Who knows Deck boats what hull is the fastest of course same power to power? What are the top dogs? Nordic? Whats your take on twin 400rs vs a blown v drive?
Thank you Skydog

Howard has the fastest hull hands down with a single motor. Not even close unless you go way over 1000 hp. Probably still not close even if you do that. They are beautifully built boats that handle well with excellent rigging.

A 28 Howard is faster than a 26 Nordic deck?

tough to argue the looks on those howards, they have some of the best looking lines in the business IMO.

Not sure actually.. How fast will a 26 Nordic run with stock 600? It should be faster because it is 2 feet shorter.. the 29 Nordic is a nice boat but a much slower hull.. They ride wetter but they are a much larger boat.. makes sense.. A stock Howard propped correctly with 600 will run 87 to 89 mph with a moderate load..

My pops and uncle had a 27' Eliminator Fun Deck and sold it for another 27' Eliminator Fundeck. They are great boats and handle shitty water well. If I was to get one, I'd want 1 with 2 400s 👍

For anyone interested i saw last night on IG Howard has a used 255 VTX with an HO up for sale at the factory. It has like 30 hours. Sounds like the owners moved up to a 288.

Howard only makes a 28 foot deck boat.. They are only made with a single I/O. With 600 you can get well into the mid 90s if you bump it up with the Whipple kits. I have heard witha Teague 1025 they run at about 110.. I have never been in one with that power.. Maybe they will build you one with twin 450’s? Mine will run a touch over 100.. I have had it over 100 with over half tanks and five men on board.. It was cold air with 1 foot of wind chop..

I'm a die hard Howard fan, but I think a twin engine E ticket has to be in the running for the fastest.
Never seen a twin engine Howard? I thought the question was power to power...

Howard has perfected the shoebox tunnel hull.

I would be really curious to see what the Howard would do with twin 400's. Some hulls don't react well to the higher cg and prop position that come with the outboards vs an i/o and it takes time and work to get them dialed in.

The first Nordic 26 with twin 400's ran 95 with bravo props and not a whole lot of time to play with setup. I wouldn't be surprised if they got to triple digits with different props and some tweaking to engine height.

If 10 or so mph matters that much go for top speed, but I would want ride quality at upper cruise speeds hands down. My deck boat is capable of triple digits, but I never go there. Especially with anyone on board. Ride in them and judge for yourself.

What boat is this and how much hp and what drive?
Wow
Thanks
That is mine.. I am not sure exactly how much hp.. 890 I am told but no dyno. It is a Mercury 600 that has been bumped up. Absolute did the work. New cam also. In this video it had an XR drive built by Max Machine. It currently has an SCX drive with an SC lower. I have only run it up to 98 now... I haven't really tried to break 100 again but I can tell it has slowed down with the SCX. It still runs pretty strong 550 hours on her. With the old drive it would run up to 102 and that was about it. I never held it open very long.
With a stock 600 you will be at about 86 to 89 mph. Whipple stages will get you to 95-96.. If you install a new cam.. over 100..
I run 5 blade props.. currently a 32 Maximus with the diffuser ring cut.

Eliminator is making a 30ft Deck with twin 450's

the 27Speedster walk off open bow is damn near a 27ft deckboat that hauls the mail with OB's...Actually its a great compromise.

ANY deckboat needs some bigger power to run a big number when fully outfitted .

On a new Build , I think I would go with Teague power rather than spend the money for MERC power and then Re Engineer.

That’s why I added windshields.. I typically run at about 55 to 70 mph.. I rarely go over 90 anymore.. I am getting old.. That was my daughter and she was asking for a 30 second facelift..

You don't need to do anything to the Merc power to hit a solid 87,88 mph with a stock Howard 288. The whipple bump is fairly inexpensive and easy to get a few hundred extra horses.. and some drive breaking torque. Ha

While it would be awesome for the manufacturers to all supply a boat of roughly the same size and engine package. It would be impossible since none of the resources needed to build a showroom demo boat are available. The only way to do that would be to get some owners with relatively similar boats together and have a shootout of sorts to determine certain agreed upon test results and then compare said results. RD could pull this off I have faith in him.

if you sit down with Gene and drop a substantial deposit, chances are your build date will get moved up. Since Howard offers a fully refundable deposit before the build starts, people pull out all the time and others get to slid into their spots. We were initially told it would take 8 months to start our boat, Gene called a month later and had a build spot for us.... Ultimately, we went in another direction and pulled out of the build.

Well, some of you know, I drink Coolaid from a Cobra cup... In the Jan/Feb issue they tested the 280W Cobra Deckboat with a 8.2 HO. Tested at 76 MPH.
They just completed another with a 525 and on a glass smooth Elsinore got 83.
A new owner just took his to Havasu last weekend, with no seat time got 82 with a 565. That boat with the right prop has to have a few more MPH.
I believe there are now 2 or 3 of them out there with Teague power over 900HP now.

I have the old blue one.. it is a 2007 sportdeck.. the red one in the picture is my friends 288. (2016)... I don’t think the VTX is very fast.. It is a family water sports boat.. I would imagine with 600 hp topping out at 80 mph.. I really don’t know.. In short.. the 288 will outrun the 255 VTX.. They are very different hulls..

I think the red 255 with a Mercury Racing 520 ran about 80 with no problem. Still your right the 288 is the winner when it comes to speed when comparing the two models.

I didn’t know they call it a deck boat.. It is a V hull with sponsons.. completely different hull than the 28 foot models.. but I think I am wrong.. again... It is a deck boat.. I love the boats.. all of them are nice.. thanks for correcting me..

I was teasing you, but i think the term "deck boat" has to due with the deck lay out, and walk off bow and stern. I think the industry standard for deck boats which we are all accustomed too are generally CAT style hulls.

The 255 VTX married the sponson design from the 288 with the bottom of the bullet. Gene told us it is about 70% Bullet and 30% 288. It was designed by Mike to be able to mix water sports, performance, and the aesthetics of the 288. The 288 sport deck is not a good hull for towing people. The process Mike used to design the bottom of the 255 with the running plug is pretty incredible. I think the first hull with a 565 will be finished in July and they are expecting it to be in the 90's. If you want to go fast, I think the 288 is the boat to go with.
