Haven’t been in 8+ years and had nothing really going on today, so I figured it would be a great day to see a few cars I’ve been wanting to see. The 1st one the orange 40 Chevy that belong to my dad. When he passed away in 2004 he left it to me and I had it for a few years before I sold it. Used to have have a few hot rods and customs when I was younger and spent every weekend with my dad attending car shows or cruise nights. When he passed I sort of stop. It just wasn’t the same without my dad. Years passed and I figured let me try this car thing again. Went to a club meeting and I couldn’t wait for it to be over. Just tore me up inside not having my best friend their. Next day I called my dads best friend to offer him the car as he was the first one when my dad past to say he wants the car if I ever sell. He answered the phone and says to me “I was expecting this call today” Short story long, it’s been a few years since I’ve seen it. The only thing he’s changed is the interior. The 2nd car is my all time favorite custom. The Hirohata Merc. Never seen it in person until today. Beautiful, just Beautiful. Took a bunch of pics and it’s funny, the hardest thing to get a picture of was a boat 😂 Hope you enjoy the pics. I’m no TommyGun and it shows.

Thanx for posting , if what you posted is your style of cool , current and timeless then we are very much in sync ! That bare metal chev coupe in Ironworks booth has a ton of subtle body mods as well , been following that one for a few years..He has a BIG 3d printer now so he can replicate design parts in full size for fitment and style adjustments..They were doing some 3D full seats a while back..

A buddy of mine called me last night and asked if I wanted to go to the show, I laughed. I said your fully vaccinated, came down with covid 3 weeks ago
( had a tough time I might add) show them your vax card, negative test and your good to go. Frickin Joke!!!

Me on the other hand, not vaxxed, never had any signs of the virus, took 1 test (negative results) to appease family members at Christmas time. I've donated blood on 3 occasions (one recent) since covid pandemic began and not once have I been denied or turned away by the American Red Cross. I can go into just about any establishment around town at my own free will, masked or un-masked, no vax required. So what makes the GNRS so special??? I've been to the show numerous times over the years and I'm sure this show will be a fraction of show's in the past. Rant over with the exception of the GNRS organizers sticking that swab where the sun doesn't shine...

I just want to thank all those that have posted pics and those that will be posting pics over the weekend...

I did notice some 3D parts on this. I took a few pictures of the car. Incredible work and like you said subtle. I could have taken a dozen more pictures of it and never catch all the details

Is all the bare metal stuff a new trend? It’s gotta be coated I’m guessing?

This car is badass. 😳

The Black 4 door 51 Merc in the background was my Dad's. Pretty car considering it was painted in single stage, outside in a driveway in Riverside about 30 years ago! I re did the air ride on it about 15 years ago.

I love the pink Impala! Kinda reminds me of Gypsie Rose. Any pictures from the VW hall?
One of my oldest friends helped his friend move in on Thurs night with his old chopped bug. There’s a feature on the car and Dave’s story in the latest Hot VWs. They sent me this pic after set up.

So I'd have to drop $65 for my wife and I for some assholes to ask me for some ridiculous vax proof just to look at cars and pay for overpriced food and beer. And I don't have to wear a mask? Shouldn't I be worried about myself and the virus if I'm not vaxxed? Since the jab and masks work and all. This shit is such a joke...😂😂 Sounds like a place I don’t need to be. Oh wait.....I can just get me an easy copy of a vax card from my niece and make it easy. 😂😂

I went today. They had a free quick test table just left of the entrance line for those of us without vax cards. Test results took 2 minutes. Very few wearing masks inside the show (indoors or out). Great turnout of cars both in the buildings and outside. Entry fee was $25 which I purchased 2 days ago online. Parking was $15 dollars at gate 9. The NHRA museum was open and free with admission as well. I spent $30 on a double burger combo with fries and a drink. Total investment for the day was $70 plus gas. Anyone on the fence I would recommend going. Joe Rogan's Nova was there, Kevin Hart had an amazing '69 Roadrunner on display. Poncherello was charging for autographed pictures and there were a few decent looking chics here and ther. It's a great show imo. :)

A lot of good stuff! Some off that stuff was UNBELIEVABLE. The one that stood out to me was the blue 55 “Brute Force” parked next to the Hirahata Merc.
Amazing the amount of detail, fabrication and money that went into some of these cars.

I asked the owners of the bare metal displays and they stated that they coat it with some type of oil to keep it from rusting immediately when touched or exposed to the elements. 🤷‍♂️
My friend Jeff owns "Absolute Sheetmetal"...it was Bitchin Products. I asked him what he does, as all his products are bare metal...and shipped. He wipes everything down with air tool oil. Buys it by the gallon, it's very lightweight and easy to apply and remove. Years ago I'd asked Jim Falschliener(sp)..."Jimmy Shine"... what he used on his pickup. He did the same thing we did on roll cages, ATF. That was 20 years ago, may have found something better now.

I use Gibbs oil. It does an amazing job inhibiting corrosion and more importantly cleans off easily during prep for paint. I have bare metal machine stands, rolling bases, welding tables, and material racks that I welded up years ago, wiped down with Gibbs, and they still don't show any sign of rust. It's so good I may never get around to painting or powder coating them.

Gibbs is good stuff! Try it on old paint  It will bring a sheen to stuff you think the paint would flake off of. Major plus, doesn't attract dust like the oil stuff. For my old junk, I just us WD...for other people's stuff, I may break out the good stuff.
