I got one about organizing meetups via a thread on this forum.

Does the OP open themselves up to any sort of liability when putting together an "event" like meetup?

Does the OP open themselves up to any sort of liability when putting together an "event" like meetup?

Depends on the nature of the meetup, but technically (IMO) yes it does.

Now the likelihood of something actually happens depends on the nature of the event or meetup etc and how it was worded from the get go.

For example when riverwhips and some of the other IG FB groups say “let’s meet at the white sand beach in the channel and head to pirates”. That is a huge huge no no.. (honestly I am really surprised they didn’t get fined from the coast guard for a couple of those things).

As I understand it.. once you go from point A to point B. Now you require a coast guard permit. You require safety protocols, if you are smart, insurance and pretty much everything a event like desert Storm or other poker runs require.

Next problem with that particular plan is you’re running right through a wild life refuge which brings so many problems with it I don’t even know where to start.. 😳

To conclude that deal though if you are interested in knowing the correct way to do it, you start by looking at it from the deposition stand.

“Well mr xyz my clients elected to participate in your run when their passenger fell out of the boat and got run over.

What safety measures did you take?
Would they not have been on the lake that day if it weren’t for your event? Or been in the area?” And on and on.

The “new thing” for people to bypass a lot of that shit is to say “we are going to be here at this time”. With no indication of how they are arriving. No start point or end point etc.. This is why eliminator and others are doing their regattas etc @ pirates. Low cost / profitable and low risk.

For the larger gatherings there still is liability but it is reduced quite a bit.

Now if you say I want to meet at Patty’s Irish bar for beers on a Thursday?” Probably be ok, but I would always include the wording “be responsible use a DD or a shuttle / taxi etc but don’t drink and drive” to further mitigate that..

You can get the point across without sounding like a lawyer. Example “channel tonight” thread from DS.

I said I’m going to be there anyone wants to come come.. and the rest. It isn’t an event I just said that is where I’m gonna be.

"Used Boat buyers guide"; inspection checklist, how many hours on various motors before rebuilds, or freshen up.
"RDP annual best of the River" Best Margarita, Best Bloody Mary, best burger, best-prepackaged lunch, coldest beer, or best selection, best nightclub, etc.
Beginner guide to performance boating. The basic stuff many experts don't consider anymore. Could be a cool video series with different experts. I hear a lot of people complain about idiots on the water, maybe this teaches people not to be idiots? Best practices, etiquette? Short single topics video series. You could film a dozen in a couple of hours.
More History, grab as much as you can before the pioneers are gone.

Edit: A comprehensive list of storage locations. I started making a list, damn what a PITA.

Some of these things would make great SEO topics to further position RDP as the leading source for performance boating content.

The advertising schedule is something I have been trying to get done since Jan 1. I am hoping to have it done and online mid next week.

The person you would talk to is me.

I can’t think of a legal reason that would ever require it.

“Could”. I could download the plug ins right now and do it.

The “would I” is the more interesting answer, and the answer would be probably not.. unless my lawyer (yes we have one) said it was absolutely necessary.

A lot of people would say cheetah, and they would be wrong..

That is the fastest land animal. There are hawks that have dive speeds in excess of 120mph. Not sure which is the fastest

All speed tests I have seen have been that you do it in both directions so you can rule out stuff like wind, GRAVITY, etc. So if I drop my jet boat off a cliff and it hits 120 mph I cannot claim its a 100+ mph boat until I can go up at the same speed.

A red tail hawk and a pigeon weigh close to the same, the red tail hawk is larger bird.

It seems whenever a new build it going, you here how great and reliable a power package is. After some one has an issue with their new ride it seems the list is long of others that have had similar issues or other consistent problems. It seems Mercury’s package issue are difficult to get access to unless you are in the know. Every thread on 700’s always seem like a reliable package, then you get on here and read how so many moved to outboard being their opinion is different. It would be nice to have a known issue section.

The Peregrine Falcon has been recorded at speeds up to 200+ MPH in a dive.

And the struggle continues…

True story.. I was down at the Bluewater casino one time and there was the adba thing that was just kinda starting out.

Two guys walk up to me in the bar and say “Hey your RiverDave right?” I say yes.. they say we want to get you a beer.. I say ok, so we walk over to the bar. They order three beers..

They are sitting there talking to me about adba (should note they aren’t affiliated with the group to my knowledge? I think they were racers or spectators? Dunno jetboaters for sure lol.

So we are talking and the bartender is kinda sitting there staring at the dude that ordered waiting to get paid. Guy just keeps talkin. So he hits dude number two because I’m furthest from the bar, he just kinda keeps talking. So after like two minutes (which is a long long time in this circumstance). I finally say “let me get this round”

I paid.. the guy kept talking and I just walked away. Lol.

We will be back on October 1st. Islander gave us the boot with the rest of the snowbirds on April 1st to make room for Californians. We put in for an exemption to stay until May, since we are not on social security, suck at pickleball, and don't like Fireball. Sorry, we never connected, next season I'm sure we will.

Disclaimer: No Californians were harmed in the drafting of this post, nor did the author intend to offend, harm, defame or otherwise damage the reputation of those who reside in or claim the state as their home. - Sportin'Wood formerly Californian.

Additional appendix disclaimer concerning Snowbirds, Sportin'Wood identifies as a Snowbird Apprentice but does really suck at PickleBall.
