HI guys,
New guy, Old boater checking in.
Been lurking for years, finally joined up. I still mostly lurk.
Live in Yorba Linda. Lake Mead is my water paradise of choice.
Been going there since I was a tyke. My Uncle from Las Vegas had a 16' Glaspar with a
60HP Mk75A Mercury. Used to love watching him put the hurt on all the other outboards of the day. Only thing faster were the NOISY inboards. My Uncle and my Dad, both fishermen, used to cuss and swear at them all time. I would sit there thinking, how COOOOOL is that...........Some day...............
That was many decades ago..
Have owned 4 boats...2 jets, 2 outdrives....
Currently sporting a Hallett 270S with of course............ Mercury power.......

Mike Welcome!!! I boat on Mead too should be out this whole weekend. Mike does the bigger drive take more power to turn it or is it just way stronger?

I assume it takes more to spin it, Mercury has data I've read somewhere that says no. Logic tells me bigger shafts, bigger gears takes more power.
Mercury says Dry sump more efficient. I'm not qualified to give answer.

Yes, it is way stronger.

Not sure when I'm going out again.
Trying to make that little Poker Run on the 19th.
We'll see....

Thanks for the compliment. Yes we spent some time in the channel during DS. It has HP500EFI's. Not the fastest with no steps and heavy but it is very stable at any speed. What are the specs on yours? Hard to tell from your avatar pic but looks like maybe a 335 or so. Is that a side entry door too?

I like the ride and feel of the straight bottom. Mines a 340 with the same 500efis. Runs great and rock solid across rough water:) yea that’s the side door. Now that I’ve experienced having it I don’t understand why others have not adopted it into the designs.

Kind of hard to tell from the pics.. Is that a single step or twin step? I'd love to see some more pics of the bottom of it!

Welcome to RDP!

Single Step. One of the first if not the first Single Step.
Which morfed into the first Gen 290. The 290 then moved on to the ventilated bottom, then on to the V2D.
The 290 has the same running surface as the 270, but with a molded swim step.
