smooth, toasted caramel but really difficult to find as its so good that they cant keep up with demand, If you ever see a bottle somewhere, just buy it, don't ask questions. Also George T Stagg, and William Weller are great bourbons.

Rowan's Creek is another great amazing small batch bourbon, about half the price (mid 30s per bottle) but up there in the quality (just lesser known and no so sought after). Also Bulleit 10 (not the regular orange label stuff, although that is decent on a rock too). Jefferson makes a 12 year Rye that is pretty tasty, and has more of the Rye/Fennel flavor to it, but still a delicious whiskey.

I like mine either straight up in a cool glass, or with 1 ice cube. But the only way to enjoy whiskey is whatever way you prefer.

I had a few this evening watching Boardwalk Empire, Eastbound and Down, and Homeland. (Rowans tonight)

two bottles JD Single Barrel is good to have around for the holidays.

Then there is Crown Royal.

The hand crafted bottles make great gifts to friend, that share.

I'm not big bourbon lover. I agree with Daycruiser. Crown Royal (not bourbon, it's Canadian whiskey) tastes so good.

We had a bourbon party Saturday. Besides Pappy, I would say Old Medley was very good. I gave it a B++. The Basil was also very good.
I opened the Pappy last. Had a offer of $500 on the spot but decided to share it with some good friends. The garage bar is a work in progress. :p

No Sinatra. We had Basil Hayden, William Wellet, Four Roses Reserve, Willet, Beam Black Reserve, Old Medley, Pappy 15 and one bottle of Monkey Shoulder Scotch.

Why ruin a good Bourbon party with Scotch?! :D

Another place is Buffalo Trace. They specialize in single barrel bourbons(that is all they do). They have both slow aged and fast aged, and hear their fast aged single barrels are top notch. I toured their facility a few years ago just outside of Frankfort, Kentucky and was really impressed with their operation.

If i remember correctly Buffalo Trace produces the Pappy line as well some of the other well known single barrels.

Didn't realize Buffalo were native to Old Bourbon.

Buffalo Trace is located on a famous buffalo trace(buffalo trails) that crossed the Kentucky River...one of the best water sources for making bourbon. Bourbon is very sensitive to the minerals in water.

Buffalo Trace was also one of the few distilleries to be allowed to operate during prohibition and they relabled the bourbon to a medicinal alcohol.....basically, it was the medical marijuana of prohibition. Amazingly, Dr.s prescribed it for everything and for everyone in the family.
