We’ve got our annual trip to Havasu coming up in July. I’m thinking about cancelling it due to the gas/diesel prices. I live in Santa Clarita and diesel is $6.35 a gallon and rising. I don’t want to spend $500 to get there and $500 to get back, along with $500-$1000 in gas for the boat.

Can someone post the price of diesel and gas in Havasu? If it’s way cheaper there, I might be able to stomach it.

What boat?

Here's the way I see this.... Boating is a way of life. If you have a boat you have to use it constantly, at least seasonally. You said diesel, and I have your trip length at 300 milesish. 12 MPG, 300 miles $6 = $150 each way. I have a 270 Hallett and can get by with $200 a weekend if we stay close and hang on the beach more. If we do the Springs or Pirates, that's different, but this is manageable depending on your deal. I buy ALL of my fuel on the water. Havasu Marina. If you're trailering, then you can get fuel a lot cheaper than I can.

Sounds like a nice Marriott weekend around the house.

Usually that is the case. I love being about to do a quick trip to CA and get there and back in one tank. 👍
Topped my 48g fuel tank in the F350 at the 76 (exit 1 in AZ) yesterday. Don’t plan on driving the truck again until it goes to Havasu. Diesel in Carlsbad is approaching 6.50+

River trip, 100 each way and 2-300 in av-gas, last year 70 each way, about the same cost for the boat. It sucks, but boating is not cheap.

Thanks to most of you. The rest, not so much lol.

Its a 40 gallon tank in my truck, so it’s $260 to fill it, and i can’t make it to Havasu on one tank. We usually fill up outside Barstow and get bent over. Then another half tank running around town in the dually, and the repeat on the way home.

I’ve got a Topcat 1, with a 525 and we always go the the Springs for lunch and float in a nearby cove. Then to Topock on another day. I don’t drink when I’m boating so I get irritated sitting in the Channel and watching the idiots get drunk and drive away in their boats. I’ve seen too many bad things happen because of alcohol.

Maybe fuel prices will come down in the next couple months. Yea right.

ZIP 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️
I have a friend up high in the gas distribution business ….. 7 years ago or so his company was delivering gas to every station in Havasu EXCEPT ZIP… he had no idea where they got their fuel… two times I got shit Gas from ZIP.. never again.

I’ll have to check with him and see if things have changed.

We store our boat about a quarter mile down the road. It was $5.05 last Friday. I filled my 48 gallon F350 up so much at Thaylpo that I could see diesel about six inches from the gas cap. When I stopped and waited... it didn't go down at all. Got home to Corona with 612 miles to E.

This is how I do it. I only buy CA diesel if I have to. Usually fill up before we come home. It leaves about 15ish gallons for driving around home until the next trip. Then 15+ for driving back out. I even used some Thalypo fuel for a Mammoth trip this year. I definitely like the Thalypo Indian's fuel prices better than the Bishop Indian's Casino fuel prices.

I always filled up our diesel truck at ZIP and never had any issues.

This year, I was talking to my boat mechanic and he strongly advised against ZIP. He says when he changes fuel filters, he pours out the contents into a beaker and the ZIP fuel looks different.

Not sure how long Zip has been there. But, it seems I've been fueling there occasionally for about 15 years, various Suburbans, no boats. I've never noticed a problem. But, I've always heard the rumors. Seems like if their fuel was actually that sketchy, they would have been out of business years ago.

I miss fueling at Sand Point. It was on the water, seldom crowded, reasonably priced and always 91 octane.

I’m 279 miles door to door it’s usually 19/20 gallons depending how fast I drive on the 10, this is not towing.

i wouldn’t skip a trip, just dont eat out and save a few extra bucks before and after the trip. 3 meals eating out will cover the fuel increase from last year!

Wife and I typically don’t look at fuel prices! We just just like to bitch about em And fill up at our regular spots !!
