How do you all feel about red light cameras?

You feel camera's in classrooms are somewhat an invasion of privacy to the teachers?

I think it will hinder the teaching process. If people are worried about curriculum, then pay attention and stay involved.

It doesn't seem to affect the hundred of thousands of business's that have cameras, i.e. banks/grocery stores/car dealerships/restaurants/casinos/ect ect ect.

I think most parent's due pay attention and are involved but cameras are good at times to. Look at the incident just this week with the bus driver who slapped a 10 year old girl because her mask wasn't covering her nose. That footage put that guy in Jail as it should have.

You can make it pretty secure. It wouldn't be a public feed like the webcam in the channel at the lake. It should also be setup to where access is only available during a class session only so to give teachers privacy when they are in the classroom by themselves.

My wife's a teacher. After listening in to my 14yo son's college Psych 101 class, she'd be all for teachers being videoed.

I find it funny, those who feel a camera in the class would be an invasion of privacy, are fine with people watching over every aspect of their own lives via cell and internet tracking. Those who feel a camera would be disruptive to a teacher, mounted in the corner of the room, are fine with strapping one to the vest of a LEO...kind of a bit more disruptive...

Once "someone" has access it is no longer secure. If you think ALL the other parents/guardians to the class are all like minded you are mistaken.

There absolutely are ways to keep the feed to just parents. If you have perv parents, they are already doing perv things anyway.

Never said ALL parent's are like minded said most. In regards to access and secure system's I won't bother getting into ways how this could work you don't agree with it anyways which is fine.

I think if schools wanted to offer that they should let the parent's vote and if they had enough votes should offer that option imho.

it's pretty simple.... just start firing shitty teachers... things will change quick.

^^^^^ This!!! I have always been one to back teachers until they started the zoom stuff. The teachers are so fucking lazy with what they are doing. Not saying all, but the ones that are teaching my kids are. They put everything on the parents to teach and follow up.

Careful, you might see how much of a shitty student your kids are.

I think the focus on what the teachers are teaching in the class is not looking at the bigger picture. By then it’s too late. They have less and less influence on the curriculum. You have to pay attention on a broader scale and see who is approving the curriculum to be taught.

And I [emoji817] agree that just about every kid on this forum has parents that are involved with their learning and care about what is happening day to day. In Southern California, that number is probably more like 20 percent.

My post wasn't referencing what the teachers are teaching but the amount of teaching that is going on and support they should be providing my children. My daughter is in 1st grade and almost everyday the teacher ends class early but bitches at us when we go on vacation and says she needs to do class work while on vacation. WTF! Fuck that! Her teacher also always say if you have questions ask your parents. Again WTF are you getting paid for! Yes my wife works from home, but she is working, just like you should be!

My son is in 5th grade, same school, we know he has struggled with Math and English. The teacher gave us his report card and basically is saying he is failing those subjects. My wife and flip out, and request a meeting, we want to know how we can fix it. Teacher reviews his work and says actually is not really that bad, but don't worry, everyone is behind, . WTF!! We have our meeting, agree that they will help work with him individually as will my wife and I. They set up specific times and days, not once did they follow through on there promise. He has also asked for help before class and the teacher says nope!!! Ask your parents. Again WTF!

there are a few teachers that care and do their jobs well, but they are the minority. The rest should be fired.... I do not support tenure / union safety for shitty teachers.

heck there was a case a while back of the guy teacher that was feeding kids spoons full of semen... not sure if he ever got fired, or was placed on administrative leave. CA teachers union is a joke.

That was an LA Unified teacher in south LA. F'd up beyond belief. LAUSD has it's "own" teachers union, separate from other Cali teachers. Some serious fuckery, the district had a "detention" room for messed up teachers. They had to go to the district office I believe, and spend their shift there. Apparently it was too hard to fire them, but they weren't allowed to be with students.

this was actually a mostly good interchange.
I don't have kids in school any longer, but I can say for myself that it would be excruciating to watch a pre-college classroom. intensely boring to all but those who wanted to police the situation. or maybe to control their own kid or to do spot auditing of their own kid.
setting up such access may be useful for a select few, and for them, why not?
verify their need to know, limit the access to specific classes their kid is enrolled in, get them access to an encrypted line on a trial basis.

pervs gonna perv, so keep the subscriptions closely monitored, and with very limited timeframes.

online evaluations by students like ratemyteacher.com and ratemyprofessor.com are probably casually effective in isolating the worst teachers to steer clear of.

the best remedy is to become the teacher of first resort for your kids (I feel like @monkeyswrench has achieved this)...develop their trust in your own ability to instruct them by staying involved with them and their schooling...as long as possible...even through bad and good individual instructors.

This will never happen, but I thought it was a great question.

What it comes down to is this...............

View attachment 1006758

Fulfill your roles boys. 👍
This is true, but not the only two roles in this regard. Shielding your kids from all of this may backfire. They have to know about it. The hardest part is letting them see it. Once they see it, it's a parent's job to help the kids learn the truth. At times, that may even contradict my own beliefs or feelings...that part sucks. If the kids know right from wrong, have a moral compass, they will make decisions you should understand, even if you don't always agree. Our job as parents is to help our own kids. Then, hopefully, they will in turn help their friends, especially those whose parents let the system raise them.

Easily fixed. Only registered parents or legal guardians have access via password protected that changes every few months. Too much work? If that is the case, then the parent or guardian simply doesn't care.
