Wow. That was a fight!! We hooked close to boat and he barely ran. They just caught first yesterday throughout the fleat. Next few weeks will be good!
Nice. Typically don’t fish for Marlin. But it hit the bait trolling for tuna/dorado.

looks like you guys are having a good time. Enjoy.

Uhh. The board says it's 125?

Weird display or not, nice catch!

I've been down for the black and blue for a decade or so.

Club Cascadas is just down the beach from The Office, hilarious day shows at The Office!!
Damn. I didn't notice they miss marked it. Such a crazy, money grab shit show down here. Easily get lost in the hustle.

Fished quite a bit out of Cabo in the early 80s.

Nice catch. Glad to see fishing still remains pretty epic there. Dorado was the usual result when we went out unless we got lucky.

I took our oldest Daughter (10 years old at the time) on a half day boat out of Lahaina, Maui 15 plus years back. Her first time fishing.

Long story short, she hooked up with a short billed sail fish about 30 minutes out of the harbor and it took her almost an hour to real it in.

Still have it (or really a facsimile of it) hanging in our house.

Good times..

why so few pounds? 10lbs from a 150 and 20-30 from your 350? Seems like you’d get more.

I only like smoked marlin. Other than that I’m not a fan eating them.

typically don’t fish for them for that reason. But the one I got hit the line fishing for dorado. The tackle was so lite it wouldn’t real the fish in. Tried to buy the rod and real but the captain wasn’t having it.

It’s also a dolphin fish in florida. Grays does good work but it’s pricy. Just need took up on a sail fish so I can get it mounted.

First trip to Los Barrilles me and my dad got 6 striped marlin our first day out and released them all, being our first time down there we didn’t find out till later we should have offered one to the crew. Luckily the next day we got I think 3-4more a couple of them which were not releasable so we got some smoked marlin and crew got some to take home. That 6 marlin day was first timers luck as that number stood as high number on our future trips.

I found if one cuts steaks 1/4"-1/2' thick they turn out good and I really like them. Smoked is great, wahoo is better. In the early 80's I got flown down that way a lot to work on customer boats that were down there for the season. Lot's of fishing back then for me. One time was flown down for 7 days to fix a M/C shift problem, problem solved in less than an hour and fished the whole rest of time. Caught a ton of marlin that trip and my first one was 175# and I kept it. Private boat fishing was great!!!

Yaknow all this marlin fishing talk has me recalling several conversations with old timers here at OC coast telling me how this area used to have epic marlin fishing.... maybe back in 60-70s? Only thing I've seen to back that up are pics at my old Catalina hotel haunt called the Zane Grey. He did some great marlin fishing and out by the pool were many black marlin catches on display from the era. All fished out I guess.

Have a couple of time shares at Pueblo Bonito Sunset, its a taxi ride to town approx 5-6 miles about $15 ride each way. Or you take the resort bus to Rose in town for free.

Last two times did Airbnb and stayed at the condos in Marina Plaza right in town on the Marina. But lots of other choices depending on where you want to be. Worked out great. Rented a car and spent most of our time at the beaches between cabo and todos santos. That crazy Mendano beach scene is not our thing.

In the 80's and 90's, we had good marlin years and bad, just like anything, it depends on the water temps, clarity and color and of course WHERE.
The really epic marlin fishing as well before the 60's and 70's, back when they were using rods resembling broom sticks and catching Black Sea Bass the size of Volkswagens.
We caught a lot of marlin off of so cal, although usually just preceding and immediately following the big money tournaments.
The day before the first Bisbee's Tournament we fished in Cabo, we boated a Blue that would have won big $$$$, the following two tournament fishing days we got skunked.
I think Marlin fishing was invented by the Arab Oil Cartels. 😂
The El Nino years rocked, we boated a lot of stripe marlin, dorado, tuna and even wahoo off so cal and upper mex. No question though, when the bite is on down Baja way, you'll get a lot of good "Over Beers" stories, but come home forever spoiled. There's simply nothing like a day of fishing when you get to boat four or five marlin and finally put the rods away because you can't lift your arms any longer.
The Ladies tournament my wife took 2nd place in, was during an El Nino summer, she hooked the thing about 1/2 mile off the Mission Bay jetty, in almost 80 degree water, and we were damn near inside the jetty mouth when we brought it on board. When the rod went off, we thought we'd snagged a kelp stringer, when it jumped we were all shocked. A lobster guy even saw us and hauled up a trap so we wouldn't snag it.

Good marlin fisherman needs good eyes, when I was younger I could spot marlin or boils, but I'd be driving over the fuckers now, Oopsie

All about your budget ... give specifics and I can advise
If it's a guy's trip the Mar de Cortez is a great budget place. Easy to find and walk to after drinking. Not sure if mermaids is still across the street. I stopped going 8 years ago.

I did the Bisbees 3 yrs in a row around 2010-2012 with the same group of friends. Best time ever for a guys trip and a hell of a lot of fun in Cabo for that week with everything going on. Never contended for the top prize, just donated to the winners, lol. We did catch and release some smaller mailin and kept some dorado for dinner!

My favorite is getting the All Inclusive at Marina Fiesta in the marina. The all inclusive includes breakfast, lunch and dinner at the killer restaurants in front of the hotel in the marina. 5 minute walk to the bars in town. 5 minute walk to the office/mango deck. I've turned lot's a friends and family onto the deal and the all love it!

I also gotta add, I wouldn't book this if it is just me and my chick. I that's the case, I'd go to Casa Dorada or something similar. Marina Fiesta is nice, but I go with large groups of people and ready to throw down tons of booze and stuff my face with bomb food!

The first Bisbees had a mexican buffet at the awards ceremony, I woke up at 3 AM and did a " Dave goes to the China Buffet" rerun. 😖 From then on, I ate elsewhere 😁
Although now I see that the Black and Blue commands one hell of a party and awards show. I fished it in it's early days, they weren't paying out $ 4.5 Million back then. 😱

The more enjoyable post tournament awards ceremony was the Catalina Gold Cup held at the old Avalon Casino, that was one classy tournament and just being inside that huge old casino was so cool, the pictures on the walls were amazing.

We were small fry, we fished it for fun and to see if we could get lucky, hard to win against a cockpit and helm manned with several pros.

Too vague my friend... Cabo went fancy some years back.... they now have several excellent world class accommodations.... and they also still have those described above. Regardless of where you stay be sure to hit Mango Deck next to The Office. Office is where tourist go.... Mango Deck is locals & regulars. Have this ceviche' game changer and watch the butt contests

Pueblo Bonito sunset is great. Love how it’s close to town, but also far enough away so you feel secluded. Great resort and upgrading the timeshare room to the room with the jacuzzi on the patio is worth it every time!
