Wife and I are looking at a Hallett 335 and wanted to see if anyone has any firsthand feedback on the hull and how it rode. We owned a new Hallett 245 back in the late 90's and loved how solid they were and how well made it was.

Thanks,

I've spent a fair amount of time on 335's/ 340's and even a 400.

Lots of room in those boats. Open bows are pretty damn big too.

If you can find one, get a side door, makes beaching and loading stuff while on the trailer so much easier.

The Hull rides great, Hallett's logo isn't "live the legend" by mistake.

I know, it sold last week. We went and looked at it a couple times and liked the looks of it, but we aren't huge fans of viper motors with them being phased out and parts becoming scarce down the line. We are looking at a couple other one that are for sale, one of which we've known the owner a of for many years.

Nice thing with the Ilmors is they are dead nuts reliable. Quite a few well over 500 hrs no issues. Also ilmor is still going to make parts. There is another one coming up soon with the same motors.

I like the 335 a lot as well OP. Keep us updated if you end up buying one post some pics here. Have you looked at the Nordic 35 Flames by chance?

My buddy looked at the 335 as well that just sold at Hallett. Illmor's were a reason he didn't pull the trigger.

I think 600's would be a great package IMO.

I would take 600's over Ilmor 710 setup any day.

Anyone that looks at a boat with a pair of well maintained 700 Ilmors and would rather have 600's is crazy.

290 hrs on a well engineered V10 is nothing.

That boat was set up well including SCX drives. I would have ditched the CMI mufflers for something else.

I would take an Ilmor 700 Scx combo over a 600 XR setup any day.

There are a lot of people in the market that will not buy Ilmor boats do to the lack of shops and parts for them. I for one am one of them, great motors but last I heard TCM is your only game. Teague is great but only having one choice is a hassle if the shop is backed up. You might want to do a little research on the 710's before you'd pick them over 600 mercs. we all have opinions on what motors we like but I have seen first hand how the 710's are. Heard it from Ilmor and boat builders. They warrantied a lot of those motors. The 710's like to split oil filters at high rpm........ or at idle....

Thanks,

We did a pair of Whipple 525's in one. It worked well.

I like the size of the boat too, big cockpit without being 42 feet long...

Thought you were building a Howard deck....

We were going to, but changed my mind. After careful thought and consideration we decided we liked the ability to get out of the sun when needed, thus we are sticking with the mid cabin option. Also wind protection when under way is nice...

Yeah I feel you on that for sure. I wish I would have held out for a mid cabin Bullet. Too many times the kids pass out on the way back and the mid cabin would be super nice to have.

Which one you looking at? I like the 335s, but they seem hard to come by.

It’s off market. Private deal. We’ll see how it goes. Gotta get hands on and water test first.

This is the one we ended up buying... It was a solid boat and ran hard. Ended up selling, it was just too big for us.

What did you think about the power package?

The twin 600's ran very nice. I never got the boat about 75, but it did have plenty left in it at that speed. The insurance wasn't bad either with those motors (a little over a grand a year).

I've had my eye on that boat. Love it, but just gotta wait for the right time. When did you own/sell it? I thought it belonged to another member on here?

@Runs2rch's family's 335 is as clean as they come! @FROGMAN524, if you end up buying it, you'll still have to bring it out to Mead and hang out with the rest of us. First beers are on @Runs2rch lol

Definitely. Looking forward to it. I was in havasu today and Windsor is the only ramp open anywhere. Temple bar is closed, all the Nevada ramps on Mead are closed, Cottonwood and Katherines Landing are closed, the havasu landing resort ramp is closed until April 24th and water is too low at Willow beach. Can you even take a motorized boat to the Hoover dam anymore from the river or did they stop that?

I believe the Hoover dam deal is seasonal.

Big thanks to @Runs2rch (Chris) and his dad Paul for the hospitality in Boulder today and for giving me the opportunity to purchase this fine boat. It’s as beautiful, clean and classy inside and out as you could imagine, especially for a 2006. It’s obviously been well taken care of throughout its life and I plan to continue that tradition.

Took it to havasu today since mead is closed and put about 2.5 hours on it going up and down the lake. Boat ran flawless. Looking forward to putting some fun hours on it this year if everything opens back up soon.

Ill get some pics of the cabin tomorrow after I get the tires replaced at Discount in the morning. The boat is much bigger in person that it appears in photos that's for sure. Step dad loved running it and I enjoyed sitting in the passenger seat drinking diet cokes all day.

1st owner had a spot at the Islander. I believe this was his 3rd or 4th Hallett. I remember he had matching wheels on his truck. Badass setup. I always stopped whatever I was doing and just watched him drive by 🤤

Thanks for the time Brian. I’ll see ya on the lake sometime when this Covid disaster is over.

I don’t normally but it’s close to my house and I’ve got time on my hands thanks to COVID. I’d normally be one of the big 4 Colorado River lakes.
