Hallett 250

I don't think they were that desirable, they didn't have the cabin room like a 240/255, but were still just as long.

It was like a day cruiser that was 3 feet longer than the rest of the field, that debuted in an era where the day cruiser was a thing of the past for the majority of the market.

Honestly i have no idea, i've only ever seen a couple of them. There used to be an all yellow one that would boat at Mead

That is my friend Alex driving that one. She's a great boat captain. The family has since moved onto the 285 Deck.

I've been in that boat, really nice. Typical walk-through open bow, not as deep of a cockpit as the 240, the captains chair was more like a love seat, two spots in it.

I think Nick at the time, and I remember talking to Jerry about it, was going for a "EURO" look with integrated 'painted windscreens', and trying to get away from the boxy 240 deck, and acrylic wind screens, ended up developing the 245 and 255 after, which was more inline with the other models. The 255 stuck, and the 250 died out rather quickly.

I am not sure about the bottom, where it originated. Stepped bottom, like some of the 270's. It rode nice, from what I remember.

Not knowing the rest of the history, I'd say it was born from the Stepped-270 and stylized 'EURO', vs. the 255, was a merger of the 270 top, and 240 straight-v-bottom.
Just my opinion at this point.

Seemed to happen a lot there for a while lol. 250, 245, 290 og. All kind of came and went quietly

when they go away quietly, that is a sign.........saying that, the 25 mcob went away silently, but i dont know why........has the 27 look with the 24 bottom ( hypocrit alert).........id still rock a 25 mcob or closed and a 27.......the 27 is still relevant

people get all caught up in the new, but there are still some that deserve to be built.........25, 27 hallett, and the 28 nordic heat.........trends come and go, but the mainstays are still there...........perception is the true enemy, the actual value is not..................take a ride, you'll see......the differences in the "newest" are not that different.............unless you want to givve up ride for 3 MPH, and most times, not even that in true conditions

travis is still rolling this to this day...........fwiw

Travis knows the entire history. From what I remember there was 6 -10 of them made. A couple of those were walk through open bows. The first one out of the mold had some handling issues and they re tooled it. The rest had no issues with handing and actually ran pretty well. 502 would run 75-80mph if I remember correctly. They discontinued it due to its looks and being to euro. Different bottom then the 240, 245, and 255 as the 240 and 255 share the same bottom.

Yeah, member Superscrewsjohn on HotBoat was tossed out of 250 or 27, step bottom, and broke some bones IIRC.

245 sounds right, I heard those things like to lean to one side at certain speeds and even tabbing them would not correct it.

I had one. The only thing that would correct the lean was snapping the wheel hard over to the opposite side. Had the weirdest chine walk above 70 that I've ever dealt with. Would oscillate very slowly from side to side. Around one second on each side. Super spooky!

If you ever get a chance ask Thane to tell the whole story of the 245.

Yeah it is a good story. All Nick on many of the bad decisions that happened on certain boats.

I bought it from the original owner a gentleman named bill awesome guy and took exceptional care of it. I have read all the horror stories of how it handles poorly never experienced any of it.

I thought he got tossed out of a 290 but it was so long ago I can't remember..

I went for a ride one time in a 240 with the guy that was driving when it threw them all out of the boat. He had a 240 with a B3.. and he said it handled like a slot car.. Then while we were just cruising he showed me how it handled like a slot car. LOL. It was unnerving to say the least. We were cruising along like 50-60 and all of a sudden he went lock to lock with the steering.

I gotta admit that 240 got put through it's paces that day and passed with flying colors. I remember thinking though if he tried that shit with a larger boat he's gonna get wet.

I remember it was a new bottom boat with steps. There were a few people on the boat, doing a demo ride Not sure if it was a 24/255 or 27.

I often wonder on these stories how much of it is driver error.

Every story online makes the driver out to be just shy of an offshore racer. Then you find out from others they’re a drunk and make stupid decisions lol. This isn’t against any one brand just stories I’ve heard over the years.

They seem like a very nice size boat. Not too big not too small. I've read that they are the same bottom as the old 240. Is it true that they tend to want to roll over when driving through a wake while passing boats? I thought I remember reading that somewhere. thanks for the thoughts and...

The Hallett 245 non vented single step bottom was the bad handling one. Buddy had one and witnessed it twice almost throw all the occupants out on a very slow speed turn. I believe this was the boat that threw out the evaluator at the Hot Boat Evals. years ago, but never had the balls to publish the name.

Knowing the whole story on that... I'd bet if you did what the driver of that boat did in your boat the same thing probably would've happened.. Incidentally I went for a boat ride with the guy that drove that boat (before it happened) and in his 240 he got my absolute undivided attention on more then one occassion.. You can't take big boats like that and start whipping the wheel lock to lock and expect small boat type cornering.
